His nurse is awesome and returns phone calls quickly & efficiently. But if you call for an appointment or check in it is like no one was trained in how to be friendly to the patients... The staff is not abusive or unresponsive, just not overly friendly. If you are going to stick a needle in my ass or ask me for a co-pay a smile really shouldn't be too much to ask for, right?

Four office visits and I am yet to experience less than a 2 hour wait time - and that is with calling ahead for delay updates (without those expect upwards of 4 hours delay, not kidding). I understand it is challenging for staff when Dr. Capen commonly goes overtime with patients but less severe attitudes from check-in personnel and more accommodations for patients who are physically unable to withstand extreme wait times should be explored. During my relatives last appointment, after calling ahead and still being told of additional wait time, he was told he would be seeing the NP ( who was overheard complaining about his transfer to her schedule) not Dr. Capen. I had to call the office and threaten reviews to have him placed back on Capen's schedule. Call backs are equally challenging often exceeding 24 hours. My relative nurse and I have both been leaving messages for biopsy /oncology contact information. 3 weeks later, still no return call. It typically takes at least 24 hours for a return call but baffled at delay surpassing weeks. A biopsy had been scheduled then we were told last minute it could not be done. Weeks later I heard from a new surgical center that they could get the sample using a different method. My relative was frustrated and tired and stated he did not want a biopsy and went on hospice. He would now like more information on the latest biopsy approach. I anticipated this would be challenging for Capen's office staff but several weeks is plenty of time to simply return a call to either me or his nurse regarding his options. Dr. Capen is a great doctor but patient centered care must be viewed as a team effort among his staff or it all falls apart leaving frustrating and time sensitive gaps in care.

I don't think there was any consideration for my age. Noting no change in my regaining my "old self" after many days, I wanted the Dr. to know of the many side effects I'd been left with. I questioned Dr. Clarke about each one: he was very dismissive and " it may take a little longer for you to feel better." The discharge papers stated I'd had a "therapeutic stretch injury." My throat still feels swollen or like a "lump in my throat." The Dr.'s answer to my concern; " see your ENT." His post scope Rx caused a side effect of day-long headaches. I threw the meds away and asked "What now?" The Dr.'s response: "get an OTC anti-acid." There was never any empathy; Again," it may just take longer for you to feel better." Over two months later, I still have headaches, never in my life had I ever experienced them until this Scope. One result of the procedure left my voice changing dramatically; I did not recognize my own speech. If I talked more than a few minutes I began adopting a guttural voice and had to stop phone calls or conversing with family. I used to be a peppy lady, very social, and quite often met my family and friends for shopping outings and lunches. No more, I'm worn out all the time. I just slog around my home and regret so very much agreeing to the scope. I had colorectal cancer two years ago, successfully taken care of by another physician. That Dr.'s office recommended Dr. Clarke for my digestive concern; I worried that I had cancer again rather than a digestive complaint. I agreed to the endoscopy and it was the worst mistake of my life. The most encouraging words after my entire ordeal were from the nurses at the Endoscopy Center; they were very caring and after I had told them of my experience, the Center's Manager phoned me to express her caring and sympathy. She wanted to know more about my lack of well-being and the lack of empathy I'd received from the Dr. I told her everything as I am doing here.

The office called and was highly professional in their interaction, providing very detailed instructions on how to find the office, including the correct door to enter through. That made everything go extremely smoothly on the day that I arrived to meet with Dr. Zappia. The office staff were invaluable, pleasant, and timely. I was in the office getting my vitals quickly, and the nurse was great. Dr. Zappia, on the other hand, is wonderful. He is kind, empathetic, listens to what you are saying, and then takes the time to talk with you and answer questions. He is direct with his responses and thorough. I could not have asked for a better surgeon. The day of the surgery arrived, and Dr. Zappia ensured everything was going well and performed a great job during my surgery. He was able to perform the surgery quickly, and my incision was small and healing well. He came out and spoke with my husband, ensuring that everyone was well-informed throughout the day of the surgery and after. Dr. Zappia even called me before the end of the day on Friday to give me my pathology results, noting, "I didn't want you worrying all weekend". I loved that he showed that compassion for his patient. I highly recommend Dr. Zappia and his staff. I will return as a patient if I ever need general surgery in the future.

I initially had an OB that I did not click with and decided to change to Dr. Colvin half-way through my first pregnancy. Can I tell you that she is the most amazing woman EVER! When you are opening other people up into a vulnerable space, like pregnancy, you want to be sure that you are taken care of and that's what she does. Dr. Colvin is so knowledgeable and she feels more like a friend than a doctor. She was there for me throughout both of my high risk pregnancies!!! She made sure I was on track and encouraged me every step of the way. Every time I had an appointment, she would let me know that I was doing a great job! I hope to have every pregnancy with her (don't tell my husband I said that, he wants to be done having kids but with an OB like Dr. Colvin, you kinda want a reason to keep going back, lol). Lastly, the ladies in the office are amazing! They are kind and they make sure you have everything taken care of. They helped me get all of my appointments scheduled and they are so awesome at asking me how I am doing and are so friendly.
