I requested the creole sauce on the side as I wasn't sure what I was getting. I was pleasantly impressed with the "sauce" which was some of the best gumbo I have had. My husband had the coconut shrimp and was equally impressed. Our server was fun and knowledgeable, she let me know ahead that theirs was not your typical southern shrimp and grits. She was attentive without being too much. We love the atmosphere, the tables are not on top of each other and the decor was fun! We will definitely be back.

Lucky Moose (DuPont & Coldwater Roads) - big menu, seeming less flavors that I would expect…read more I have visited the Lucky Moose three times in the last 5 months. I have not posted as I have been collectively evaluating their products. The Lucky Moose is located in a strip mall on the south side of DuPont road across from Kroger. Most times there is plenty of lot parking. Though this can be a challenge on busy dine out nights when Ziano's, Cebolla 's and the Moose are busy. At times Lucky's has had a good 30 minute wait. I think this is less likely since Union Social opened up the street. The Moose has a very large and diverse menu. There is something for everyone. The service always seems to be friendly. The restaurant is fairly large with a smaller bar area. I personally find the booths, that seat four, to be somewhat small. This can be uncomfortable if you have have four adult diners. On this visit we started with the fried veggie basket. This, like other appetizers I've ordered here recently, seem to come out deeply fried and tough in texture. The inside veggies were soft and fresh. The pieces weren't very big. The breading was thick and slightly oily to taste. Overall, you don't get much flavor to go along with the thick, hard and a bit oily breading. My wife had the fish tacos. She said they tasted fresh. No fishy taste. She noted that the tacos lacked seasoning that would help distinguish this Lucky Moose product. This characterization is somewhat typical of other entrees I had here. The Lucky Moose has a good variety of selections that can be made into a pizza or flat bread (see attached picture). This option was about $16. The menu says it takes about 29 1/2 minutes to make. The waitress said to plan on 40 minutes - just be aware, which was okay with me! This pizza is a "deeper" dish pizza. I'm not sure I would call it true deep dish as that implies a style with certain expectations. This was really just a really thick pizza served in a deep dish style pan. The crust tasted like a biscuit. I'm not sure if that is unique to this more southern BBQ style dish or if all pizzas have this type of biscuit crust. I was really expecting a more traditional pizza style dough taste. The worst part of the crust was that it came out REALLY hard when eaten hot and fresh. This was so hard that I had toncutbitbwith a knife. This was very different as left overs which I will explain later. The sauce was a very mild BBQ flavor. It had a moderate amount of sweetness and very little spiciness. Not bad. The down side here is that the sauce dominated the chicken and cheese taste when served fresh and really hot - but not that way as left overs. The hot BBQ sauce was so prevalent that I couldn't detect any smoked chicken flavors. The mozzarella cheese flavors got buried in the hot temperature BBQ sauce also. Overall, I was not pleased with my dinning selection. However, this somewhat changed when it became leftovers. Cold Pizza Test - I normally save some pizza to eat for breakfast. My preference is to eat it without being reheated. However, this is a deeper dish product. So I microwaved the pizza, that had been refrigerated for about 32 hours, for 45 seconds. During this time the BBQ sauce "soaked" into the crust and really softened it up. The sauce took a back seat to the chicken and cheese. I could now detect a nice Smokey flavor in the moist chicken. The mozzarella now thickened and provided that nice bed of cheese that you'd expect on a pizza. The 45 second reheated product was very tasty. A softer crust and mild BBQ flavors that enhanced the chicken and cheese. I believe the dramatic difference was due to the overly hot temperature by which the original pizza was cooked. Just my opinion. You visit and make your decision.

I am reviewing YOLO for their wedding services as well as Early Bird for their VIP package. These…read moreservices were rendered in July 2013, with contact starting in May/June 2012. I do not remember how I found YOLO, but when I did, I knew it was the place I wanted to have our wedding reception. The owners have taken the time to really make the space upper-class and trendy. I felt my guests were going to experience the best Fort Wayne had to offer. Kristen was our contact from day one and she was always on top of her game. She was there for me for months as I was debating if we should go to this spot or not, there for the 15 times I changed the menu and even there on my wedding day. As an owner, I was quite impressed with her for taking so much time and care into our day. Kristen was good with communication, especially as we became closer to our wedding date. She also was great in allowing us to come in early for setup. YOLO was a dream for me because I got a lot of features in one deal. Uplighting was included, I didn't have to search many places for a caterer (in-house), large space, linens/silverware/glassware/dishware included, color choices for linens... They were not very restrictive in what we could not do like other venues. We received a discount from the hotel across the street as well, which became our wedding hotel. I was happy with all that. And plus, the cost for YOLO was very reasonable. We were open with many people on how much we paid and they were shocked. YOLO worked with us on a payment plan and was flexible with us as we changed features, which impacted cost. I love they had a child's option, which brought down costs. As stated above, having a lot of flexibility was the reason I went with YOLO. We had to have Trolley's catering, but we were allowed to go with anyone for the rest. Trolley's was good and everything we had was great. You could tell Trolley's had a great relationship with YOLO and wanted to impress their clients. On the day of our wedding, our food was great and guests had only great things to say. Another thing that sets YOLO apart was the fact they have a nightclub attached to the venue. As a result, they had (not sure if this still applies now) packages that include your wedding reception and a discount on the nightclub package. We were able to get a VIP section for 50% off, a great deal. This was a major highlight of our wedding, as we had a morning service and lunch reception. We were happy to have a cost effective option where we and our guests could still party the night way. At Early Birds, we had a large section set aside for us with good barside service. I think we got more bottles and alcohol, then we expected. We were suppose to be in a VIP room within the club, but we were given an option to have an outside section... We choose outside as it was a beautiful July night. Again, YOLO being open with flexibility was great. There was not much to complain about with YOLO. When I had issues with them, I told them and they either told me how they would address it or why they could not do it. They are clear, at things blunt, but all and all fair. There were times when I felt communication could have been better, but I was such an early planning bride, I felt Kristen dealt with me the best that she could. If we had to do it again, I would still pick YOLO. They did a great job and we had a memorable wedding day. ***My only advise to couples considering this venue is 1) Being mindful if your photographer has done photos in dark settings. YOLO is dark with NO natural lighting. I liked this for our wedding, but had to be mindful to view the work of photographers that had worked in this setting. I think my photographer even went to YOLO to get a feel of the lighting. 2) Take down was not a part of the package, so make sure you plan accordingly or you/your wedding party will be completing this task.
