I had the team at Dynotech do a head gasket repair for my 1993 Toyota Land Cruiser. This was my fiorst time using this shop, as I have recently relocated to the Twin Cities. I had a very positive experience and chose to have them work another vintage toyota I own. I would recommend them without reservation. They were patient when I called and asked many questions about how they would approach my HG job and were happy to work with me. They have been in business for a long time and have an excellent relationship with their machine shop, which was a major concern of mine when asking a shop to do this job. They are familiar with vintage Land Cruisers, which for my specific situation was very important to me. The mechanical expertise in this garage is excellent, but their customer focused approach and communication is well beyond any competitors I contacted. I started going to dynotech because they're a certified Intoxalock location. They do the cheapest calibrations out of anywhere I've gone by far. I've been to many places over the last 2 years of needing calibrations and dynotech only charges $20 versus the typical $40-50 at other places up north and around the metro. They did the removal of my ignition interlock today and they were done in under an hour. I made the appointment, showed up on time, and they immediately pulled my car in and got the work done. The employees there are extremely friendly and professional, I've never had a negative experience with anyone at this place. Would definitely recommend it to anyone with ignition interlock. Plus they have really good coffee and snacks for people waiting on their cars which is always nice. I've received great service every time I've been here which is at least 6 times now. When I have any sort of car problems in the future, this is where I plan to keep bringing my car to. read more

They say a good, honest mechanic is worth his weight in gold. If that's the case these guys are worth a fortune. I have had my car here twice. Once for a new radiator, and once because my brakes were making an odd noise and getting hot. Both times they were very helpful and thorough in explaining the issue and by far the most reasonable when it came to the actual repair cost. On top of that, their turnover was also prompt. But what sold me without a doubt was their honesty. Let me explain. I was certain, based off a past experience years ago, I would need new calipers, brake pads and rotors thanks to waiting too long before finally taking the time to get my car in. They could have easily sold me that and I would have believed them. However, all I needed was a part to be loosened, the rust wire-brushed off and the part re-lubricated. Fifty bucks and an hour later and I was on my way. If that isn't honest, I don't know what is. Bottom line: Honest, knowledgeable, prompt and by far the most reasonable. If you need your car fixed take it to these guys. You won't be disappointed. read more

I cannot say enough good things about this shop. First of all, they are open late (so you can actually pick up your car after work) and usually on weekends. In fact, I don't think Tim actually takes vacations, which I rib him about when I drop my car off for weekend repairs. Second, he is exceedingly honest. I kept asking him to replace my timing belt but he wouldn't do it until he actually felt it loosening up, at about 120K miles. I've sent my friends there and they've all had a similar experience. We swap our funny Tim stories with each other, thanking god the whole time that we found him. If there are options (original parts vs. OEM, etc) he'll always let you know and give you a choice. He will always tell you exactly what's wrong and what needs (and doesn't need) to be done. Once in a blue moon a fix won't work (bad replacement part, or whatever) and he'll fix it, no charge, a.s.a.p. Tim used to operate under the name "Hondaworks" as well and he seems to like working on them. He certainly does a great job with mine. The shop is not clean, doesn't serve coffee and donuts, and doesn't have the latest computer invoicing system. This is a no-frills mechanic's mechanic. If he can't possibly squeeze you in in the timeframe you need, he'll send you to an equally reputable collegue specializing in whatever you need done. He's friendly, funny, competent, super-reasonable, and completely trustworthy. A gem. read more

I will save time and just affirm everything the other reviewers have said. Tim and his son are awesome. I never expect them to do stuff for free, but they do anyway. They charge a normal mechanic's price for big jobs, but they do the little stuff for now charge and do everything they can to save you money. I've had to insist on payment several times. The one thing I'll say is that there are only two of them (maybe three) and they get nothing but good online reviews...which means they're busy. I think Tim works something like 12-16 hour days 7 days a week, but he still gets backed up. I try to plan ahead, because I'd say it takes longer than expected to fix my car about half of the time. Everything mentioned here is spot on. I have a Honda Accord and found Tim (by the grace of God) just by looking for Honda repair shops in the yellow pages. Yes, "yellow pages". I have been with him that that long, since about 1998-1999, when they were at their old shop by KSTP TV and used the Hondaworks name. Tim has always been super honest and just an all around great person. The perfect combination for a repair guy if you ask me. I consider him a good friend now, too. I am now on my 2nd Honda and expect to purchase a newer Accord in the next few years. I would probably have purchased sooner, but Tim insists I should get about $350K miles on mine so I am going to see how long she goes! I am at 275K today all because of the quality Honda brand and Tim's expert repairs over the years. I could gush on and on about how he has saved me money and how he fixed my car numerous times very quickly when I was in a pinch, but that would just fill up space. Give him and his son Josh a call. The best mechanic i've ever been to! They were so sincere and kind. When i told them i couldn't afford an additional repair (on top of the one that brought my car in) they offered to teach me how to do it myself. They also explained everything they did to my vehicle in a very thorough and understandable way. Great customer service, quality repair and at a very reasonable price! I would highly recommend them to anyone but especially if you have a Honda since they know a ton about Hondas. They fixed my Honda civic. Wow! I read the reviews on Yelp but was sceptical...who can really be that great? After buying a car, getting it serviced is my least favorite thing, what with all the mystery charges, work not asked for, outlandish bills for simple stuff, jacked up prices for parts, etc, etc. So I decided to give them a try and found out for myself what the praise is about. My first contact was with Josh, who was very friendly and open on the phone and who managed to fit me in quickly. Tim fixed my car and he was incredible - he seems to know just about everything about every car ever made. He gave me an accurate diagnosis and quote, then kept me apprised every step of the way with calls and texts about exact costs and options, including ways to keep the cost of repair down. The end price for a difficult bit of work was extremely fair and very reasonable. Tim seemed like he felt guilty for charging me even that, when in reality he was worth every penny and more. I almost feel bad writing this review for fear that too many people will find out about this gem of a repair shop. Yet again, if others hadn't written their reviews, I wouldn't know myself.
