After they tried to sell a $15,000 home repiping, I was told they would send before and after pictures from a previous inspection, which I never received. They also wanted to charge me 80 for an inspection without telling me before hand. I also don't know why your past military service justifies your high pressure sales tactics and calls. This company has proven to be the worst at everything a reputable business is supposed to be good at. Their customer service is horrible. It took 1 month, and 2 missed appointments later for them to service my ac unit. When they finally sent someone, they decided to send a severely inexperienced technician to service the unit. Due to his lack of knowledge, the technician damaged my ac unit. Then, they have the audacity to try to sell me a ridiculously overpriced "shiny new" ac unit, to try and mask their screw-up. You live, you learn. I wished I had looked on Yelp before having them out, of the first 20 plumbing business that show up for me, they have the lowest rating. I had a water mark on my ceiling, so I knew it was a small leak. I was not sure if it was due to AC unit or water pipe. I had an AC service already scheduled so thought I would start with them, they crawled in attic and confirmed not AC unit, it is copper pipe and it appeared to be corrosion at a joint. So, I called Dutton about 20 min after my AC service. I called Dutton because I thought I could trust them, I have seen the trucks around and I see the building every time I leave Lowe's in Simi. They scheduled an appointment about 2 hours later that same day. They did a pressure test and said it's not my water, it's my AC. I told him the AC guy was here, 2 hours ago, did a service then looked and confirmed, it is copper pipping and corrosion and asked if they can please take a look vs just doing a pressure test. He agreed, said he did not have a 6' ladder and asked if I did, so I brought up my ladder for him to the room with the attic entry. He said there is no way the AC guy went back there to look, they need to cut open the ceiling, I will admit, it is a tight squeeze and the AC guy was not small, neither am I so I said, okay, sounds fair enough. Cutting open ceiling= $200. He said he will lay some plastic down to cover the mess. The "plastic" he laid down was a door mat maybe 3'x4' and it did, nothing. After cutting, indeed, copper pipe with corrosion at a 90 degree joint just like the AC guy mentioned. $1200+ for repair. It felt aggressive but I blindly agreed because they are there, maybe this is reasonable, maybe it's sticker shock on my end etc and, I wanted it repaired. After he said "We will need to shut off your water for 20 maybe 25 min" and that was because the entire job, was 20 minutes. Work seems good but also does not seem complicated, so I could have used any plumbing company in my opinion. I also now have drywall debris all over my room I need to clean and vacuum (I assumed the $200 was for them to cut this in a way they would tape off the ceiling to reduce debris, I can cut a hole in my ceiling in 3-4 min as well and for free). The guy did offer to wipe off my dresser if I had a towel he could use. Total bill was $1,530 for what was about 25 maybe 30 min of work. They bill by the project and not the hour (this price just did not sit well with me so I started looking into this after and saw on their site they are project not hourly) and it makes sense, if they said their hourly rate was $3,000 no one would use them. Like other reviews mentioned, other reputable plumbers have done the same work Dutton quoted for them, for significantly less. I am very confident, this could have been the case for me and perhaps they would have crawled the attic like the AC guy did and I would not be left with further clean up and repair. End of the day, it was 100% my decision to move forward, I could have stopped this anytime. So, I will end similar to I began; Lesson learned. read more

I had a clogged toilet, and they used a camera to look through the line and found that tree roots were blocking the line and it would cost $18,000 to fix. I wanted a second opinion but was told that this was urgent. In the end, using my better judgment, I declined and was still charged $850 for the service call and having the camera look through the line. I called a second company to come out and they fixed the problem, which was not tree roots, for $300. read more

