Plumbing isn't cheap, but the bill was in line with other plumbing work I'd recently had done. One thing to note for potential customers is the plumber didn't have the option for me to pay by credit card - analog payments only. Just FYI.

My contractor had tried for several hours, but couldn't really unblock it so he suggested calling a "professional". After spending over than $400 more, I guess the outcome is that although water appears to drain, they couldn't unblock it, couldn't get to the street, and that quite possibly water will continue to collect and flood the basement. It might be an adequate charge for what they do, and that the condition of the pipe is bad, but when I had another company try to unblock lines at a different location, they were able to clearly explain what they found (tree roots in the line) and what they'd suggest to really fix the problem and provide an estimate. Therefore, I'd say if I paid a lot of money and it couldn't be fixed, at least I could have expected some good information and direction to solve the problem. This I didn't receive. They were very nice and prompt, though.

We did not know him and found him through reviews online. We selected Don from the other bids because he was straightforward and told us up-front the potential issue areas. He had experience with old homes. He was able to tell which pipes went where without being able to see where they terminated. Whereas, the other bidders needed scopes to confirm. He cared about his work, and liked interesting projects that challenged him, such as our unconventional old house. DHP removed the entire old system, redesigned and installed all new systems. To work with the existing structure, they troubleshot through what the plans did not cover. We did not find that DHP overcharged, made excuses or gave us the bad advice. He explained his work, or told us when he didn't know something and had to research it first. One time, when his guys made a mistake, he recognized it and worked on a Sunday to redo the work. Their work is top quality and conduct professional. Meaning that, they saw us beyond project end, even after receiving the last payment, to provide service and answer questions. When our GC abandoned our remodel for his next project, Don worked directly with us to get the project done- whether that meant picking out a shower head or helping us find a tile contractor. DHP turned our one bath/ one kitchen fixer into a modern home with four baths, two full kitchens, outdoor water supply and two backup sump pump systems. Remodels are daunting, full of unwelcome surprises. We are glad to have come across Don Halcom Plumbing. We wish we hired him to GC the whole project.

We recently replaced our well-pump of 37 years and a couple of the faucets, commode and shower were had little to no pressure. So, being the "handy" (hah!) person that I thought I was, I tried to DIY install my own new faucet (by removing the old one). Upon trying to turn off the cold water supply, it started leaking... Well, that wasn't in anything I've seen before. Panicking, I started a "project" on Yelp. Among the quotes I received, Chaz (the owner) was super responsive on a Friday evening. I was able to book a next-day morning visit within budget (paid halfway between the quoted range - which was awesome! Chaz happened to live in nearby white center so I (over in Alaska junction) could get on the schedule on a Saturday! Chaz arrived at the quoted time and was respectful of the space (had his own boot covers), gear, asked to borrow things when needed, like rags / a pail to catch the water). Throughout the visit, I had transparency into pricing (quoted range), what Chaz was working on, and he answered all of my incessant questions about random things that could go wrong. He brought all of his own tools. I'm grateful I called Chaz - he was in and out within an hour - and I was able to go on with my day, and a new faucet!

He came to excavate our outflow problem--something a previous plumbing firm had done a mediocre job on 25 years, now we're paying the price--explained and showed everything that needed to be fixed (some of it was obvious to a non-plumbing eye), showed us camera footage, and explained all the plumbing mysteries we'd had in the last few years that were getting worse. He quote us a price, folded in his Saturday work into it, worked diligently to get us back in working order, and was neat and tidy about some very messy outdoor work. He even hauled off some old pipes the previous plumbers had buried instead of taking to the trash! Chaz is a great communicator, and he's absolutely dedicated to making sure we know what we are getting into and what it will cost. I left my cell number each time. No call back. I called my insurance to ask about contact and was informed that they were showing up on a date I had no idea about . No messages to me no contact , they picked a date and planned on just showing up. I waited until late morning ; I left for 30 mins in afternoon and guess what? They show unannounced , no call first, nothing. I have 2 other people there 18 and up but they left without confirming leaving the message behind that someone had to be 18 for them to enter and "call back and reschedule. ". I was literally back home within 10 mins. before they left Obviously they don't need any business and are inept at running a business. What a joke. I called back and yep, left a message again, saying don't bother coming back.
