I normally do not write reviews, but I feel obligated to warn others about my experience with Durham. While the work itself was acceptable, the behavior of one of the young men on the job site was absolutely unacceptable. I believe his name was Michael (no one properly introduced themselves, which already felt unprofessional). At one point, I personally observed him vaping on the job site. I did not feel comfortable confronting him directly, as I was alone in my home, but I was extremely disturbed. This is a workplace -- not a lounge. Additionally, the language used by him and one of the other boys was completely inappropriate. There was frequent cursing and slang that I would not expect from professionals representing a company inside a client's home. It made the entire environment feel uncomfortable and frankly disrespectful. When you hire a company, you expect a certain level of professionalism and decorum. Unfortunately, that standard was not met. I sincerely hope management addresses this issue because clients should not have to feel uneasy in their own homes. Very disappointed. read more

I felt like they were ripping me off in the spring. They said I needed a new condenser when I didn't and then they came out to do the maintenance again and that ended up changing wires and ended up shorting out the thermostat and then they wanted me to pay for the repair of putting in a new thermostat so I will never use them again and I don't think you should either after I told him that I felt like I'd get ripped off and I started getting mad. They told me that I should they will bring back my old thermostat and you could find somebody else to put it in. have used Durham & Sons on two separate jobs, and I am extremely pleased with both. The first job was to add an electric car charging outlet in garage. They were a little higher than others quoted but their timeliness and professionalism was revered. The second was a more complex project adding recessed lighting in master, living room, and outside patio as well as a pendent light. I wanted to shop around for best and has two others come out to quote the job. Others first quote was outrageous price and when I asked for a require to breakdown between the jobs to determine which lighting options were must haves since the price was so high. The new quote ended up being $600 more. Again, outrageous! This company also went on about how busy they were and alluded to the project wouldn't be able to be done for months due to their busy schedule and the heat (attic work). The second smaller father/son team were honest that the project was more than they could handle. Another company never showed to the appointment. So although my husband said Durham was higher priced, I reached out going with my instincts. I found Dunham to be significantly less the other quoted. They also scheduled a week later. One time and very pleasant. There were two gentlemen and they did a fantastic job delivering exactly as requested and putting their own careful consideration to make sure recessed lighting was aligned and made the most visual appeal. I had Durham & Sons install a new Trane Air Conditioner System. Things now are a lot more complicated than years back. I had many questions, at 74 some times I just "don't get it". The Boys and Girls at Durham had to put up with a lot of calls and dumb questions from me. They made sure I was completely satisfied. They installed window units to keep us Cool during the install. Would not recommend this company! I had a problem with my AC and they sent a tech out to fix it, he went to the air handler and felt the pipe at which point he said it was oily so there must be a leak, after using his leak detector for about 30 minutes he declared that it was just a leaky Schrader valve and then tightened it and put 5lbs of Freon in the system and gave me a bill for $367. He stated problem solved packed up and left. The next morning our AC was back at 78 degrees and not cooling. I called them back this morning and they sent another tech who looked the system over and said that the first guy had incorrectly diagnosed the leak and it was actually the high and low pressure lines that run from the main unit to the air handler but he would have to run another test that would be $590 and we would be without air for another day or to while he ran the test. I asked him if he could find no leaks in either the air handler nor the compressor or condenser what else could it be except the lines and he said nothing else, so I said why would we do a $590 test if we already know it's nothing else. Then I asked him if he ran this test and confirmed that this was the problem how long would it take for them to replace the lines and how much. His reply was that it would run around $1500-$2000 but they did not have the man power or ability to do the job until September. Obviously, we can't wait for a month or more to get it fixed. The tech was willing to charge me another $590 to do a test when he knew that he could not do the repair. He then suggested that perhaps I should call around and find another company that had the time to do this job. I asked if the company was going to give me a refund for the first payment I made for the failed repair and he told me I had to contact the office about that. I called and spoke with the owner Steve who told me that they have to pick and choose which customers the want to take care of based on how quickly they can finish the job and move on to the next one and our job would be to time consuming. I asked him how he could start a job that he had no intention of finishing if it turned out to be difficult, he had no response other than that's the way it is. I requested a refund for the initial visit being the job was not acceptable and his website states satisfaction guaranteed and he said he'd think about it and proceeded to hang up on me, Don't take a chance on them read more

