I'm not keen on giving a negative review to a local business, but unfortunately my experience with Jason was quite poor (in fact, in never even really started). My partner and I initially talked with Jason on the phone, then had a pleasant (and free) kickoff meeting on 9/6. We agreed that he'd help our small business out with some Quickbooks work, which he estimated would take him half a day and he'd have bandwidth to begin after a 9/15 tax deadline. He made it clear that he set expectations and always communicates when expectations cannot be met (giving the example of going over the amount of hours that he estimates). We handed off a backup of our books and looked forward to seeing his work. However, time started to pass by, and we didn't hear from Jason in the days following 9/15. Actually, we didn't hear from him at all until we asked for a status update some two weeks after we expected work to start on 10/2. He didn't reply to an initial voicemail, so we followed up with an email the next day, to which he replied: "I am so sorry. I have been completely slammed since 9/1. After finishing the 9/15 deadline it has been a dead sprint to finish all individuals in preparation for the 10/15 deadline. I am sorry to report I have not even been able to begin...will not have time to start it until after 10/15. I have no time into it so if you would rather I destroy the backup disk you left me and not do any work on it I completely understand" We sent an email stating that we still hoped to work together but he wasn't meeting our expectations; on 10/11 we received our CD via mail with apologies for not meeting expectations and terminating the relationship. Jason didn't meet his commitments and didn't communicate even as he fell weeks behind. There's also evidence in other Yelp reviews that he was accepting other new accounts during this timeframe (while neglecting our own account). As such, I caution against using Durante and Associates (or minimally protect yourself by keeping tight deadlines and follow up with him frequently in case he does not follow up). read more

I had my first meeting with Jason last week and feel great about working with him! He was personable on the phone and in the office I felt comfortable talking with him about the books and my business (the present state and a little about where I want to go with it). His initial remarks and questions were on point and friendly. The recommendations he made are reasonable and I have some confidence in executing them. This is a big deal for an entrepreneur, especially when it comes to keeping the books, and paying the taxes! YEAH! read more

I hate negative reviews. I hate writing them even more. However, with the important subject matter, money and taxes, I have to say something. I started using Jason years ago. He did me and my husband's personal taxes for many years. He helped us navigate joint taxes, and into our legal marriage. Unfortunately, when Jason started doing taxes for my business things fell apart. Deadlines we missed, fees accrued, and calls from the IRS started. While not ideal, I had faith in Jason to support me, helping me through this rough patch. Well, here I sit in 2015 and have paid my new accountant to clean Jason's mess for 2013. I feel Jason is a good guy and means well, he is just in over his head. If you need your personal taxes done, he is your guy. If your needs are for your business, I might look elsewhere. I found Durante and Associates through Yelp and I am really glad that I did! Jason was able to help me at the last minute after my last accountant left me in a bind and wasn't returning emails. I have an LLC and Jason explained everything that would be needed for my taxes in laymen's terms (important if you don't know anything about WA state tax law), he was able to file extensions for my taxes and get everything done. Not only did he get everything done, but he also found an abnormality with one of my client's payments and he was able to contact them and correct the situation for me, which was amazing! He was able to walk me through everything that he did as well and he answered all of my questions to make sure that I understood everything that went into my filing for my small business. Jason is extremely easy to work with, he is calm and collected (even when you're not) and he is honest and up front, which I truly appreciated. I couldn't be more pleased with the experience I had while dealing with Jason Durante. At the beginning of the year my computer decided to quit working and I lost ALL of my tax history for 2010. I'm self employed so that meant huge loss on my part...on top of that I'm expecting my first child in the beginning in May and the last thing I had time to do was stress about my taxes! Jason and his associate Chelsea helped me get through the painful process of reentering all my records and made it simple and easy on me! They kept assuring me everything would come together and it did! They are amazing and I am extremely thankful for their professional and friendly approach to their business ethics. Do not, under any circumstances, use Durante & Associates. Non-responsive to emails & voicemails (never picks up his phone); made 3 major multi-thousand dollar mistakes with the IRS on my business returns. I had to show up at his door recently after repeated attempts by me and my new accountant to get my 2015 tax preparation documents (mistakes he made on that return). He never apologized or showed any remorse or excuses. He just shrugged and said, "I'm busy," when I asked him why he wouldn't reply to my repeated requests for information and help. I'm reporting him to the WA State Board of Accountancy. This guy is unprofessional, unethical and morally bankrupt. read more

I really would like to give a positive review here. I live in West Seattle and my wife and I were pleased to find an accountant nearby. My wife has a small business and we worked with Jason for one year. We found Jason to be personable and felt he did a good job on our federal taxes for one year. A few months later my wife became concerned about state b&o taxes after reading about the requirement. In my opinion this is a topic that any acountant should automatically raise with small business clients without prompt. Not only was the topic not automatically raised, her query was met with dead air. Several phone calls and emails over the next few months went unanswered. FOUR months later, after the due date had passed, Jason finally bothered to return a call. He gave her the forms, but by then a penalty was due. We feel this is unacceptable and are no longer clients of Jason's. read more

Would have given 10x more stars if I could. Jason came to our rescue last month when we received a dreaded IRS CP2000 letter re our 2010 tax return. Their figures did not match ours and we were about to be charged many $$$s in tax, fees & fines. Found Jason here on Yelp and from recommendations on the West Seattle Blog. Called in a panic and Jason calmly peeled me down off the ceiling, patiently and efficiently took charge, solved the misunderstanding and responded to the IRS on our behalf. Cannot thank him enough or recommend him more highly. Of course, we have already had him do this year's return. No more panic :) read more

I found Jason to be judgmental of my personal-financial relationships (ie, not being legally married, helping family members). Because I wasn't "cookiecutter" or didn't conform to "his model of life" I apparently wasn't credible, even though I've been a businessperson for 25 years and had a reputable CPA for nearly 20 years until he retired. In addition to a short list of backup information that I AGREED to provide him - he INSISTED that I waste valuable time re-listing my business expenses on a new sheet of paper for the illogical reason that he wanted to make sure "I" wrote it. My box of organized documents that I got my totals off of were right there, but he was only interested in forcing me to go through this senseless exercise. I pleaded with him to have mercy, since I too am in a busy time at work. I suggested that I sign the sheet I wrote the figures on. No, only tyranny would work for Jason. We parted ways at that point. I do not recommend anybody to him unless they fall into his perfect model (and sorry, I can't tell you what that is, only that I apparently don't fit it) . We went to him based on his good review... boy were we disappointed! He had our tax info for months, had to file an extension as April came and went, then went on vacation without letting us know! Finally he said he couldn't even do them! Wow. I have no idea how he got such a high rating. read more
