My first uber ride ever was done here in Ottawa, Canada. I had arrived here knowing that they…read morearen't allowed to do airport pick ups, so I intentionally had to walk 2km to the Hilton Garden Inn hotel to request the ride. True story. I had downloaded the app many months ago but held off trying uber until this trip. After trying to put in the credit card information in the app, I found out to be very very easy to use. I found the app to be very useful and very streamlined to the point where I just have to pick my location and let the driver know that I'm there. Uber and it's competition Lyft, is changing the way we do taxi services in the US and Canada. Although there are many assists is where politicians and government it do not like these companies from operating because of taxi lobbies against Uber, Lyft, and other ride share companies, I am glad that someone got the idea to come up with the idea for ridesharing services. It's a pretty cool idea and I like it very much. The overall experience of my first ride was very cool and I recommend it to anyone who needs ridesharing services. Taxis are just overpriced. I had some first time nerves using the app for the first time, I feel very much at ease now that I have an alternate way of getting around if I need it. Once I put on the pin and knew exactly where I wanted the driver to be I felt confident in my decision. However when the driver started to say that he was here (and i didn't see him) I kind of panicked. I quickly messaged him and everything was OK and I got to ride my first Uber. It was great. It was almost like catching a ride with a friend, but you'd pay less a lot less when you compare it to taxi services for sure. I guess that's why Uber and Lyft were created - to give more people choices rather than renting cars and taxis. My Uber driver was very friendly and we made small talk along the way. It was nice for him to guide me through the process of my first time using uber. Once the ride was done, he finished the ride and I got to rate him - out of 5 stars. There is no actual money that changed hands, although you could actually tip the driver in currency, if you decide on doing that too. Regardless of how I initially thought uber was and heard about in the news media, it's a great service - at least in the eyes of passengers. I'm not sure about being a driver, but that's not what this review is about. This uber driver's car was nice and maintained. I sat in the front seat and we had GPS to guide me to my final destination. It felt really nice not having to pay a lot for a taxi, which uber and Lyft is a fraction of what the taxi will charge you. It's crazy how taxi cabs can get away with. Kind of a rip off - at least with the tourists. My ride with uber costed $22 CAD compared to $42 with a taxi. My destination was in Gatineau, which I learned that neither Lyft nor Uber doesn't go, since it's in Quebec. So I had to get a taxi to go back to the airport to pick up my rental car. Ugh, that's harsh, but what can you do?! 5 stars for Uber! It's the great alternative to taxi cabs for sure. Support local! A++

I don't own a car. Gave it up when I moved downtown so I use a mix of rentals, taxis, sharing, bus,…read morefoot and bike. I started using Uber after they arrived in Ottawa and now use them several times a week. I am a fan and they have pretty much replaced my taxi use in terms of price, service and convenience. Pros - Cars are always clean and often pretty swanky . I had a BMW last week in Toronto. Drivers are always courteous and pleasant. Meeting lots of students, guys with young families, two jobs, etc. An ambitious group and usually fun to talk to. A nice change from the taxi driver on an endless cellphone call. I can usually get a car within five minutes of any point downtown or in the Glebe. The map on the app is great so you can see exactly where the cars are. Payment is super easy. No money changes hands. Your credit card gets charged and a receipt comes by email instantly. Price is about 40 percent cheaper than taxi, but I don't ride during high demand times when prices are higher. Cons - The drivers are good enough but they don't have the tricks and navigational savvy of a seasoned taxi driver. It's kind of like getting a lift from your neighbour. I get that Uber drivers don't pay the huge licensing fees required of Taxis and this seems unfair.!I think though that this is a reason to fix the anti competitive taxi monopolies. Give us better service, central dispatch for all companies and apps that work. Do this and many of us would return. In the meantime though, I Uber.

It's…read morecheaper, and if there is something wrong with the service it will be fixed as drivers care about their ratings and Uber takes responsibility. Blue Line is deceitful, incompetent, and outright disrespectful. I took a taxi from the airport to my hotel. I had a lot of luggage and was holding onto my backpack in the back seat, and the driver suggested that I put it in the front seat to give myself more space, which was nice. Note that I have no visibility of my bag now that's in the front seat as I'm in the back. Arrive at my hotel, pay the driver CAD 80 for a CAD 63 ride (a 27% tip) and grab all my luggage. After checking in, I realise my backpack is still in the cab. It's 530pm at this point. I call the taxi company. They try to find the driver / my bag. No success. Keep in mind the bag is in the front seat. It is highly unlikely that the driver hadn't noticed it by the time his shift was over. Takes 3 days for my bag to show up at the lost and found. I ask that the resolve this issue by sending the bag back to me, and they said can only send it back at my own cost - or I can go pick it up myself. Also, that I can't pick up from their office as it's closed the next two days (weekend). On Monday I call them again and ask to speak to a supervisor. Supervisor says the same thing, I have to pay a driver to take the bag to me or pick up the bag myself. Begrudgingly I ask them to send it back to me at my own expense, but to send it at 9pm as I'm not at the hotel. They tell me they have to send it back during office hours (???), even though I'm paying for it myself. We agree to have a car pick up my bag and drop it off at 5pm at my hotel. It doesn't get delivered. When I return to the hotel I call the service centre for an update at 11:15pm. They said they can deliver it to me in 10 mins (so they lied that they can't deliver outside of office hours). At 12 midnight (~45 mins later) I get my bag back, costing me CAD 60.86. Driver even has the nerve to ask for a 15% tip. After this ordeal, both the driver and company have had zero consequences while I've spent hours experiencing incompetence and a company with zero accountability that simply doesn't care about its customers.
