Our beloved family pups

Been there for years, after 2 weeks of nobody answering the phone, no call backs and unable to schedule with their "online app" I drive there to see if they are actually open... to be told I'm the only person this has happened to, maybe I have the wrong number, their answering service "doesn't take messages"... And clearly they have enough business they don't need mine. I was treated horribly and reacted in kind which was wrong. I apologized to the front desk while the "hospital manager" threatened me with various sanctions. Not the Doc (Katie) that has treated our dogs-she's amazing. Too bad we won't see her again at that clinic

River City Veterinary Hospital - Our happy golden retriever Luke playing with his friends

Our sweet boy Luke our beloved golden retriever recently passed away after twelve years of a very…read morefull life. He grew up going to River City for his health care and was a regular at doggie day care. This was his favorite place on earth. The care and love received from these people was extraordinary. He was so comfortable with this place and its wonderful people that when he had to see Dr. Harsh for medical care, he was unafraid and loved him too with big lick to the face. The attached picture was hung in the lobby of River City of our sweet boy and you can see how happy he was playing with his friends. There is no better better place in town to take your animal for care or day care! When I think of the great memories we had with our dog, this place is part of those very fond memories. Thank you Dr. Harsh and River City Veterinary Hospital and Day Care for being so loving and taking such good care of our very good boy Luke.

Instead, River City Vet turned us away…read more During Blue's yearly checkup I mentioned that there had been some respiratory/sneezing issues for several months but this was of no concern to them. We were told he was healthy. He wasn't. I brought Blue in for a weight check 3-4 weeks after his checkup. He had lost nearly a pound in that time. He wouldn't eat. His behavior had changed. No one followed up on my concerns. I called River City Vet a few days after the weight check because Blue was lethargic and wouldn't eat or drink. We were told they didn't have time for us. I took Blue in to West Vet for IV fluids every day for 3 days. My husband was out of the country and made an emergency flight home from Japan while we struggled to keep Blue alive so he could say goodbye to his favorite human. Blue died in our arms on Easter Sunday, a few hours after my husband got home. He was only 6 years old.

We had been taking our 73 lb pit/dane/lab mix, Nicky, here ever since we moved to Boise two years…read moreago. Dr Stoenner and the entire staff have always greeted us & Nicky with professional and kind attention. They helped find and/or supply her with special need diet products and medications she needed after a very active 13 years. The facility is linked to a great online product shipping associate that delivered Nicky's food & meds to our door. We received timely notifications for her shots & always received quick appointments. In November, 2017, Nicky was diagnosed with a malignant tumor on her spleen and, on Nov 31, had surgery to remove the tumor & given medication for recovery & medication for some petite seizures she'd been having. The tumor had bled into her abdomen, making the chances of the cancer moving to other organs a probable prognosis. She was given 6 - 9 months to live. 2 1/2 months later, on Jan 13, 2018, following weeks of her strength & appetite diminishing and her breathing becoming shallow, we brought her in on that Saturday. Although Dr Stoenner had the day off, Dr Lisa Christensen examined Nicky physically and, with the help of an ultrasound, determined that she had a massive amount of blood in her abdomen & around her heart. This accounted for her rapid breathing (panting) and occasional coughing/gaging and, of course, her lack of energy (her gums were very light pink to white). After providing an option that I won't get into here, but intimating (not pushing) that euthanasia might be the best for Nicky, my wife & I came to the very painful decision to save Nicky any more pain & discomfort and say goodbye to our beloved family member of 15 years. We were left alone with Nicky while we came to our decision and for the rest of procedure Nicky, my wife, & I were treated with respect, dignity, sympathy, & a very caring demeanor by the two techs who prepped Nicky and Dr Christensen. Lisa explained everything that would happen, and gently talked us through what she was doing every step of the way. She had earlier placed a pad under Nicky and made certain that she was in a comfortable position. We laid down with Nicky while Lisa injected a medication to put Nicky to sleep. She did this very slowly so it wouldn't alarm Nicky. After Nicky was asleep, Lisa injected the medication that would stop her heart. After Lisa confirmed that Nicky had passed, she left us alone. It was a tearful process made a bit easier by having someone there who obviously cared about our feelings & Nicky's comfort. When we walked back into the reception area, we were greeted with condolences and a candle had been lit at a sign that reads something like "When this candle is lit, there is a family saying farewell to their pet. Please quietly conduct your business". We received a phone call to pick up Nicky's ashes within 24 hours and, in the mail, received a sympathy card with signatures & condolences by the doctors & entire staff. When we're are eventually able to adopt another shelter dog, we will definitely bring him or her to All Pet Complex.

