I never imagined I would be writing a review like this, but I believe other families deserve to…read moreknow about our experience with Hiester Construction. My father was 91 years old and had been diagnosed with dementia. Before this roofing project, his physician had determined that he lacked the capacity to make financial decisions, and an activated Power of Attorney was already in place. My sister personally spoke with Mr. Hiester and informed him that our father was not capable of making these types of financial decisions and that the family needed to be involved. Despite being told this, the project proceeded. Our family also informed Mr. Hiester that our father's health was declining and that he likely would not remain in the home for very long. Rather than discussing whether a less expensive repair or patch would meet his needs, he recommended a much more extensive roofing project. The roof that was installed was an overlay over the existing roof rather than a complete tear-off and replacement. Based on the work that was performed, our family believes the amount charged was excessive. Within just a few months, my father was hospitalized multiple times and ultimately moved into assisted living. Looking back, the money spent on this roofing project could have helped pay for the care he now needs. What has been most disappointing is the lack of accountability. Before posting this review, we made numerous phone calls and sent a certified letter asking Hiester Construction to discuss a fair resolution. Despite confirming receipt of our correspondence, no one responded. Because Hiester Construction chose not to communicate with our family, we are now filing complaints with the appropriate Illinois licensing authorities, consumer protection agencies, and elder protection agencies while seeking appropriate compensation. If you are considering hiring this company, especially if you are helping an elderly parent or loved one, I strongly encourage you.

They quoted me $800 to hang photos, fix a tiny grout issue (a power sander would have done it), fix…read morea drywall issue, run a bead of caulk behind the sink, and to move a light in the bathroom. Four guys showed up to do the work. They did a lousy job on the caulk, didn't have the right tools to fix the grout issue, realized they couldn't move the light, did a really lousy drywall patch job (the finish is not even close to the surrounding wall), and just generally did not inspire confidence. I paid them a partial amount just to go away. They never came back to try and finish the remaining jobs they quoted, and now they are not answering the phone. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.

This review itself is not about that issue, as the owner at the time, Josh, did everything he could to help us recover and the insurance process was relatively smooth. This review is due to ongoing leak/warranty issues and the fact that the current owner, Kevin, is refusing to do any warranty work or even come look at the roof. Kevin claimed we owed them $3,500 for additional work they did. We have shown Kevin proof in our text messages with Josh that we did not indeed owe them any money. This is because their insurance did not cover roughly $5,000 of our personal belongings. Josh and I came to an agreement that we would call the money we owed each other even for the additional work and the insurance claim. Josh never said or even hinted that we would be losing our warranty coverage (they technically owed me more money that I owed them). Kevin now says that we have zero warranty now through their company (should be 50 years) on our new $28,000 roof and refuses to send someone out. As a business owner myself, it is frankly astonishing to me the way that Kevin is acting. I had been patient and polite with Kevin, proved to him that we did not owe the company any money, and he repaid us by completely and unjustly revoking our roof warranty and refusing to stand by their craftsmanship.
