I live down the road from this shop so I already knew it existed. A few years ago my father bought…read morea new car and handed down his BMW X3 to me. Went to the dealership (the one next town over) for a simple oil change. Within an hour I get text with a video from the dealership recommending $7000 worth of work. I of course declined and told them to just finish the oil change but when I picked up the car, you bet I drove straight to Montclair Motorwerks from there. Ken and his team took a look at the vehicle and while some of the repairs recommended by the dealership were legitimate, others weren't really needed. The honesty was refreshing. Turned out the vehicle did need some extensive work (thanks Dad). The car was ready within a few days and the price (which was still in the four figures to reflect the scope of the work done) was a fraction of what the dealership would have charged. Additionally I was very careless in leaving something extremely valuable in the vehicle. One of the technicians found it and turned it over to Frankie for safe keeping. Anybody with questionable morals could have taken it and I wouldn't have known. When I picked up the car, it was there for me and while I was of course embarrassed, I was grateful. I'm under no impression that BMWs are cheap vehicles to own and maintain. They aren't. But the high degree of trust I gained from my first encounter with Ken, Frankie an their team made Montclair Motorwerks my go-to since then.

You don't want to read a 5-paragraph review when you're looking for a mechanic. These guys are…read morehonest, fast, and priced fairly. We drove up to NJ from DC and some nuts came loose on our wheel. There was an awful wobbling sound as the wheel was absolutely loose. I checked the tire, I checked under the car, but of course I had no clue. We thought the damn car was falling apart. A mechanic that wanted to take us for a ride could have made up any story and charged us $200+ for some nonsense work. Instead, these guys told the honest truth, charged us less than $60, and had our car fixed up in 1 hour. You can't go wrong with this place!!!

If I could give zero stars, I would. This shop's negligence put my life in danger…read more I had my car towed to Park Street Automotive with clear symptoms of a critical suspension failure: a violent lurch to the left when braking, a loud rumbling, and a worsening steering wobble. They ignored these critical safety symptoms and diagnosed only a noisy exhaust. When I questioned this, they were dismissive and, after the repair, told me to "take it on the freeway for a spin and see what happens." I took it to another shop for a second opinion instead. They immediately found the real problem: the front control arm had failed and my wheel was literally about to fall off. The issue had nothing to do with the exhaust. A mechanic who fails to perform a basic safety inspection and tells you to "see what happens" with a failing front end is not someone who should ever be trusted with your vehicle or your safety.

I thought that was so nice and didn't even charge me for it. Right off the bat I knew I was gonna like this place. I've been ripped off in the past and never go into any auto shop without being extremely skeptical. I had bearing work done here on one of my front shat/tires of my Pilot and some other minor work, plus oil changes. One of the guys tooke me over to my car and really explained what the problem was and showed me the parts that were in need of replacement. Plus, I wasn't ever up-sold on anything that was unnecessary. J Q is the only place I go to first. Be sure to call ahead and make an appointment because its not surprising they are booked like all the time. For me, finding an auto shop you can actually trust is far and few between. I won't go anywhere else, if I can help it.

I have been in close proximity to Cedar Grove Transmissions for about a year now, but never had a…read morereason to visit, until recently. After taking the household car to Garden State Honda for a recall repair and to get a very loud rear right brake checked out, we were told that we would have to shell out over $1100 to get rotors and pads replaced on a 2010 Honda Civic. The dealership used a scare tactic to get us to agree to the repair by forcing us to sign a document stating if we died or suffered bodily harm driving home, it wasn't their issue. Low blow. We were sincerely upset by what we experienced at Honda, so I gave Mike at Cedar Grove Transmissions a call to discuss setting up an appointment. The stress level went from a 10 to a 3 in a matter of minutes on the phone and then in the office. Mike brought me in and we just chatted about the options, quotes, what could potentially go wrong and shoot the price up, he answered all my questions. The transparency between Mike and his clients is extremely rare to come by in any industry, let alone auto and repair. He took the car in the following night and had it done the next day despite him and his teams' packed schedule. The cost of the repair was exactly as quoted and saved us hundreds of dollars. We could not be happier with the service provided. Mike and his crew genuinely care about their customers' concerns and wallet and will do anything they can to ease what can be a pricey and painful process. I will certainly return should any car issues come up and will always refer local friends and family over to Cedar Grove Transmissions. Thank you all so very much!
