Alas, that I have to post this update: after a couple of weeks, my luggage organizer "mobile…read morecloset" thingy was returned -- and they failed to reattach the cinch strap, which was the whole reason I went to them! (Instead, they left the strap hanging from its other attachment point, dangling uselessly, and *closed* the hole it left when the strap tore out of the stitches.) So I wrote a nice note and shipped it back. And the postal service promptly lost the box, utterly beyond reclaiming. So I ended up paying for a new set of luggage after all, which I'd been trying to avoid in the first place. I called the shop, and the woman who answered told me she'd talk to her supervisor about a refund and call me back; she never called me back. Sigh. Not the small local business experience I had hoped for. :/

This family owned shoe repair shop in Broad Ripple also has a shop in Carmel. The lady that works…read morein the store is so kind and friendly and even reminds you to come pick up your shoes. I had a pair of boots that were in pretty good shape, except the heels were falling off and when I came and picked them up, I was so impressed. I decided I needed to do a review. What's exciting about this places they not only take care of your shoes, but they have shoe strings in every color as well as wax. Now I know not everybody needs all these colors, but working in the furniture repair business and in the art world waxes in many colors is a treat. I love the family pictures going all the way back in time as well as the pictures of the employees that have been there forever as well. You can't go wrong walking into this place. It's like a step back in time where you feel treated very well and get to experience a little history while you're in there. I highly recommend stopping by as they even have cool shoes for sale!

If I could give this place one star I would. My husband didn't realize when he took his shoes for…read morerepair that this was the same place I had dropped a pair of his Fry boots off when they were in there old location. They RUINED those boots and the shoes he dropped off for repair. When he called to explain that the shoes were ruined, the woman who answered she was extremely rude. He explained that this was the second pair that they had ruined and she very rudely said 'ooohhh, well we'll just put you on the do not accept list' and then hung up. Didn't offer to refund or reimburse. As if we would ever bring another pair of shoes here. Buyer BEWARE! This store has no respect for their customers or the job that they perform. I've been going to Hakky's for years and don't let the 1-2 star reviews sway your decision to use…read morethem. Most of those reviews are from costumers with the typical "expectation versus reality" mentality. Birkenstock customers are typically the worst of the bunch. Your Birks, like ALL shoes, have a life expectancy. Don't blame Hakky for not being able to bring your sandals back from the dead. If you're asking to have the sole replaced, you're likely better off buying a new pair. If your cork is damaged, it's DEFINITELY time to buy a new pair. Yes, the father is better than the son, but the skill of the father has been learned over DECADES of experience. If you're giving them poor reviews because of this, then you're the reason shoe repair is going the way of the dodo and should be ashamed! Show some grace, it's called a learning curve, and bring a cobbler is an art form that's being lost thanks to consumerism. And yes, I'm guilty as well.

After calling the seamstress at another location he told me they could be ready on Tuesday. I was tickled she could get them back so soon. I was however shocked at the price of $20 a panel and I had 4 panels. Normally, I'd call around for pricing but as I said time was an issue. I arrived Tuesday afternoon and the drapes were the proper length, beautifully hemmed and pressed. I was grateful the seamstress could work within my timeline.
