Before we even started, Mike assessed which eye was dominant (something I had never known before) and explained why that mattered. Even though I'm a "lefty" when it comes to writing, he let me choose which side felt right to shoot from. I realized I do a lot of things like a "righty" anyway, so I trusted his advice and went with my right, and it worked out perfectly. Mike came fully prepared with everything: extra eye protection (I had lost my sunglasses somewhere in my car ), ear plugs, multiple guns suited to different comfort levels, and even a shoulder pad. I'd gone shooting once back in college and remembered it being fun but painful. This time? Zero pain, just pure fun What stood out most to me was how knowledgeable and passionate Mike is. This clearly isn't just a job for him, it's something he genuinely loves and takes pride in sharing. I only signed up for the lesson to try something new, not expecting to fall in love with shooting or want to return. But by the end, I absolutely wanted to come back (and hope to when I can afford it again!). I also really appreciated Mike's character. When I mentioned hunting, he explained that he shoots for sport, not to harm animals, and even told me he feeds local deer and rescues animals. That says a lot about who he is. The actual shooting lesson was such a cool progression. I started with orange disks on the ground, then moved to two at a time, then to flying targets launched from small machines on the ground and towers. By the end, I was hitting pairs -- first one flying straight back, then another soaring high into the sky. Each step came with clear guidance before each shot, encouragement afterward, and tips to improve or stay consistent. What really made the experience special was Mike's energy. Every time I hit a target, he got just as excited as I did. When I started missing a tougher one, he kept saying, "Trust me, I know you're going to get it." His confidence in me built my confidence, and that encouragement pushed me not to settle for "fun defeat" but to actually improve and excel. I even walked away with some transferable life lessons about committing to goals, applying feedback, following through, focusing, and staying self-aware. All in all, I can't recommend this experience enough. If you've ever thought about trying shooting, or just want to learn something new with a patient, passionate, and encouraging instructor, Mike Marelli is the one to learn from.

I've recently rekindled the 2nd Amendment hobby from my younger days and this range has been…read moreamazing. I grew up handling firearms in Texas and Oklahoma and the ranges there are frankly somewhat lacking in many regards. RSOs are far and few between, safety is taken somewhat lightly, and in in general a lot of the ones I've been to aren't very well run, from membership process to ammo sales to rentals, etc. In Oklahoma specifically, I once witnessed someone discharge a .50 caliber magnum into the ceiling by mistake in the port next to me by someone who decided that starting their firearm journey with the largest revolver they could rent was a good idea. Ummmm.... Gun for Hire to me has been somewhat of a shock in how well it operates, and how nice and knowledgeable everyone is. This place is run like a Rolex factory. I became a member after the first visit. I've now brought both family friends and members to this place at least half a dozen times and every time our experience has been extremely positive. From the registration process, to the rental process to the RSOs giving tips and advice to newbies everything has been spotless so far. Rental ( non-member range ) practically has RSO for every port, and member range typically has around 2 RSOs (due to a more knowledgeable clientele). Chief RSO is a distinguished gentleman whose stories are as awesome as his mustache. Gun for Hire shop is staffed by very knowledgeable people and they sold me my first dream gun (John Browning's classic in Lord's Caliber) and I really appreciated their advice on everything from magazine selection to maintenance tools, to future purchases. If they don't have something in the shop they will write the item description on the super-cute "prescription pad" for you to be able to look them up elsewhere. Special shout out to the Gunsmith Mike who is super chill, and has helped me get my 1911 running like clockwork post-break-in period. He provided me with a ton of maintenance tips which saved me a lot of effort and time (and prevented me from doing an "idiot scratch"). Lastly, I'll address some of the extremely negative reviews that I've seen here for this place. You come to a place where you are handed a murder machine that you can fit comfortably in your hand. Follow the 4 rules or else FAFO. Yes I have definitely seen RSOs raising their voice to people doing stupid things in the rental area. That IS THEIR JOB. If you are handed a destructive device and don't follow the rules to the T don't be offended when you hear "Cease fire!". Watch a 10 minute video on youtube on gun safety and no one will have a single issue with you, I promise. This place is as inclusive as it gets.

The staff inside at the front desk was super kind, they even charged my phone for me. They have free stickers on the wall at the entrance/exit! Once we got our waivers taken care of, we went downstairs to get our guns of choice and equipment. The team was very knowledgeable and gave us great reccomendations for first timers. Marthin checked us out at the counter and had great customer service skills. We chose the AR-15 and a 9mm. It's was $313 for 4 people including the 2 guns, ammo and eyes and ear rental equipment. Not a bad price to split for ~1.5 hours. When we got inside of the range, the staff took their time to show each one of us the correct way to load, unload, pick up/put down the gun, turn the safety on/off and how to position our hands with each gun. They stayed close by for any questions an to watch our form and they so nice and helpful. Literally everyone and that helped make the experience so good for us. I took home the zombie poster after we demolished it!
