I'm here to say the only bad one star review from I dunno who, but not listed as from DF should be ignored. ABE has been the only owner I have ever known in the past 18 years - he is dedicated to this town, to this community. The pricing is posted and more than fair - he is here rain shine or massive snow. If power is out he is STILL here to serve our community and he is well loved throughout. If you're ever lucky enough to see Dutch Flat and shop in this circa 1800's Trading Post - you will savor the experience, this little store and this historic town. 5-star all the way! read more

That makes Abe the biggest Bud Dealer in the area :P - This store is the Lifeline of Dutch, when the snow hits, you better believe that Abe will be there, when the hunger hits, Abe will be there, when the Diapers need Changing, Abe will be there (to sell you the diapers, not change the baby) As a community, Dutch Flat would not be what it is without the Trading Post. BE. CAREFUL. My husband went in for a quart of milk and a pint of cream and came home confused (he doesn't usually do the shopping) as he was charged a total of $14.97 for 3 items: $4.99 for the quart of milk and $4.99 each for two 1/2 pints of cream. I called the owner--thinking it was a mistake--and was told curtly those items were all $4.99 apiece. I checked Marval Sierra market in Colfax the same day to compare prices. Same brand HALF GALLON of milk was $2.99 (they didn't have a quart) and 1/2 pint of cream was $2.29. In addition this owner doesn't post the prices--he makes it up when you bring the items up to the register. I have shopped at the trading post for 30 years with previous owners. I understand the prices are higher because it's a little store up in the mountains-- just like the prices are higher at the Colfax market compared to Auburn because it's a little out-of-the-way--but this current owner is unfairly gouging and cheating locals and visitors. BEWARE. We gladly shop local to support family owned businesses and are happy to pay a little more to do so, however, we will not be shopping at the Trading Post in the future and will not refer our Airbnb guests there either-- in fact I will warn them NOT to shop there until there is another change of ownership. read more

The Dutch Flat Trading Post post is an icon of Dutch Flat. Not only do you get convenience of picking up odds and ends down the street from home but you get the community feel chatting and catching up with Abe. Living in Dutch Flat is rewarding and challenging at times. One year after a snow storm we had three feet of snow on the ground and I wasn't able to get my car out to leave town to get my daughter a birthday cake. Thankfully Abe was open and I was able to get her a cake for her birthday. Of course your going to pay slightly more than the big stores, however there are no corporate stores around. Which is clearly why the trading post is the last truly local store left in most small towns. I can't think of another small town with a charming small local store left. I love the Dutch flat trading post. I love bringing my kids there to show them how stores used to be. I love supporting local businesses, especially Abe who has a heart of gold. read more

I want to give Abe 5 million stars for a) being here at all and b) being a very, very kind person, and hey! They have two sizes of nightcrawlers! There were only a few things I was hoping for at this place: * an ATM (the museum and the plant store are cash only, but there's no cash source in DF) * bubble water I could drink - check * beer I could drink - check Sierra Pale Ale forever I would have had a MUCH longer list though, but for the fact that I brought a cooler of snacks from Sac. I have nothing bad to say about the wonderful proprietor, and maybe it's not really fair to compare? But as a NorCal Gal I have been in 1-horse towns that offer more in their General Stores. Where do y'all locals shop? ? I have many questions. A lot of things are a fair drive away. With regards to the ATM question, maybe they don't get enough strangers to warrant it. A couple weeks back my wife and I met "Abe" the local store keeper at the Dutch Flat Trading Post in Dutch Flat, CA. What a wonderful man! He is latest of a long line of store keepers who has kept this gem operating continuously since the Gold Rush days. There is also a vintage Post Office next door that makes you feel like you stepped back in time. This town is definitely worth taking a few minutes off the Interstate to check out! read more

Best kept secret on interstate 80 when traveling to Lake Tahoe: The Dutch Flat Trading Post! Not only is the town worth seeing with its historic goid rush era hotel, community center, and church but the trading post keeper (Abe) is the nicest shop keeper in the west! Love this store! Great place to get fresh produce, beer, candy, and other provisions for your trip in the mountains. BTW: don't blink while passing through Dutch Flat, downtown is a hotel, trading post (store), post office, antique store, and two museums. read more

I visit friends in town and the Trading Post always has whatever I need even if its hard to find. Thanks for carrying swim diapers! In a world undermined by the internet, this place still provides personal convenience in a small town which will hopefully not become overrun by bay area transplants looking for a cheap place to spend their weekends or pretend to be a member of a community - but don't bring their money with them. This store is great, the owner is so nice and very friendly. Each time my family and I travel we always stop in Dutch Flat just to go to the store. Awesome little store with all the items we need. Dutch flat is the place to go especially for the 4th, the owner really participates in all the activities. You never see this type of family friendly place anymore, but the owner makes it happen. My children love going to this store and talking with the owner, my husband and I as well. The owners bbq are awesome, quality food for that great price. I hope those who are reading do not consider Tiffany H post. This is the first time I have ever wrote a comment about anything. My extended family moved to Dutch Flat a couple of years ago and one of the first discoveries they made was the Trading Post. From the first encounter Abe made them feel like family and that continues to this day. Abe is the kind of owner that makes certain that he stocks what this small and quaint community needs. My grandkids cannot wait to shop there and it is the final destination after a day at the pool or a walk. Every visit there is the best for them. Abe cares deeply about this community, and I never worry about my kids getting snowed in knowing Abe will have stocked what they may need. The Dutch Flat Trading Post is the most amazing store for miles. The Owner is an absolute necessity to this community! He has personally offered to bring food himself in his own vehicle on his own time to help my daughter and I during a winter storm when we were fully unable to get out to go anywhere! Abe has offered his own family's Thanksgiving Meal when the town lost power for a week and we had prior arrangements but due to no power had to buy a whole meal at the last minute. He does not only go completely out of his way to make it miles every day to serve our little community but, he is also the sweetest, most generous, hard working, give the shirt off his back kind of man and having him and the girls at the Trading post makes living here all the more special! SHAME to anyone that ever complains about even the tiniest of things. If you would rather spend and hour and the extra $$$$ in gas. Go down the hill and shop at a major chain!
