I'm not sure on the amount of stars to give my experience - I am new to the area, and don't have any other non-NYC cab experiences to compare it with. My fiance and I needed a cab. He somehow came up with Durham's Best. Well we got from point A to point B in a good amount of time. The driver was pretty good, his driving wasn't scary. But the actual cab? The actual car? Scariest car I have ever been in my life. It was an old NYC taxi, that actually still had documentation posted in it from when Guiliani was mayor. Yeah, not that long ago, but this cab was RUGGED. My window didn't close and my seatbelt didn't work... not awesome when you are traveling on the highway. There were also tears in the upholstery... kinda looked like an animal had mauled it. Well, at least it was clean, right? I'd rather it look mad beat-up than the seat be sticky or something. So they charge a $50 flat rate from Durham to Raleigh. I hope that's cheap compared to other cab companies around here... If I need another cab, I will probably try another company... read more

I'm from south Florida and have traveled many places across the world and the US, and I was not at all impressed by this place. I made my reservation online for a 7:30 am pickup. At 7:40 am, I called and they said "they never received the reservation". Even though I had a confirmation number in my email. The driver was fine and the car was clean. Typical cabby. They don't take card only cash - which was not told to me when I booked. I normally don't carry cash on me since I live in a city - but luckily I had some on me. read more

One of their cabs was coming around the loop in downtown Durham. The driver was not paying attention and was riding the white line. He started to drift into my lane and I tapped the horn to let him know I was there. The driver laid into the horn and followed on my bumper for two blocks laying into the horn. If that's the quality of their drivers why would anyone hire this company? I tried to contact the company with my complaint, but the comment section on their website is disabled and no one answered the phone at their corporate office. read more

Very poor service. I was told that because I was black I had to pay upfront. I said I that it was racist and I was asked to leave. I can not express this enough people. Last night my boyfriend and I used this taxi company to take us from the Southpoint area to Franklin St. in Chapel Hill around 6:30 PM. We were meeting friends to do a little bar-hopping and wanted to be responsible. Never in the course of scheduling the driver to come get us nor on the drive was any indication given that this wasn't okay. When we called back around midnight to get the return cab, no one would come get us as "Chapel Hill isn't in the normal area." WE WERE STRANDED IN CHAPEL HILL! If CH isn't part of the normal service, we should have been told this the first time. It is completely unconscionable to take someone's money and drive them to a location then not come pick them up. The driver called me twice before picking me up and accused me of not being where I was supposed to be. I didn't make the reservation; I business I was visiting did and I heard the lady say the exact location. Then he blamed it on the ethnicity of his dispatcher. When we arrived at the airport he encouraged me to pay cash; when I told him that I was using a card he would let me hold his tablet while signing then pulled it back when I was hitting the "text receipt" button. Needless to say I didn't receive the receipt. I've attempted to today (the next day) the dispatcher asked to call me back once I gave her info. Fine. Then she did and didn't leave a voicemail. I called back and got vmail...no return. I called again and asked for a supervisor. At first she said that she was then gave me a manager's number; I had to ask for his name. She never gave hers. Still no receipt and she wouldn't answer my question about it. Sigh..surprise, he didn't answer and I had to leave another message. This all on top of the bad experience with the driver, which I mentioned and she ignored. After the accusatory calls he turned out to be a BAD driver. There was a tire pressure light on constantly, we was driving with his brights on in traffic, he kept pushing on the gas to the point I got car sick, he would swerve in and out of lanes without signalling, he got into the left lane several times but went below the speed limit, and tried to get into other occupied lanes when in rush hour traffic...I could have touched the other car. Oh, did I mention the car was stained and even had crumbled food in the back? read more

I made an online reservation at 10pm the night before, which turns out is only an online request and no one actually looks at it, even though I got a "form submission" confirmation email. This morning, no one was there by 6:15 (requested time) so I called and they sent a guy, he honked at two different houses half a block down the street until I started flashing my porch light repeatedly. He needed me to tell him how to get back to American Drive, the street he had just turned off of. He sped in the rain and slammed on the brakes. He swerved while changing the A/C settings, swerved all over the highway including the rumble strip, didn't keep a safe distance in the rain, didn't use turn signals, and flipped off another driver. When he was turning onto a road and trying to beat an oncoming car, the tires spun and we skidded out, which either means the tires are too bald or he was taking too big a risk. Finally, he didn't have the means to take a credit card, he said he left his Square at home. When I told him I didn't have cash, he wanted to go into the terminal with me so I could go to an ATM and pay the ATM fee, which I didn't have time for since you were so late. Luckily, I found enough cash to barely cover my fare. Worst cab experience I have had across 11 countries. Will use Uber/Lyft/RDU Taxi in the future. read more

