From day one the staff welcomed my dad & gave him lots of extra attention as he made the transition. He is about to complete 8 full months of assisted living & he is thriving, stronger and happier than the day he moved in. The staff @ Cogir really go above and beyond. I was panicking because I had no one to take her place. I had contacted several agencies in the past but I remembered Nikki Lopez at Caring Haven as being the most compassionate and sincere. I called her hoping she could send a temporary last minute replacement but all of her people were booked so she offered to personally fill in until my mother's caregiver returned. She arrived at my mother's aware of her exposure to Covid and knowing she would be sleeping in my mother's room. Nikki's own family gave their blessing because they knew my mother needed help. The day Nikki got there, my mother had to go to ER for dehydration and while there, she tested positive for Covid. The hospital sent her home because she had no fever or cough but two days later, she was admitted into the hospital for symptoms of Covid, dehydration and pneumonia. Nikki was prepared to, and wanted stay in the hospital room with my mother but Covid hospital regulations would not allow it. She visited my mother twice a day until the regular caregiver was able to return to work. Nikki continued to follow up on my mother after my mother returned home and still checks up on her regularly. Because of this, I am hiring one of Nikki's caregivers when my mother's regular caregiver retires in March. I am so impressed by Nikki and the level of care at Caring Haven, I would never go anywhere else again!

This position was left either unfilled or not filled with the correct type of staff. My mom has lost her want and staff does little to help reengage and affectively know how to coax her out of her room where she's left to talk to herself because it's easier. I'm so saddened. I know dementia is a progressive disease however she's still able to get around and hold conversation and joke. I see little effort to help reengage my mom when I'm unfortunately not able to be there as much as I wish to help reengage her. For the price of care, I'd expect more. My mom did get that the first couple years she was there. However this memory care is definitely not what it use to be or what you'd expect from a high end senior living facility.

What stood out to me right away was the ratio of caregivers to residents; 3 caregivers for about 12 residents, which creates a level of attention and care that is hard to find. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt warm and welcoming. Connie, the executive director, is attentive, kind, and truly cares. We immediately felt comfortable there. I visited frequently, about five times a week, at different times of day, and consistently experienced the same level of care. The staff was attentive, supportive, and genuinely present. I always felt at ease knowing he was in good hands. The food was also very good, which mattered a lot, as he really enjoyed his meals. I would especially like to recognize Miguel from the memory care unit. His care and presence are truly exceptional. He has a natural gift for what he does: compassionate, professional, and deeply attentive. He truly stands out because he genuinely cares, and you can feel that in the way he shows up every day. I always felt I could rely on him completely, and his support made a meaningful difference. I'm truly grateful for the care and environment provided here.

The reasons she gave were "she doesn't want to get out of bed" or "she's lazy and doesn't listen to what we tell her to do". These statements were alarming to hear regarding an 81 year old elderly woman with dementia who had known the Concord Royale a her home for a long time. These negative remarks from Director Connie also had us worried for how our loved one was being spoken to and treated. Connie also expressed anger and said many negative criticizing things because our loved one became incontinent. We found all of this strange as all of the above are typical things which happen to a person who is elderly and has beginning stages of dementia. In our conversations with Connie, she suddenly did a very odd "about face" and said if we paid $350 a month extra money, our loved one could stay at the Concord Royale. At this point, as sad as it was to have her move while she had many friends for years who she would likely miss, we thought it best to move her elsewhere. Please keep a good eye on your loved one if they are living in this place (hopefully they won't do anything typical of an elderly person that will upset Connie).

The center refused to allow my mom additional days of therapy because the nurse director "did not like me and my sick mom".

If you have ever had to go through the process of finding suitable care for a loved one then you already know what a nightmare that can be. Their are facility owners who highly exaggerate their level of care, unqualified staff and unsuitable living conditions not to mention abuse. After several disastrous and dangerous attempts at placements for my Great Aunt and Mother, God blessed our family with Genesis Care Home for The Elderly in Vallejo. My Great Aunt was in her late 90's and my Mother suffered from Vascular Dementia. We had removed them from an unsuitable care facility and moved them right into Genesis Care Home after just one meeting with Sharon, the owner. After what my Mom and Aunt had been through, I was very direct in telling Sharon what level of care we were looking for and Sharon was equally honest and forthcoming about the level of care she provided and her philosophy on the care for the elderly. Let me start with the word Compassion. No matter how disoriented, difficult or delusional my mother or aunt became, the entire staff always remained compassionate, respectful and loving. The staff came into their rooms with a smile and spent many hours just laughing and talking with them. They took the time to ask them questions about their lives and treated them like family. My Mom even gave them each nicknames. We are a very large family who would drop by all the time unannounced and always Mom and Auntie were clean, bathed and very well fed. The food that was prepared for them was spectacular....and I'm a retired Caterer! Anytime of the day, the residents can help themselves to snacks or fresh fruit. During the Holidays and their birthdays the spread they put out is unbelievable and all family members are not only welcomed but encouraged to stay and join in. Genesis actually took the time to find out what my Moms favorite foods and T.V. programs were and made sure both were provided. The staff regularly took the time to call and express their concerns over medications, behavioral changes or their general happiness and comfort so as a team, we could make whatever adjustments were necessary to make their daily lives better. Both my Aunt and Mom have passed now, but I will continue to stop by for a visit to Genesis Care Home, to visit this very special place, and this group of phenomenal ladies.
