The way the exit is set up makes it difficult to punch in your code and then make it out of the gate quickly. It's set up where you have to punch in the code, make a sharp right turn, then a sharp left turn to get out, and the whole time you're trying not to hit anything. So we punched in the code, the gate arm went up, we started driving out, and then all the sudden the arm came down onto the hood of my truck. It actually hit my truck. We backed up. Within 10 seconds a guy came rushing out yelling at me, saying we hit the gate. I couldn't believe he was saying "WE" hit the gate. Their gate closed onto my vehicle, not the other way around. Then a lady (apparently the manager) came out and we went around and around as to who was at fault. They were pushing extremely hard on me to accept that we were at fault. It felt strange, but I didn't realize what they were doing. They said we would have to pay them $100; however, not only was it not our fault, there was no damage to their gate. They also said they may contact their corporate office and that they take these things very serious. I made it very clear that I wasn't going to pay them anything and that we did nothing wrong. Then all of the sudden their behavior towards me completely changed. They were shaking my hand, smiling, joking, and offered us water and candy. The lady even complimented my muscles out of the blue, which is just not something normal people do. It all felt odd. What they were doing still didn't register in my mind (I'm too trusting and naive I guess). However, later I realized that they were trying to extort money out of me by using psychological tactics to pressure me. The problem is that I can't prove this, but I am absolutely certain that this is what they were doing. Also, they had this routine down (it was actually impressive) like they have done this to other people before. I'm not a lawyer, but according to Google, extortion of $100 in Texas carries a fine of up to $2000 and 180 days in jail. Also, I have a disability, so that's an aggravating factor that bumps it up to a Class A misdemeanor, which carries a fine up to $4000 and a year in jail. I doubt anyone will ever be able to prove their intent behind what they are doing, but I wholeheartedly believe they knew exactly what they were doing and it's wrong. Very wrong. I know it can be hard to get by financially sometimes, but we can't resort to trying to exploit each other. It's really despicable. I strongly recommend people avoid this place.

Clean, air-conditioned unit [ check ] Is there anything else you need in a storage unit? Nope. MORE EXPLANATION: After moving, we realized we had too much stuff and needed a 10x5 storage unit. We did a quick deposit and claim online. It took minutes! Then, an email was sent to us with all the info needed to access the unit. Happy with how everything was panning out, we rolled over. However, when we got there, the unit was a bit of a surprise. It was a 10x5 unit but with a small door (not the most ideal for moving items in and out). I noticed there was other units available with bigger doors, so I thought... "Let's just ask if we can move units!" My husband was weary of this, but I advised him... "It's worth a shot! The worst they can do is say no. Let's go find someone!" When we got to the front desk, Jacob was there ready to help! He said, "That's not a problem! Let's fix this." In minutes, we were touring new units, transferring our lease and starting to move everything in. This would not have been possible without Jacob's professionalism, diligence and kindness. We are so grateful for his help! Extra thank you to Extra Space Storage for still having humans on site. It really makes a difference to consumers who need service.

We signed on the spot. Needing the use of their truck, we set a day/time to pick it up. We hired someone to do the actual moving, and he showed up at the appointed time. No one was there and the office remained locked up...most all day. We lost between 3-4 hours while we came up with plan B, which involved renting a U-Haul truck. The assistant manager called today to ask if we still needed the truck. Uh, no. She offered no reason why she was not on duty when she should have been. Nor did she offer to reimburse the price of the truck we had to rent because of their mistake. As I said earlier, their facilities are top notch, and ease of use is excellent. However, going forward, we will remain wary of their customer service promises. As a new customer, we are really not impressed.

The elevator closest to my units was out for months causing me to pay more for two moves from one house to another because of the additional time it took the movers. And the moves were 6 weeks apart and the elevator was down for months! Both entry and exit doors have been out of service for months now and the only way to move anything out is through the office and out into the parking lot. A huge time sucker!