I had the good fortune of seeing McKenzie and Alyssa today in the ER. My Brittany named Charlie…read moredeveloped tremors and was unable to jump up, and she became lethargic. Turns out I had given her two walnuts yesterday with some powdery black portions. I am so ignorant that I did not realize that moldy walnuts are EXTREMELY toxic to dogs. The mold produces "tremorgenic mycotoxin" which is a powerful neurotoxin even in small quantities. It affects the cerebellum, hence the tremors and unsteadiness. By the time I had brought her to the ER, thank goodness she was alert, social and wagging her tail. Tremors mostly gone. Vital signs were great. They felt it wasn't necessary to give charcoal or induce vomiting. They let me take her home for close watching. NO CHARGE!! The team was super helpful, efficient and compassionate. If there is a better Vet ER, I do not know of it. Thank you guys so much!

Also, the front desk has no empathy for anyone's situation or what we're going through. They are just throwing facts, paperwork and potential timelines (which are always way off). On our most recent visit, my dog was struggling to swallow, but there were other dogs that were prioritized due to severity, which I understand, but we waited until after midnight, and still didn't get the care we needed. We eventually just left, and saw urgent care the next morning, so my dog had to suffer through the night. I will say the vet tech we had on this last visit was very kind (why I gave an extra star), and at least gave my pup some attention, but after she left, she never came back to check on my dog for over two hours!!! I didn't know if they had just forgotten that we were there, or just didn't care. I do not recommend this pet hospital, and I will not be going there again, for any reason. There are better pet hospitals in the area, which I will go to instead.

Years ago, Kelly used to be a groomer here. He's fantastic. My yorkie at the time, Frankie,…read morebasically had little to no hair. It was adorable. Kelly always did an amazing job on him. I know, how hard can a hairless dog be to groom? Well, to make it look less like he was hairless and more like it was just a groom...I guess for me it would be tricky lol. To them, it's easy, haha! Anyway, Kelly opened his new place in Star and Frankie and I continued to go there until Frankie's passing last year. Spoiled Dog is literally like 5-7 mins from my house. Frankie's old spot is more than 20 and probably even more now that the amount of traffic has increased dramatically in just the past year. It's sad. I wanted to take my new little guy, Alfie to Kelly, but I decided to return to Spoiled Dog. Either choice would have been good, but I 1000% have lucked out with another great groomer that works at Spoiled Dog. His name is, Jordan. Kelly even spoke very highly of Jordan, so I knew Alfie was in good hands. There are mixed reviews about Spoiled Dog on here and Google. My reviews I always try to be as straightforward as possible. If something is shit, I have absolutely NO problems writing about it. I am not however, someone who will like Karen out for a min and write a bad review for something so minor. Something people do too often with online reviews. I've noticed the bad reviews are mainly about another person at this place. That's whatever. Jordan is Alfie's groomer and again, I've lucked out because he's incredible on so many levels. Jordan is one of the nicest people you'll ever meet, for starters. He is so sweet with Alfie. Alfie immediately LOVED him and I was kind of surprised by that. Alfie isn't even a year yet, so he gets a little freaked out around new people/places etc. I took him to Jordan the first time just to get his nails trimmed. Alfie basically cuddled right in his arms and let him do it. I think Alfie would scream bloody fn murder if I tried or he would think I was playing with him lol. You should see us when I'm brushing him. GOOD. LORD. Hahahaha! Jordan on top of being excellent with Alfie, is an excellent groomer. This last groom, Nov 9th, he did exactly what I wanted and then some. I know some of us can be a pain in the ass when describing what we want done, I even apologized just in case I was being "that guy" haha! Jordan was so sweet about it. So friendly. Working any job in dealing with the public is extremely challenging. I can't even imagine what it must be like for a groomer lol...especially people who are real nasty. I guess to some degree because grooming is not cheap, people are ok to know what they want. It's not ok to be a massive dick tho especially to someone who is working on our kids :) That was quite the ramble huh? Haha! I'm so glad I found Jordan. It was meant to be. Alfie loves him, I love him hahaha, I absolutely love his skills and his abilities to connect with the animals. He is truly an outstanding talent. Yeah fuck you're planning on trying this place out, seek out Jordan. You won't be disappointed. The place is super clean, spacious. They have kennels, boarding whatnot. I mean, it's a doggy spa haha! I won't ramble too much more. Yelp will cut me off and then I'll turn into a super Karen on my side of the screen haha! Spoiled Dog is a wonderful spot and that's because of Jordan. I'm glad I decided to go back here. It's about $50 for his groom. Is that pricey? To me, yes lol. With all the people moving here tho, I'm sure that's one of the reasons the prices went up. It's also pricey (imo) for a 5lb yorkie, but the important thing is...he's a great groomer, knows his shit, and is excellent with Alfie. It's very hard to find a good groomer who REALLY enjoys his job. Jordan is just that. You can see immediately in his finished product that he loves what he does and just watching him interact with the dogs...again, you can see he loves his line of work. I imagine it's very rewarding. Ok, I better stop. Thanks for reading, Yelpittererees!! Cheers!
