Incredible. My original review of Urban Grange reflected a poor experience with soured milk, but…read moreI've never been so happy to give a place another chance. I've now visited Urban Grange Coffee over a dozen times, and each visit has been better than the last. Consistently remarkable technique, fast and friendly service, and an always clean and cozy interior make Urban Grange the perfect place to visit for a work-from-home getaway. This cafe has something for everyone, with drinks that range from a well-pulled traditional "spotted" macchiato to the most intense sugar bombs you've ever seen. Any drink can be made with medium, dark, or decaf roasts. The music is kept low but audible, never overwhelming, and always well-curated. The seating varies from small tables along the wall with plenty of outlets, to cozy leather loungers, to folding chairs along the covered patio. The final thing I should note is the bagels. There's a great variety (including pumpernickel!) but limited stock, so come early or be ready to adjust your order. There are no bad options here, so it's not worth stressing about.

The lane we were directed into was not clearly marked, and by that point we were already stuck in line with no easy way to switch. I explained that we had already been waiting and that the confusion was due to unclear signage, but the staff refused to take our order, saying it would disrupt their queue. Rather than helping resolve the situation, they simply turned us away. The interaction was rude and unhelpful, so we chose to leave without ordering.

There is a lot of seating and the booth I sat at had an outlet that also had usb-a and usb-c ports which was thoughtful. The building is new and the bathrooms are super clean with multiple stalls. There is a free parking garage just across the street which was great! I ordered a hojicha latte, which was good but felt at $7 it was pricey. It wasn't anything extraordinary but I enjoyed having a comfy place to work and not having to worry about paying for parking or moving my car. I've recently tried a couple coffee shops in Portland that just left me disappointed and was surprised to find such a great cafe workspace in Salem and something I wish Portland had! To say Opening Day was a hit is an understatement! We had a group of seven and the line was out the door for a while. The owner came out several times thanking everyone for their patience. Before long there were open tables and several sat down to reserve a space while others held the line to place our orders. The decor gives a fun anime vibe, with music complimenting the theme. They nailed it with a mini Godzilla and Bonsai centerpiece on the large main table. Menu options were diverse enough to satisfy all of us; from the Teriyaki Chicken Kaiju Bowl, Tuna Poke Bowl, Spicy Salmon Onigiri, to the Iced Ube Matcha, Milk Tea Boba, Sapporo Japanese Lager, and even a N/A Asahi 0.0 Lager. It was definitely worth the wait after just missing the food carts at the market and a stroll through the blooms and festivities at the State Capitol Park. Thanks Bonsai! for the perfect wrap to a beautiful day in Salem.
