Look for the blue tarp with the 8 seats around a plastic folding table. The blue tarp is the give away when looking for it. It's run by Hawaiians, so you know the food is ONO (delicious). LUAU SQUID - My absolute favorite is the luau squid! It's made with fresh taro leafs stewed for along time with coconut milk and cut octopus. BOMBSHADIGGIDY ONOLICOUS!!! It taste just like the old days where grandma used to use the freshest ingredients to make the family favorites during dinner. A great portion (2 cups) served hot and steaming. You can get this with either poi or rice (get the poi!!!). $7.50 for the combination. Grade: A+ PORK LAULAU - super authentic laulau (taro leafs) steamed with fatty pork, salted fish. Wrapped in taro leafs and steamed for hours. Everything melts together because of the steaming. (Side order $4.00). Eat this with the poi and you have an authentic meal and tons of memories to talk about! Super ONO!. Grade: A! KULOLO - a dessert made of freshly grated taro root, coconut milk, and shreaded coconut. The consistency comes out like a sticky pudding / mochi. Not many places can make this old-time dish anymore. Found it here at the Ono Hawaiian Food Truck and glad I ordered it. From what I have read, they are located in Mapunapuna by CPB for the lunch crowd and they later go to Ahuimanu side for the late afternoon/after school/work crowd. They sell basically two things: burgers (and variations of burgers) and fries. The prices are reasonable, the food ono. No complaints here. (See my pics for descriptions) I have heard on Fridays they offer other stuff too like Saimin. You can ask them about that when you call in your order. When I have to make a run to Hardware Hawaii or Fisher Hawaii I will sometimes try to time so I can get my burger fix from Munchies. Give them a try when in the area- you won't be disappointed.

The basic breakfast of rice, eggs, & meat can be customized with: crispy meat, extra rice, extra egg, extra meat, even double breakfast! My order was pretty easy after hearing that their corned beef hash is homemade - breakfast with corned beef hash and add cripsy bacon ($15). Soon after my order was ready, piping hot, and heavy! There wasn't really any place to sit down and eat, so I went back to my car. The wonderful smell of fresh eggs & bacon filled my small car! Wednesday, had the internet fixed in the morning, picked up my cousin at 10:30 and she gave me directions to Ige's because all this time, I didn't know they were still in business. Oops. Ige's is located in the Waimalu area behind Goodwill on Kam Hwy. There's several small businesses back there and all these driveways, you can miss this place easily. On the main driveway, there's a bike path that crosses it, and an old guard shack. After this, you want to take the second driveway on the left. You know you're going down the right path when you see Guieb restaurant on the left, which I also didn't know was here. And drive all the way to the end. Ige's is the very last store on the left. You'll see the lunch line. They are only open for lunch from Tuesdays to Fridays from 9:30 am - 1 pm, so you should plan ahead. The regular menu differs each day and for now, the daily specials have remained unchanged. But to make sure, check out their IG @igesaiea. When you get there, they do have some grab and goes that are not advertised. As far as pricing, they are pretty reasonable, regular plates are between $13 - $16. However, the portions, let's say it's really heavy. My cousin got a mixed plate of chicken hekka and pork teriyaki. And I got the baked spaghetti, no rice, with toss and Mac salad. And the spaghetti filled half the plate with a good amount of height. Ige's is counter only, a hole-in-the-wall restaurant. Therefore there are no seats. I asked my cousin if she wanted to grab a table at Neal Blaisdell park down the street and she quickly declined. So we drove back to her house for lunch. My cousin did enjoy her chicken hekka and pork. I'm didn't get to taste it because I was too involved with my meal. At first glance, it wasn't the brick, lasagna-style like school where there was a thick layer of cheese on top. However, without the cheese, it was still tasted the same from what I could remember. Because the portion is heavy, my cousin could only eat a fourth of her lunch while I thought I better tap out at 1/3. So she didn't need to make dinner for her family while I had dinner and lunch for the next day. Although the interaction was short, the counter person was pleasant and very helpful. As you look into the kitchen, you can see a lot of people hustling back there as they also do catering. I'll be away for two weeks but I am looking forward to picking up lunch when I get back and I am definitely brining family here, I just need to figure out a good place for a picnic.
