Blue Ridge Mountains and Dogwood piece by Shane Varner

I've gotten four tattoos (all from Shane) and four piercings from Earth's Edge and all healed beautifully. Both the artist and the piercer that I've worked with here have both been very patient and straightforward. With their great prices, great service, and great quality, I will always recommend Earth's Edge to my friends in town when they're looking for a shop to visit

    Crooked piercing

Please don't go here for piercings. My septum was done very badly and so crooked. I don't understand how it was messed up this bad but that definitely isn't from "swelling" like he told me. Also didn't get a count down which was not great at all. Just stay away if you're wanting a piercing.

Greg with a very happy newby.

This is the BEST tatoo shop in W-S! We come once a year for retreat and always stop here for fresh ink. Greg is the best and has done my last 5 or 6 tats. For portraits or realism go see Sara. She is PHENOMENAL!!!

This is my tattoo 3 months later.

I need to start by saying I'm not the type of person to ridicule any human being, but 3 months ago I got 5 stars tattooed on my left leg. The owner was the person who did my work. I must admit he was a very polite and easy going individual which is why I was very disappointed when 8 days later I had little white puss pockets that started to appear on the outline of the tattoo and was itching. I thought the itching was just because of the healing process. The puss pockets made me a little worried. So I went to a physician and they told me that it was an infection that came from either the tattoo artist's instruments or the ink. So I went back to show them the infected tattoo and he acknowledged that it's possible it came from negligence on his end. ( I have 7 prior tattoos, never had any problem.) So we agreed to take care of the problem. But once the doctors referred me to a dermatologist, he started singing a different tune. So I'm now going to seek legal representation. I'm very pissed off. I feel like I was not only ripped off For 200$ I have now spent almost 800$ in hospital and dermatologist bills. So I regret ever stepping inside the doors of this tattoo parlor. I only wanted the little stars to cover up a scar I had that made me a little self conscious being a woman. Instead now I have bigger scars that will show on me for life and no one wants to take responsibility. So please, please, be very careful and aware of "the what ifs " . I never would have thought going to such a reputable establishment, that I would ever be sharing this horror story with you guys. 3 months later I'm still really scarred and itching uncontrollable.

Friendly, clean, reputable shop. I recommended Earth's Edge to anyone looking for a tattoo or piercing.

Wife had work done. The ink faded not worth the price. Plenty of other choices in the area. A tattoo shouldn't not fade. Go somewhere else

I wanted to get a tattoo to commemorate the one year anniversary of my stage 3b rectal cancer…read morediagnosis. I emailed this studio via their website, and explained my vision for what I wanted with my tattoo. I wanted a blue ribbon, with the words "Rectal Cancer Survivor" around it. I said I was willing to have the artist come up with a rendition of what I was describing. They told me they had booked me an appointment for the day I specified, with a certain artist. The day of the appointment came, and I headed in. When I got there and told them I had an appointment with that artist, they told me he wasn't in that day. They said they had another artist available, so I agreed to see him. Of course, he had no clue what design I had talked about in my previous email conversations. I described it to him, and he went off to create a design. After a little tweaking, I agreed to the design he had come up with. As he was about to put the stencil on my arm, he asked me if I was sure I wanted "that word" tattooed on me. I said yes. He put the stencil on, then asked me again. I again, said yes. He asked me a third time right as he had the tattoo machine poised over my skin. For a third time, I said yes. I don't think he would have asked me that question so many times if I had been a breast cancer survivor. My cancer happened to grow in my rectum, I can't help that, I didn't choose it. It is a body part, like any other. One of the reasons I wanted the tattoo was to help normalize the word rectum, and start conversations about colorectal cancer. It was like he was trying to make me feel dirty for having "that word" tattooed on my body where people could see it. For what it is worth, I like my tattoo. And it really has started conversations about colorectal cancer.

My friend and I went to Tattoo Therapy today around 1pm inquiring about walk in availability. We were told there was only one artist working today but that she could fit us in. There was one person ahead of us, who was getting an extremely simple tattoo and somehow we still waited for over an hour. No big deal, it happens. When we did end up going to the back there were immediate red flags but we chose to give the artist the benefit of the doubt, my friend's tattoo was finished after about an hour and looked decent, I however, can not say the same for mine. I sat in the chair for upwards of two hours for a less than sub par tattoo, the artist clearly knew she had effed up and spent most of this time trying to fix and cover up very obvious errors. All of the lines are shaky, they are also uneven in width, and in some places the stencil was very clearly not even being followed. Upon leaving the shop, I was not even close to happy with the work I had just gotten done, but was not initially planning on leaving any type of review. That is, until I found the artist on instagram and found out she is an apprentice and has only been officially licensed for about four months, information that was not disclosed to us whatsoever, she mentioned towards the end of the session that she had only been tattooing for a little less than a year, but at that point, clearly, since it was nearing the end, it was too late to do anything with that information. She also continually repeated that it would be ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY for me to come back in for a touch up... If you are having to assume that immediately upon healing your work will need any type of alteration, then something isn't right.Honestly I am most disappointed with the fact that we were extremely (and seemingly intentionally) mislead, as someone who has participated in a tattoo apprenticeship before this entire situation was completely unprofessional and unacceptable. Had we been properly informed of the skill level and experience of the artist to begin with, we would have had the opportunity to make our own decision based on the information provided. Everyone involved should have been straightforward about the fact that the piece I asked for was not something that was part of the artist's skill set, and probably wouldn't turn out the way I wanted. Customer satisfaction is clearly not the main priority of this business if this behavior is deemed acceptable. If you do still insist on getting a tattoo from here, do NOT get it from Charity. She is an apprentice but that information is NOT disclosed to you. Her line work is not acceptable at all. She is very inconsistent and cannot follow a simple stencil. I understand that the art of tattooing is difficult, but there is no reason she should even be allowed to tattoo on real human skin at this point in her learning process, especially without properly informing clients of her level of skill and experience. It is beyond reckless for the owners to allow this (below) subpar work in their place of business, especially at the price point of an experienced professional. I will allow grace for her still being an apprentice, but good God. For something that is permanently etched into your skin, you would think the owners would have enough care and concern to put someone on the floor who is equipped for the task. This isn't a hobby you can just pick up one day, you can't afford to make mistakes on a PERMANENT tattoo. I am extremely upset and disappointed, and honestly am unsure if this tattoo can even be salvaged by someone more experienced, I am upset that I wasted my time and money, but most of all that I will have to look at this tattoo on my body for the rest of my life.
