Most comprehensive dental visit I have ever had, also the best! As a 40-something who has had braces in my youth, I've had lots of dental and orthodontic experience as a patient. Got to say, as a new patient to the practice, Greg Penney and his staff really impressed me with my first two visits. The level of knowledge, professionalism, and thoughtfulness experienced here have raised my level of respect for the dental profession. Geeezz !!!! That Robert T. guy from Lake Placid must have been under the effect off "second hand" Nitrous Oxide [Laughing Gas] !!!! I believe he HAD TO HAVE just confused dental practices somehow !!! I can certainly empathize with a father's concern about "bogus fillings" having a 12 year old son myself. My whole family has been under the care of Dr. Dunkling for 5 years now! My 12 year old is currently in long term orthodontist care recently requiring 5 BABY TEETH EXTRACTIONS to make room for the permanent teeth trying to "sprout" and causing "mayhem" in the mouth with "crowding" and "crooked" teeth! Well, Dr. Dunkling just did ALL 5 EXTRACTIONS SIMULTANEOUSLY YESTERDAY mid afternoon and the kid is IN SCHOOL TODAY !!! This Doctor IS THE BEST DENTIST I HAVE EVER HAD in my 65 years opening my mouth in a dental chair !!! I came to him 5 years ago after my dentist retired and the dentist who bought that practice recommended that I see an orthodontist, DR. Chaira in Burlington. I found out later Dr. Chaira was a mentor to this young dentist [who succeeded my previous dentist who also had just received her doctorate]. Well after 6 months or so with an OUT OF POCKET INVESTMENT of $4000+ invested [lacking any kind of payment plan to boot that dramatically drained our savings], there was a BIG FAT ZERO result after a bucket load of of diagnostics and an "APPLIANCE" that kept "failing" [the simple physics of such couldn't have possibly worked trying to replace 2 molar spaces [that were extracted years before due to a failed root canal that caused a 6 year sinus infection in the process], that even broke in my mouth [without chewing] AND I SWALLOWED IT !!! Distraught, suffering with chronic TMJ pain ergo chronic headache, I turned to Dr. Paul Dunkling for help! It was too late for implants without surgery due to the fact the sinus floor had "dropped down" on the upper right inside of my mouth with no teeth there to keep the sinus cavity in place. Dr. Dunkling designed a custom designed "partial" denture to the rescue, filling in that gap, that I wear to this day relieving the TMJ pain and therefor lessoning the intensity of the chronic headache [ I suffer with other non dental related symptoms from a long term chronic illness]. In the complete process of Dr. Dunkling's DENTAL RECONSTRUCTION, including teeth bonding and needed crown replacements and additions; over about a year or so [subsidized by our dental insurance and Dr. Dunkling's Care Credit option payment plan WITHOUT INTEREST when paid off in full within a year or so] I AM ECSTATICALLY HAPPY WITH THE RESULTS AND WORKING WITH DR. DUNKLING, HIS ENTIRE STAFF, AND HIS OFFICE ENVIRONMENT !!! 5 Stars IS NOT ENOUGH !!! I have been a dental patient while living in 3 different states employing a multitude of Dentists! I have been living in Vermont for 22 years seeing healthcare practitioners in western, eastern, "northern and southern", allopathic, alternative, integrated, and complementary practices !!! Not only is PAUL DUNKLING THE BEST DENTIST I HAVE EVER HAD, BUT THE BEST DOCTER I HAVE EVER KNOWN AND AN OUTSTANDING HUMAN BEING !!! DR. Paul Dunkling and his staff's care, concern, compassion, empathy, and professionalism is a CREDIT TO NOT ONLY THE PROFESSION OF DENTISTRY, BUT TO MEDICINE IN GENERAL !!! I am a well seasoned, experienced "professional patient" in the greater Burlington, VT area extending to New Hampshire and NYC for treatment for a life threatening illness. In this age of a capitalized, hijacked healthcare system; the more than common indifference displayed by a plague of Dr. god's, whose attitudes too often view a patient with less empathy than a mechanic trouble shooting an engine problem. TL;DR: They told me I'd be 100% covered, and ended up charging me almost $400. AVOID! The very long version: My insurance covers in-network doctors at 100%, out-of-network doctors at 80%, so when Dr. Dunkling came in excited that it had been long enough since my last x-ray that insurance would cover it, I declined, knowing I'd have to pay 20% and would rather wait another month or so until I could see an in-network doctor. But the hygienist, dentist, and administrative assistant all came into the examination room and insisted that x-rays are covered 100%. I shouldn't have trusted them. My insurance required additional paperwork to get it from 80% to 100%, and either the dentist or the patient could file it, but when I called Dunkling's office they told me to do it myself. Then it turned out Dunkling charged $370 more than my in-network rate, and I had to pay all of it. When I called the dentist office, they told me they don't have payment plans and asked me "can't you just have your parents pay for it?" I can't even say how insulting that was. So, this place is fine if Mommy & Daddy will pay your bills, but if not, maybe choose a dentist who's honest and transparent about how much their services cost you. read more

I used the Dunk years ago, he did all this dental work (several fillings) on my 5 year old. He checked me, and found I needed 4 fillings, which we had no time for, so I set up another appointment which I never got around to. Then,time went by (no problems or pain), but nevertheless I got worried and figured I better get my teeth checked. Went to another dentist in the region I had relocated to, THREE years later. He found only one small filling was needed!! Still today 10 years later no additional fillings needed. Made me wonder about my five year old. Did he really need all that work. Feel like going back there and knocking his teeth out!! read more
