Dr. Averill came highly recommended by a colleague, in fact I think she recommended him about…read moretwenty times before I actually went. I have a pretty horrific dental history. It's littered with all sorts of budget botch jobs and terrifying experiences. Since my absolute NEED to visit Dr. Averill was indisputable, my enthusiasm to test the skills and demeanor of another dentist was pretty much non-existent. When I began to have symptoms of infection I was told by a Doctor friend that this could affect my over all health and that a substantial amount of strain was being put on my heart... yeah, that's a very real thing. I decided to call Dr. Averill's office. The sheer joy and warmth offered by Johanna, Dr. Averill's receptionist had me feeling confident and ready to take on my fears, of course when the appointment drew closer I ended up canceling. It took me about 3 cancellations until I eventually made an appointment that I showed up for, and while it was a formidable challenge for me I am eternally grateful that I mustered to courage to follow through. There are a few free parking spots designated for the office right across the street in the Pearl Street Beverage parking lot, there are also metered spots along the street. When you enter the office you will be greeted by the same bubbly voice who made your appointment, Johanna. She's bright and candid, like a character from a book, always greeting patients with an ear to ear smile while she taps aways on her computer. The office is small and the staff is pleasant and really connects with clientele. The wait is always short, sometimes they just usher you right into the chair; they seem to keep to their appointment times very well. It's not an inexpensive venture, going to see the dentist just isn't going to be, but when you get genuine care and compassion from a dentist the expense grows a bit irrelevant. I have saved and saved just so that I can continue my care under Dr. Averill. His patience and willingness to understand my challenges has completely reversed my fear of going to the dentist. His assistant, Dixie is nothing short of a godsend. She has a vast knowledge of all things dentistry and is happy to help you understand any part of a procedure; she also happens to be one of the most empathetic women I have ever met. Dr. Averill developed a laundry list of oral procedures that were essential to the health of my mouth, and we quite simply tackled them one at a time, starting with the most crucial and working our way through. It took a while, but now, after years of suffering, I am finally in good oral health. Having a dentist (and dental staff) that you feel open and comfortable with really is what made this all come together. The care I receive at Dr. Averill's office is of the highest caliber. He takes the time to truly understand you, his concern feels genuine and his acumen is simply remarkable. I would recommend this office to anyone and particularly to people who have been victim of substandard dental procedures or have a fear of returning to the dentist. I have recommended a few others to visit Dr. Averill as well and their experiences have all been similar to my own. Pulling myself together and visiting 239 Pearl Street was the beginning of the end to my dental complications, hands down, best... decision... ever.

I love going to the dentist. I love getting the gunk scraped off, I love getting my teeth polished,…read moreand I even enjoy getting cavities filled. Why? Because Dr. Blanck and his amazing group make it so easy to love--it always feels like I'm at a spa. Full disclosure, I have been a patient with Dr. Blanck for a solid 22 years. The last 5-6 have been inconsistent but even when I lived in China, I pretty much came back to Dr. Blanck (sans insurance) for a cleaning and checkup. Reasons why I gush about him: 1. He is the calmest person you will ever meet. I remember when I was 6 or 7 and had to get cavities done, he made the entire process extremely comfortable. I was never ever afraid to put my teeth in his hands. 2. He always tells you what needs to be done and puts you first in any suggestion he makes. His recommendations are alway provided with sound reasoning but he always always knows that the end decision is yours and no one else's. He will never push for a procedure when it's not needed and certainly not to make more money. 3. His staff love him. That's all you need to know. They enjoy working with him, the office atmosphere is always friendly and family-like. He seems to choose the most competent people for dental assistants and technicians. Many for his staff have been there since I was in elementary school. Enough said. *side note on staff: I love them. They are an amazing group of people and actually take time to ask you questions, answer those you have and just plain give a darn! 4. He is just so darn sweet. 5. He has two office locations!! I could seriously gush about him and his office to you all day long but I didn't realize how lucky I was to have such a great dentist until recently when I got too busy to come up to vt for a visit. Long story short, although the work at other places may be decent, the quality of care and dental work itself does not compare to that of Dr. Blanck's. If this review leaves you with more questions, please please feel free to contact me. Be forewarned: I will continue gushing about him so you might as well just book that appointment! Great for all ages!

Now a heads up to patients with hypermobility/Ehlers-Danlos, and to…read morepatients with depression/anxiety for whom having to manage doctors' emotions for them is a barrier to care. Dr. Pinto has multiple patients with EDS, and puts in the time and effort to adjust her care for the ways the disorder impacts tooth and gum health. Finding my nerves for filling replacement has always been a trial for dentists. As is common in EDS, I go through anesthesetic quickly and variably depending on anaesthetic type and dose. I've worked closely with Dr. Pinto to figure out how to get me numbed up effectively. I also want to give a shout-out to her straightforwardness in working with patients with severe anxiety and depression. It's really common to have to expend precious energy reassuring medical professionals who are uncomfortable with the idea of depression/anxiety. (This is a significant boundary to medical care for folks dealing with these issues.) Not so with Dr. Pinto. Upon learning about the depth of my partner's profound depression/anxiety, all she had to say was "you're on meds? You're working with professionals? Good. So about your teeth..." And that was it. No pity, no fear, no need to manage her emotions and expectations. Again, five stars, A+, best sustained dentistry experience of my life, recommended to everyone who will sit still long enough for me to tell them about her.
