The fish is super…read morefresh, the chips are perfect mix of crisp and squidgy, the portions are big and the price is right. I'd highly recommend this to anyone in the area. My girlfriend and I find getting a fish each (I'd suggest haddock) and sharing a chips is more than enough for 2. Great for a take away and they even have some seats in the back. They had a refurbishment a few years back, updating their interior, so now it's bright and welcoming. Too many fish and chip places have gone down hill over the years, replaced by other fast food. The true stand outs, like Big Bite, have kept going strong - because they have a dedication to producing a quality product. They know what they do and they do it well. Unlike many plaices (sorry can't help myself), who use frozen fish or do pizza/chicken/burgers alongside their fish, these folks stay true to their roots, focusing on one product and excelling at it. I'd give 5*s if this was a google review, but I try to be a bit more reserved on Yelp. Needless to say I cannot recommend Big Bite enough.

The staff are always smiley, friendly and chatty! I will always remember when I came in here with a friend on our way home from a drunken night out in Camden at around 11pm-ish and because they were shortly going to be closing for the night, they gave us all their left over pies and pasties to go with our chips for freeeeeeeeeeeee! :) Yay for free food and service with a smile!

Of course that's probably great for my arteries and, to be honest, I don't miss it that much, but this little chippy near where i live has once again got me reaching for the vinegar and little wooden sticks! Okay, from the outside it looks a bit 70's raggedy and the street doesn't bode well but the family that run it are friendly, they make pretty much on demand as you order and the fish and batter is done really well. So if you live up north or get lost around here don't be afraid as actually this is a bloomin' good place!

It still looks unassuming and a bit dated, so much so, that although I have walked and taken the bus down this road many, many times, I never noticed it was here. The portions are massive. We had two large pieces of cod, one large chips and mushy peas, and I was so full I went into a bit of a food coma ...and sat on our sofa watching the Great British Bake Off without wanting to try everything(!) The batter was a bit thick and greasy for me (so it was a little soggy after the walk home) BUT I still really enjoyed it. Oh, and when I was too full to finish my portion, my kitten looooved it too.

THE BEST FISH AND CHIPS IN LONDON!!!…read more I grew up down the road from this place and we've been getting our fish'n'chip fix from there ever since I was a toddler. From as far back as I can remember, it's been owned by the same family - a lovely husband and wife team who have a very thick accent which I still haven't been able to place. These guys are terrific! Whenever my dad took me in there, I'd ask for my usual battered sausage and the lady would always call out to her husband who was wrapping and bagging the food, "And a battered sausage for the baby!" In fact, I was referred to as 'the baby' until I was about 18! For some reason they always call my dad Chris as well...his name is John! Anyway, if you go to Wick Fisheries you're always going to be welcomed with a big smile and fast service! The place seems to be stuck in the most delightful time warp. All the original '60s fixtures and fittings are still there, right down to the most ancient cash register you've ever seen in your life (unless of course you were alive any time prior to 1970...I'm only 26 myself!) The food doesn't disappoint, either! Lovely, hot, chunky chips in MASSIVE portions drenched in vinegar, mmmmm! As well as top quality fish, pies, saveloy and battered sausage....for the baby.

I had heard that fish & chips were great in the UK. So, I was very excited to try their version! The fish we tried was Haddock. I thought that it tasted okay, but I was expecting to be amazed! The fish was tasty, and the batter was not oily or greasy. That's a good thing. Perhaps, it did not meet my expectations because I did not eat the haddock right away. I believe they had picked up the fish a couple of hours before we arrived. So, I recommend going to their location. For certain, the food will be much better when you eat it sooner.

Firstly, it's pretty good value for money, and secondly, their chips are top notch. If it's 'paradise', well, I'll leave that up to you, but their fish cake was really quite tasty. I love the fact that this place has such high ceilings too. It means that by the time you leave with your take out order, you don't actually smell of fat or grease. They also serve up mushy peas which were pretty damn good as well as tartar sauce, although this is served up on those stupid packets for 20p each.

The shop itself always seems to be busy which is great because it means you don't get stuck with a piece of fish that has been resting under a heat lamp all day and your chips are still nice and crispy, not soggy with grease. Personally I'm not a fan of battered fish with its skin still on though because it never seems to crisp up nicely, it just gets a bit soggy. This is not a phenomena unique to the Paradise Fish Bar though so I do have to forgive it. Paradise is obviously very popular with a lot of the locals and school kids. On your walk up to Newington Green its rare not to see at least a few people holding bags of chips soaked in salt and vinegar. The service is always quick and friendly and the prices very reasonable. Paradise also makes a very welcome break from all the fried chicken chains which seem to dominate the area. I'd take fish, chips and mushy peas over greasy fried chicken and limp straw fries any day of the week.