Our kitchen sink was clogged so we needed a plumber to come out and fix it. I had remembered the Dutton radio jingle and decided why not give them a try? Their store front is very nice and sleek. You get greeted by a nice receptionist, you get a text with a picture of the service tech coming out, they're dressed nice and tidy and have cool looking trucks, and their representatives are super friendly and "helpful" DON'T LET THIS FOOL YOU!!! They did a pressure wash to unclog my drain which fixed the issue and if we had stopped there, I would have been a 5 star customer; however, they had proceeded to use scare tactics to address standing water in my pipes and suggested a line epoxy treatment to address it. To start this treatment, they needed to access my main line clean out. Here's where they got real slimy. They specifically said I DID NOT have a clean out and quoted me 6k to get one installed inside my garage. Next day they started work but I couldn't help but feeling they were pulling my leg, so I decided to get a 2nd opinion from another plumber. Turns out I ALREADY have a main line clean out that's EASILY accessible in my front yard. I quickly stop Dutton from finishing the job and exercise my 3 day right to refuse service and thankfully didn't get charged the 6k, but now my garage has a 3x3 new concrete scar... As for the standing water, it's nothing I should worry about according to another plumber's opinion. Dutton had quoted 23k to "fix" something that wasn't even a real issue. DO NOT TRUST THESE GUYS! They know all the tactics to get you to cave in to their work(nice store front, scare tactics, they look clean and professional, and they're straight up out to scam you into unnecessary work). From my experience with Dutton and by reading the swell of negative reviews is they promise the customer good and timely service without real intention of fulfilling that promise. My daughter called Dutton on the Thursday and was promised service on Friday. Because our daughter works, my wife and I filled in for her waiting for the service technician to arrive. Numerous calls throughout the day lead to frequent text updates that help was on its way - help arrived in the form of technician who did not clear the blockage, he rather recommended a "scope" of the main line. Entire day of lost time and broken appointments for us. At this point we were given a window for the Saturday "scoping of the main line" for 8-to 9 am. I arrive at my daughter's house before 8 on Saturday morning after driving 40 miles from my home. I wait and wait and after the experiences of the previous day I decide to leave at 9:15. I had an important appointment to attend to. As I am leaving, they arrive, I asked them where the had been for the past hour plus, I was told they were doing paperwork. Ok, I apologize, but I lost it, I was super pissed by this time, told them I thought their business model of promising service on the customers schedule and then delivering when the saw fit to come was a sham, a con. Reading reviews suggest what I experienced is not unusual. There is also, it seems to me, to be a pattern of bidding work extremely high, profoundly high (see reviews). We sold our house here at the Country club in Moorpark . The inspection went well. The new owners asked if we could install a seismic gas valve. Which the part only cost $108 . We were told it was less than $500 bucks installed . Based of others who had it done . Considering our 5000+ square-foot house only showed a toilet flap leaking , and something else minimal, I thought maybe I would have this done for the new owner . I Called Dutton plumbing they came out and gave me a price in excess of $2000. I laughed, as a pretty knowledgeable guy , I was rather upset that they kept me waiting all day to give me this kind of price . RIP OFF ALERT AVOID DUTTON PLUMBING! Several years ago, my normal plumber was on vacation and I made the HUGE mistake of grabbing the Yellow Pages and calling Dutton. I simply needed a washer replaced in my daughter's bathroom. She would over tighten the faucet and once a year my plumber would replace it for an $80 service call. The Dutton technician wanted $945 to perform the same service. How did the price get so high? By adding additional work that was not needed (like cleaning the drain line that was working perfectly). At this point it became clear to me this was a HOME REPAIR RIP-OFF and I asked the technician to leave. He quickly took his pen and blacked out the $945 estimate (to hide his sins) and stated I still owed him $39. I wrote the check only to get him out of my home. Just a side note: The following day I went to Larry & Joes Plumbing and purchased everything (including the tools) to fix the leaky faucet myself. Total cost: $36. Dutton Plumbing is absolutely NOT the plumber you would send to your mother's house. Eric Dutton (owner) is just another California contractor using his license to rip off homeowners. Let me ask you this, If this same thing occurred to your mother, grandma, wife, sister or any other woman you care about, would you except the outcome? I already know the answer to that. Last week I saw that one of my neighbors was having work done and I was sure to stop by and share my experience in the form of a letter and provided her with my contact information. I informed her that she should consider getting a second opinion. She informed me that they had already started the work. Later that evening, she left a voicemail and her voice was shaking a she said she is a wreck. She was so angry and distraught, as she realized, that so many of the things that happened to me, had just happened to her. She said the salesman/tech was like communicating with a snake oil salesman; who couldn't give you a straight answer to save your life. Every question was met with resistance and your question unanswered. I saved my next-door neighbor as well, who actually had been handed a hand written estimate and later that day an official estimate that she had to ask for. Her job went from almost $11,700 to $7800, or thereabouts. I find it interesting that the price can be dropped by almost $4500. Because right now, you are not living up to your tagline "the plumber you'd send to your moms house"! I think it's important for your company to reevaluate their business practices; like you're sending in your very tall Salesman/Technician with his iPad, asking for a signature on something that we are not even afforded the opportunity to read, as you were holding that IPad in your hand, just low enough for a signature. You never receive anything in writing until it's totally too late. Which means that you never have anything to look at, so you don't ponder or reconsider. You just trust that, whatever they're saying, is truth. Because "the plumber you'd send to your moms house" would have some morals and understand ethics, right? Big mistake! They give you nothing to look at until they have broken ground. I asked for an invoice after I signed that finance agreement and was told I would be receiving an email this evening with the invoice and the finance link. Well the finance link was the only thing that I received from Dutton that evening and then 8 days go by and still nothing else? Now, at this point, (all this is documented), I have already asked in voicemail, text message and verbal communication, regularly requesting an invoice, and, always nothing. And I mean nothing!! Oh, but you do have my signature on a finance agreement for $50,000. And this is without me getting to read any of it. I do believe this is an illegal act. However, you were sure to send me that finance agreement link, but, you failed to forward the invoice that you generated, reflecting the amount, to back up that finance agreement? And no opportunity "at all", to see any of the work being done, until after the the job is done or well underway. I'm not stupid, I know that these practices, are not only immoral, but they are illegal. The beginning of September and now I have no option for putting my house back together so I have no other choice but to put my house on the market because I cannot recover from this. So with no money, one ulcer and one panic attack later; I agreed on what I thought might be fair. I don't think it is. I have not signed the settlement agreement yet, because it also appears to take away my rights to freedom of speech. Dutton boys, if think theses business practice are OK, then you stay right where you are. But, as long as you are not in alignment with Source, then you will always meet with resistance. I have 6 more days to submit all of my supporting documentation; supporting my claim against your company to CSLB. They are very very expensive. They charged me $4500 for a new tankless water heater in 2017. The only reason I went with them is because I called 3 other plumbers and got no response. Talk about being taken advantage of. Then, a few months ago I was not getting any hot water in the house. Since I supposedly have a lifetime warranty on the heater I had Dutton come out. The plumber looked at the unit for about 5 minutes, said its not the heater its an electrical problem and charged me $150. They arrived, saw that she lives alone, Jackpot. For a clogged drain, was told that that 30 feet of leaky, molding pipe under the house had to be replaced. Knowing that no old woman is ever going to crawl under a house, she was quoted $5399.00. She was told that the job would take between 6 & 8 hours to complete. The pipe that supposedly needed to be replaced is 2" ABS pipe that can be purchased at Home Depot or Lowes for less than $2.00 a foot. We'll call that $60.00. That leaves $5339.00 for labor. At 8 hours, that's $667.38 per hour, at 6 it's $889.83. WOW are you kidding me!! Oh kicker, she was told that she was eligible for a $60 senior discount. So noble and thoughtful. She called me after receiving her quote and asked if I thought she should have them do the work. I spoke with Josh the manager and asked him to justify the labor costs. I was told that nobody does parts and labor anymore, It's all flat rate now. Ok but if you break down the price, this is how much you are receiving for labor I said. I had a main sewer line over flow. I called at 6AM & got no answer. I called back again at 8:00 AM and got an arrival time between 8:30 - 11:00. They finally got here just after noon. Good thing I had the day off! Before even looking at my drain, he told me how his job was to tell me the truth. This concerned me because my house is obviously not new, but at this point, he didn't know if my pipes were new or not. I'm smart enough to know the the "truth" was probably a big repair bill. They proceeded to snake my drain then went back to their truck for several minutes. I finally went out to see what was happening. He informed me that they were putting a camera down my drain. Several more minutes later they knocked on the door and told me how bad my pipes are. He showed me some roots growing in the pipe (they are from a tree I had removed 20 years ago.) Then, he quoted me between $9,000 - $13,000 to replace the 25 feet of pipe to the street; AND... if it were to collapse, it would be double that amount. He said that mine will definitely collapse! Then, he said not to worry, they take payments. I paid the $73 for the drain clearing, then called my homeowners insurance agent. For $25/year I had the coverage added to my insurance. If it does ever collapse, it will be covered by homeowners insurance. Bottom Line: NEVER CALL THESE PEOPLE! read more

