Living up in the mountains of northern California, sometimes the unexpected happens. I came down my…read moredirt road to find an approximately 18" tree fallen across the roadway. I made the mistake of trying to go around and ended up a little off the road, but any further attempts were going to slide me into a tree. Fortunately a neighbor found me and chainsawed the tree out of the way. Still, I had to find a way off the side of the road where I was stranded. A longtime auto-club member, I called the roadside emergency service and a competitor of Fred's was sent out. The man was rude and barely tried to help me. From the beginning his attitude was extremely negative and deteriorated into flat out mean. He gave an anemic, seconds-long try, and pronounced it impossible. Then, he left without the courtesy of even letting me know that I was on my own. Long saga cut short, I was referred to Fred's Towing. The service man who arrived had a less-than-90-day employee, still in training, with him. They were able to recover my car in under twenty minutes. "Piece of cake," they both said. Needless to say, Fred's Towing saved the day and it will be my go-to wrecker or tow-truck service provider wherever I am in Siskiyou County.

Splash & Dash in Yreka is clean, reasonably priced, and run by owners who seem nice. The wash…read morequality is good, and the facility itself is well maintained, which I've always appreciated. What keeps me from coming more often is the way they block the machine and insist on taking your card and doing the simple self administered machine and payment for you. Even if you already know what wash you want or have a monthly membership, they still walk up to your window and start talking so you have to roll it down. I once asked the owner why they do this and explained that I and many others don't like it, she became very defensive, saying people don't know how to use the machine and I find this reason ridiculous in this day and age. For me, the whole process feels unnecessary and frustrating. I prefer a quick, self‑serve experience, and it's especially inconvenient when I have dogs in the car who immediately start barking when someone approaches. I'd genuinely visit more often if they simply let customers use the machine on their own.

They encouraged me to rent a car from the Hertz dealer which was in the same office space (suspect!). Left with no option we signed their estimated work order and rented a car. Over the course of the next EIGHT DAYS we never got a call when they thought it would take longer than originally planned. They didn't even call us when our car was done being worked on! When I went to pay for it they over charged me by $148 which I didn't realize until I looked at the papers after I had already drove off. I went back and they KNEW they over charged me cause the receptionist (Jennifer) said with a smile, "Yeah that price didn't sound right. Oh yeah, our computer says you only approved $*****. I'll get you refunded." And she kept making excuses for why I couldn't see a supervisor. SOO many problems with this place and I don't trust anyone there. Avoid at all cost!
