I went to e-z mart to fill my own cup. The employee said she'd have to charge me for the ice. I wrote an e-mail to the company and a man called me about the e-mail. He said they are charging for ice now. I asked if it was an ice maker, and he replied yes. The ice maker will continue to run whether the ice is being used or not.
No longer will I frequent any e-z mart. Common sense should tell them consumers typically purchase something when they go in to get ice.
What's next, a charge for the restroom to cover toilet paper and water usage?