Long story short: Do not call this company unless all you need from them is shady sales pitches for stuff your house doesn't need. Full story: We awoke one morning to discover a large water puddle in the laundry room. We called Dutton, as they were the first available services. They were very friendly on the phone and showed up in a reasonable time... and that's where the good news stops. The TECHNICIAN they sent out hastily diagnosed the problem as a slab leak, and then spent the rest of the time there trying to upsell us on a wide variety of products we didn't need. Their favorite upsells are new water heaters (ours is only 5 years old), expensive water filtration systems, and a full house re-piping project estimated for us between $15,000 and $30,000. The technician would not leave the house until we signed up for an over-priced leak detection ($700) in a few days. The technician assured us that the problem was just with the hot water and as long as the hot water was off, we could run water during the day, which we did. Two hours later, the laundry room was full of water again, and it had spread to the living room. So we called them back and turned our water off. The next day, Dutton showed back up, spent a little more time diagnosing the problem, which they slightly changed. We were told we still needed the full re-pipe and leak detection services and told to adjust our water usage to only certain sinks, which we did. Two hours later, the laundry room was again flooded, which had spread further into the living room! So much for giving them the benefit of the doubt. We immediately called Dutton to cancel the leak detection and any further service with them. Our usual plumber was now available, and came over to help. His leak detection service did so for half the cost of Dutton's; in addition, our plumber fixed the issue for a fraction of the cost. Our water is on, the problem is fixed, and it cost a small fraction of what Dutton would have cost. I called Dutton to look at a leak behind my dishwasher. The pee trap under my sink was intact and working before their inspection. Paul and his apprentice were dispatched and came to my house quickly. They tested the water pressure took some pictures and left after trying to sell me a home water system. The next day the insurance adjuster/inspector takes a look and notices the pipe above the pee trap has been disconnected. So we put it back together and now it leaks when it didn't before. The "best" part is that Paul is smart and took a picture of this disconnected pipe and says he told me that it was old and needed to be replaced. He never told me that during the first visit. Now I've paid $89 dollars to add a leak. Call someone else. read more