I was happy with this company and used them multiple times, as my Husband is a patient at Duke Regional. It is a short trip from my house to the hospital, but I always tip at least $5 or a tip equal to the fare. Cars are clean and drivers are kind. However yesterday 1/28/18 I was told there were no cabs available. I feel that on this weekend the person who took my call did not want to dispatch a driver for a short trip. I am not happy and will not use this company again. I am handicapped and needed this service. read more

This company has gone soooo far downhill! I've been bartending in Durham for 8 years and have always used/recommended this company bc they were always very nice and reliable. The past couple years however they have been super rude, half the time they don't even show up! I just had them tell me when I called to see where the cab I called was and they told me they canceled it bc they didn't want to drive out here! I told him a call to let me know that wld have been nice since I had people waiting and counting on the cab (who had called and confirmed) and the dispatcher hung up. This is why Uber and Lyft are taking over local business y'all!!! Customer service does matter. I went online to find a taxi from Duke. I saw this handout (https://studentaffairs.duke.edu/sites/default/files/taxis.pdf) and picked at random. In case it changes in the future, this is what it said for this company: "Flat fee of $25 from Duke campus to RDU. 15% discount for Duke affiliates." When I called, I asked to verify the price. The guy says "$30" so I mention that it says $25 flat rate to the airport online. I was going to just call another cab but the guy says that he'll do $25. Idiot that I am, I actually remember saying "Promise?" and he's like "I promise." Had I been thinking straight, I would have hung up then and chosen another company. Taxi arrives, I ask to verify the price, the driver says $30. I tell him that's not the agreed upon price and he starts just making tons of excuses and saying I must be confused. I call and talk to the same guy who answered the phone from the day before and he's just saying "$30" now. The driver even asks the price over the radio and the other guy responds "$30" like that somehow makes it even more official. This probably happens all the time. You get to the airport, you don't want any trouble, you vow to never take this cab again and you also refuse to give them any tip, but you hand over your $30. I don't like liars. read more

First, don't waste your time and book online, they will never show up! Second: Driver was on the phone all the way to RDU airport, speaking a foreign language. Third: Once at the airport he stood up looking instead of unloading our luggages. Finally, we asked the office if we can pay with a card and they said yes, but driver refused and insisted to take cash only! I detest such a service. read more