Durham installed two Trane XV20 systems in my home about 5 years ago. Since it was getting colder out we started using one for heat. It threw an error code over the weekend. Called at 8AM Monday morning. Service tech arrived at 8:50 AM !!! Quickly found the problem; a loose sensor. All fixed and tested by 10 AM. Service tech "Tommy" was VERY knowledgeable and professional. Great experience !!! read more

Our old A/C died last year, and after careful consideration, we called Durham & Sons. We were not disappointed! Their representative walked us through all the options, and let us know about all the choices. They sell mainly Trane air conditioners for residential, and the rep let us know that the lowest-end Trane model was made in China, and didn't always meet the same reliability standards as their other models. This helped us inform our decision on our ultimate purchase. We are happy with the unit we purchased (I believe it was one-up from the low end), and have had zero issues. Also, I was pleasantly surprised when they called to remind us we were due for annual A/C maintenance, and when I called to schedule, she informed us that the first year's check-up was free! I should also mention, before our old unit gave up the ghost, we used Durham & Sons a couple times to keep that old 15+ year-old A/C running until we could save up to replace it. We had some renovations in progress and noticed a couple rooms suddenly didn't have power partially and with wires from removed fixtures hanging from freshly painted ceilings, we were worried something was wrong. Durham and Sons was the only one who's emergency line was actually working on the holiday and they sent Richie out to us. He was very nice and prompt. No hot water for 2 days so I called yesterday to make an appointment and was told they would be here today around 3... I received a call at 7:56 am this morning stating that "he doesn't go that far anymore... sorry." They should have known that yesterday when I called! I called for an outdoor refrigerator plug and was told all I needed to do was upgrade my GFCI to 20a. Mid install Rich the technician stated "this will probably not work" and I may need a dedicated circuit ran through the attic. He also state last week and it didn't work on another clients refrigerator. The company charged $208.93 for a plug that doesn't work for what we asked for that took then 5 minutes to install. Then I was told they will send me an a quote for the correct job needed. Very unethical! read more

My rented condos ac quit cooling so I called Durham for service. I requested a quote for cleaning too but was told they would have to see it first. The technician arrived promptly. He quickly found breaker tripped and a dirty filter. Pressures were good and condenser was checked as well. He did not recommend a coil cleaning at this time (which saved me $$). This is the second time since I have owned my home that Durham & Sons have come out to perform maintenance on my AC. Both times have been a pleasure. Usually when a company says they're going to arrive between 8 & 9, I always expect they actually mean 9:30, but not Mike. He arrived at 8 sharp and had completed my maintenance within the hour. My AC drain line had been getting stopped up intermittently for months. I called the initial contractor but they couldn't get anywhere. I called Durham and Sons - Mike came out and took a lot of care using super hot water and bleach to break loose what looks to be about a cup of calcium deposits - my AC is draining beautifully. Thanks to Mike for being a bulldog on this and sticking with it through the solution. Plus he's a very personable guy to boot. Called due to AC not working very well at sons house in Florida. Apparently they are very busy but I was fortunate that they had a service representative that was not too far from the house. They sent him to the house on his way home for the day. The rep discovered the fan blower fell apart into many pieces. The next day in the afternoon Durham called and gave me a fair price on replacing the fan and motor. though they were not sure if this motor and fan would entirely fix the AC's poor performance. I asked for a replacement cost. Unfortunately they would not be able to give an estimate and a replace the unit for a few days. Me coming from the North the next day needs a working AC system. I was able to find another place to give me a price and replaced the unit the following day. Durham & Sons were great for the service they provided. Their charge for their service call was price right. The representatives on the phone were friendly and helpful. This must be why they are so busy. read more

Never use. Have had on-going problem for months. They don't return calls. Even owner has not returned call. Vent in spare room too small so room warm. Hall vent near bedroom sings loudly whenever air comes on. They use excuses rather than fixing. They are not the only problem. The bigger problem is with Trane, a supposedly 5 star company. We spent thousands on this poorly designed system and it does not work properly and it's only 2 years old. Talked directly to Trane. One problem is the door to unit is plastic and is cracked and warped. If the door does not fit properly, the unit does nt work right. So...under warranty Trane wil replace door right? No go. Trane said, "the door is not part of the actual system so not covered". Thanks Trane. Bet you have saved a bundle since probably every door on every system you sold like this has cracked. The door is not the only problem. The system is just not working right. Trane does not want to do anything. Full of excuses. Saying there's no insulation. Well, yes, there is insulation. Not the top grade but good enough for their system to be working. A really good company which we thought Trane was would be replacing the whole system under the warranty. read more
