Lastly, when we were leaving, someone was mopping the walkway and left puddles of water in the walk, which posed a slip hazard for our group of elderly individuals. I ordered their vegetarian burger, El Bandito, and was disappointed to find that the veggie patty was incredibly dry unlike my experience in California. While I really like the avocado slices and basil pesto sauce, the combination of the dry patty and buns left something to be desired. The truffle fries were not undercooked this time, but they were over-seasoned with salt so we could only finish half of the portion. My lunch date ordered the El Diabo and said it was good but very spicy. The staff was friendly and helpful with clearing the tables which was nice but other than that, I think I'll leave this location out of my restaurant rotation list.

I quickly searched on Google and found several options. Messina Hof grabbed my attention. First, it's out in the country, not in the busy Houston region. Second, it has food to pair with wine. Third, I love driving to Richmond Texas. I thought this city has a lot of charms. So, I made a reservation online. While that was not a requirement, but I would like to be reminded. We arrived at the restaurant late because I under estimated the traffic from Southwest Houston. My reservation was moved with my request, nice. The parking lot is huge and wheelchair accessible spots are on both sides of the entrance. We were one of 2 parties at 2 o'clock in the afternoon. The wait staff was very cordial. She introduced us the wine tasting menu: White Wine, Red Wine, Mixed Wines, Premium, Library and Sweet Wines. My friend likes to try their sweet collection, $28. I don't drink. So, I just looked at him enjoying the wines. It started with something weak to something strong like a Port and ended with something delicious that he really liked. Each pour is 3 oz, except 1 oz of port due to high alcohol content. We bought a bottle of Orange Muscat Mistella, $25. I don't think we can find this elsewhere for this price. For people like me who don't drink, I asked for a glass of sparkling red grape juice. We also paired our drinks with a wood-fired pizza and I ordered a Burrata Salad. They are quite delightful. I was surprised as the wines are travelled from Bryan/College Station and Fredericksburg of Texas. Umm... So, this huge facility doesn't produce wines. Although, there is a grapevines out on the front. As we've been told that those grape trees will produce grapes next year. The only winery tour is at those 2 locations. There is nothing to see here. We have been members of there wine club but I will be cancelling my membership and our son had his wedding reception there 3 years ago and they were in town and decided they wanted to go there for dinner and purchase several bottles of wine to take home we were so embarrassed they have lost my business forever. It is incredibly disappointing to have such a negative experience at a restaurant that we have supported and enjoyed for years. The difference from what this restaurant used to be was noticeable from the second we walked in. For a Saturday night, the place was practically empty, which immediately seemed strange. We went out to the patio and there was absolutely no atmosphere. None of the TVs were on, there was no music playing, no live music, nothing. When we asked about the music, we were told that the speakers "haven't worked for a long time now." For a restaurant that has always been known for its lively atmosphere and Saturday night music, that was pretty shocking to hear. Then came the menus. We waited quite a while just to get menus, only to find out that apparently they didn't even have enough menus for the customers who were there , despite the restaurant being nearly empty. When we finally received one, our table of FOUR PEOPLE was asked to share ONE MENU between all of us. I honestly couldn't believe it. It was awkward and embarrassing for everyone sitting at the table to have to pass one menu around just so four adults could figure out what they wanted to order. I also asked multiple times for a drink menu and never received one. Then, after finally getting to look at the food menu, we started trying to order and were told that a huge portion of the items listed were no longer available. At that point, I finally asked what was happening because the decline in literally every aspect of this restaurant was impossible not to notice. We were simply told: new owners and new management. Unfortunately, that explained a lot. It is genuinely sad to see what has happened to a place we used to really enjoy. This isn't a review from someone who came here once and simply didn't like it... we've been here many times before, which is exactly why the difference was so shocking. The atmosphere, organization, menu availability and overall experience have declined dramatically. No live music on a Saturday. No music at all. TVs off. Speakers apparently broken for a long time. Not enough menus for an almost empty restaurant. Four people being asked to share a single menu. No drink menu despite repeatedly asking for one. And then finally discovering that a large portion of the food menu isn't even available. This doesn't feel like the same restaurant anymore. I sincerely hope the new ownership and management turn things around quickly because, based on what we experienced tonight, I genuinely worry that this place won't be around much longer if things continue this way. We came here expecting a fun Saturday night date at a restaurant we already knew and liked, and instead had one of the worst and most disappointing dining experiences we've had in years. It's honestly just sad to see a place we enjoyed going downhill this quickly.