We had a set time for 1130 and our cab showed up at 1245 after 5 phone calls. They told us 4 times that a cab was on the way. Don't call if you want to be anywhere on time! This cab company sucks!!! We called for a van as we had 5 passengers and waited 30 minutes. The cab driver calls me when he arrives and I explain to him where we are waiting and he sounds confused and hangs up. I call back and he says he picked up other passengers "by accident" despite me being on the phone with him describing where to get us (we can see him), and then proceeds to hang up again. Subsequent calls go unanswered and we actually saw the cab drive away with random passengers. Cab #306. I will never be using this company again and nor should you. Arranged pickup for my daughter. They were 25 minutes early for the pick up and called and let me know they were there. My Daughters phone does not work here as it is from another, so, when I called concerned about her being picked up, the driver had her call me on his. Amazing! In sum, I requested a cab, received an email confirmation, called the company and received a verbal confirmation, and the cab did not show. I did attempt to call the cab company to see if the driver needed directions, but the company representative seemed confused. Then, I got a call from a driver about 15 minutes after the scheduled pick-up time, and he was at the wrong address. "Please know that our rates are regulated by the City of Durham, meaning they are the same as other local taxi companies. We would hate for you to spend your time searching for cheaper rates or worse, get dooped by illegitimate cabs or vehicles that offer different rates. We can assure you they are not inspected or certified by the City Inspector, or have the required insurance coverage." Laughable, to think these people claim to be legitimate is a joke. More times than not they have charged a flat rate based off of what the driver thinks the ride should cost, or how many people are in the car not based off the meter. Let me start by saying i am a loyal customer who pays very well everyday to driven back and forth...i am filing this complaint. On a cab driver whose cab number i believe is #97. On friday the 14th 2013 i called a cab at approximately 7:50 am. The cab arrived at about 8 o clock. For starters the cab driver called my phone and i to.d him i am coming down. I am 5 momths pregnant so it took me a little while to get down the steps. Meanwhile this cab driver is blowing his horn outside my house and acting very rude. I get in the cab. No goodmorning no how are u. But where are you going? Tis cab driver was so rude! So he drove and i sat in the bak in silence. We get to my destination and i handed him a 10 dollar bill and asked for change. I usually tip. I was a waitress for 7 years so i know how to tip. But this guy didnt deserve any money from me. He got angry because i asked him for change and said \"you dont have to ask me for change you were going to get change anyway.\" I sai d well i did so please give me my change. He again repeats his statement and gets louder. I said i dont know who you are talking to! Thats when he began to curse at me and i was so angry i opened the cab door and didnt even close it. He called me a bitch and called me a nigger. I, in my 25 years of life havenever been called a nigeer. Are these the type of peopleyou have driving your cabs? Worst cab experience ever. They were 30 minutes late and I had to catch a flight to the airport. Thank goodness I gave myself enough buffer time to still make it to my flight on time, but when I make a reservation a whole day in advance, I expect my cab to arrive on the dot. The cab drivers themselves were very nice and apologetic for the situation, but the dispatcher was a complete jerk and dishonest about the fact that he had Completely forgotten to book my reservation until 5 minutes after my reserved pickup time. At some point he just forwarded all calls to the driver and refused to speak to me. Bottom line: don't ever use this cab company. read more

If I could have left no stars I would have. Absolutely THE WORST! I called for a taxi to pick me up from Kroger after having done some grocery shopping. I'm in a wheelchair and when I requested assistance with unloading the driver MO refused to assist with the bags. He rudely commented, "That's not my job." I took a Durham's Best cab last Friday night and accidentally left my phone in it. I was stressing out the next day thinking I would never get it back. I called the Durham's Best phone number and they couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. One of the employees helped me track down my phone (literally drove me around and also called all his fellow drivers) and got it back to me that day. I am so thankful and such a fan of this cab company. Not only are they always on time, but they are also really nice people. Thanks Durham's Best! They often take a 'reservation' and then forget to send a cab. Not usually too terrible - unless you're trying to get to the airport for a flight! Also, dispatchers are incredibly rude. Stay away if you can! read more

Called a cab for my husband whos phone was dead they proceeded to tell me they cant pick him up without a contact number..I think thats a bunch of crap.. he works at a moving company and when work is over its over theres nowhere to plug a phone up he had just enough charge to call me and ask me to call for him..I called Horus Cab and they went and got him in 20 minutes! So needless to say if you are somewhere and youre phone goes dead youre just stuck! Its a shame read more

I just moved to the area and needed a cab back to Downtown Durham after dropping off my rental truck about 5 miles away. I called Durham's Best and the friendly dispatcher took my info and let me know a cab would be on the way. The car arrived promptly. (~8 minutes after the call) The driver couldn't have been more welcoming and offered me many tips about my new city. Points off only for the car showing some signs of 'wear and tear' but otherwise a great experience. read more

I have been using this company for five years. They are mostly reliable and quick, especially to and from downtown Durham. This weekend, however, we were picked up by Cab 97 who never turned on the meter and then tried to charge us double what our fare should have cost. It got a bit ugly, and we reported him to the company. So, I would say, use this company but ask not to be picked up by Cab 97. And make sure the meter is running from minute one. read more

A menace in the city. Constantly parking illegally around down town (in very clearly marked "No parking" areas. ) Never had an experience when they weren't rude when asked to move their cabs, so that people could access the parking lots and etc that were being blocked by their illegal parking. Most of the drivers have a limited English understanding, or at least pretend to not understand. I've also noticed several times in areas all over the city that they tend to drive extremely aggressively. read more