Got a cold call from them offering to "service" my water heater for free, plumber just gave me a sakes pitch for expensive water filter they were selling-- plus he messed up my plumbing. 2nd plumber from Dutton came over to fix what the first plumber did but instead of that he just pulled the same b.s., poking around looking for excuses to make me spend $20,000 on stuff I don't want, even calling his "boss" to give me a high pressure sales pitch. Didn't fix any of the damage the first plumber did, and had the temerity to demand $50 for his "services. I tried to be polite but they made me feel very uncomfortable, bullied and scammed. read more

No show! Horrible service! I called at 2pm. I was told they would call me back with time of service. Never heard from the so u called. They kept telling me the would have to call me back. 3 1/2 hours later no one came and now they are closing. No manager available for escalation. Waste of my time and energy. read more

I worked with a customer service person who said that I definitely had an appointment. I get a call the day-of saying "you may have an appointment, you may not." I explained the situation to dispatch service, and they said "all we promised is that you would get a follow-up call". I am confident that I did not misunderstand. I hung up, called a plumber that could clearly help me, and then called to cancel. Time is the most valuable thing we have. Do not disrespect it. read more

Charged $2500 for sink, garbage disposal, and dishwasher installation. It took the technician almost 8 hours. The dishwasher wasn't working after all that time. He claimed it was a manufacturer issue. I called manufacture as he was trying to leave. They proved it was due to his improper installation. The garbage disposal isn't working. We booked a follow up appointment for 8-11am. They didn't show up. I called they said my window is from 1pm-4pm. Overpriced and under qualified. fancy song plays while on hold though as I've listened to it for countless amounts of time. Maybe save that jingle money and train your techs Update. They just called after I blocked my entire day to wait for them and said they can't come until Monday. This company is seriously the worst I've ever dealt with. Honestly I knew what I was getting myself into when reading these reviews, but I thought " hey maybe they are over exaggerating" well.. I was wrong. I booked my appointment on Friday 01/31 they said they would be there in 15-30 min. Perfect right?!? Well no... 4hrs later they call me saying that they weren't going to make it I tried giving them the Benifit of the doubt and I said that's ok they are busy! Well.. they scheduled me for the next day 02/23 and they promised me that they would get to me! (Plus 20$ off). I made a booking for 12:30 and they called me at 12 saying that they are UNDER STAFFED and that they would tryy to get to me by the end of the day! THE END OF THE DAY! I do not have time to sit around waiting for a plumber to come. If you say a time come at that time. So disappointed... I copied part of this review from another person because they hit the nail on the head. TERRIBLE customer service! Their scheduling is a joke ( non existent) I took a morning off work to have then come for an appointment at 9am. I had to call them at 9:30 when I had heard nothing from them and they said that they would call back at noon to confirm my appointment (which was supposed to be at 9am). They called me at noon saying that they would once again call me at 3 and had asked if I wanted to be rescheduled for a different day. I wasted a WHOLE DAY of my valuable time waiting for them to come to my home for a leaky faucet. I started at 0900 am then got a call at the end of the day to tell me that they wouldn't be able to make it. Can we schedule another day for you? WHAT - you told me that you were coming out today! Why should I give you a chance to not show up again? Do NOT use DUTTON. You will never get a person to your house. I called another plumber and they said they can come within the next 2 hours... I would have loved to have given them more stars but it's just no feasible. I will say their customer service was great. Very responsive and attentive, but I think they're just overbooked. If you don't need things done right away, use them! But I'm not sure how many of us have plumbing issues that aren't urgent. I called first thing in the morning and they got back to me right away and continued to check up on me throughout the day with updates on their technicians. Sadly they were so busy that they offered to set something up for Monday. Today is Thursday which means for 4 days I would be unable to use my house in regards to any water (no using the toilet, sink, washer, etc.) I ended up having to call a different company to come take care of my plumbing issues. I kept getting pushed later on into the day and they wouldn't have been able to assist me. read more

We just finished using Dutton Plumbing again to have a water heater, sink and toilet installed and as always the job was perfect. This time, we had James C. and Cole C. as our technicians and they were totally awesome. Excellent workers, courteous and cleaned up well when finished.
