I used to frequent the Wallingford location many years ago, so when I found out they opened a location in Middletown, I just had to go. My wife and I stopped here yesterday morning (a Wednesday) and got in and out super quickly. I kept it simple and ordered a glaze donut as well as a chocolate sprinkles donut and boy oh boy, I think Neil's has one of the best chocolate sprinkles donuts I've ever had. The top of the donut was completely covered and the dough on both donuts were so soft and delicious. Overall, Neil's Donuts is a dang gem and one of the best things Connecticut has to offer and such a great place. It looks like a cozy little donut shop, the staff have always been super friendly whenever I was here, and the food here it top notch and dang good. If you want a donut, this is the place you are gonna need to come check out.

I opted for the apple cider, sour cream and chocolate sprinkles and also got a large iced coffee. The large iced coffee seemed a bit on the small side compared to Dunkin or McDonald's iced coffees. It was good so no complaints on the quality. The donuts were very good, the sour cream was my favorite of the three. You can tell the owner takes pride in making the donuts. While Neil's donuts is still the king of donuts for me, the whole donut is definitely right up there. I will be stopping by again in the future.

Decided to hunt down a few different locations and this one popped up in the hunt. Location is a small space in a little plaza. Staff was friendly, recommended the strawberry donut. Price was 2 bucks a donut, so towards the higher side. Donut was fresh, dense with a heavy sugar shell and a strong artificial strawberry flavor. Not bad, but I prefer the lighter yeasty style donuts than the denser, sugar laden ones. As a local donut shop, it's good. The quality is there, but the donuts are not my style. They are good classic dunker style doughnuts though.

Their filled doughnuts don't have a little squirt of filling piped in the end, they split them and generously fill each one. Yes, they are extremely busy, parking can be a little exciting and the line is usually out the door but it's organized, the customers know the drill and behave and the counter staff is well trained and fast; patient too for the indecisive of us. I have only been to the Wallingford one but there is a second Neil's in Middletown, not at all too much of a good thing!.

Going inside, it's a bit on the dark side with a man working on a laptop with a large dog in a dog bed next to him. The cashier behind the counter was a bit groggy with the morning, short in temper but helpful. I opted for a simple black coffee of their Brazilian light roast. Coffee was bright and bold. Strong and not watery, but no strong fruity notes I usually associate with a light roast. Very good, and would make a great base in a latte. They do offer lattes but the menu for those required me to look over the man and dog combo which was a bit awkward. It's good coffee but the morning was not favorable for my visit.

Although I am done for that vibe all year long and clearly the popularity of Perkatory proves I am not alone. Even being later in the day this place was busy with lots of groups hanging out enjoying the space. Being a coffee roaster they had lots of different beans you could take home too which is always a plus. Besides the vibes, the drinks my wife and I got were fantastic as well! Staff were friendly and drinks took no time whatsoever. My wife went an Iced Lavender Latte (w/ Oat Milk) while I went with a seasonal special of the Iced Pumpkin Spice Latte. We arrived to an empty parking lot and were greeted by calm and atmospheric music. Our attendant/cashier was peaceful and patient as we looked through the menu and took our time. Our order was taken care of and served within 15 minutes, the food had been ready. We enjoyed our meal. Their Korean Corn dogs were fresh, flavorful and delicious. The Hazelnut Latte we ordered was balanced and also delicious. The tables were clean and the overall vibe of the place was aesthetically pleasing. So being in the area, decided to come here and pick up some donuts for the ride home. We got here late in the day, and they were out of almost everything when I got there. I managed to get a churro and matcha donut. I then saw they did a Dubai chocolate strawberry cup, and had to give that a try as well ( they only do the cup on the weekends) The donuts were very fresh, light and chewy. They are high in price but much better in quality compared to other places I've tried. The Dubai strawberry cup had a kind of weak chocolate sauce over them. Not the cheapest stuff on the market, but not strong or mellow like the expensive chocolates. The strawberries were fresh, and the Dubai part needed a little salt to counteract the sweet and enhance the earthy. Inside is well decorated but dirty. All the tables were dirty, there's lots of dust and other ditritus when I was waiting for my dessert. It was end of day, so I get why they would not be fully clean. But there's some repairs that need to get done and there's cracks in the facade. Despite the lack of donuts, the quality was good and the Dubai strawberries were a nice sweet treat. Today was maybe the kickoff to harvest month and some events. IT WAS PACKED. Not to worry, everyone was civilized and there were plenty of attendants. Lots of parking all over. SERVICE Everyone to a person was ready for this crazy rush. Filled with kids and regulars, I think the staff knows what to expect cuz they were all pretty chill. FOOD First: The sandwiches and wraps came with chips AND AN APPLE. Perfect. Dad had the Cuban Sandwich (I've never seen it on a pumpernickel and rye swirl bread) but he loved it. Vegan Macintosh wrap with Portabello and hummus was fantastic. Hit the spot for a cool autumn day. GIFTS Maple sugar candy isn't made here anymore, but the candy is made by a larger company out of New Hampshire. DONUTS They didn't run out of apple donuts today, but they were definitely a hit with almost everyone. ACTIVITIES Today was an event day, with hundreds of families taking part in Clydesdale Horse wagon rides, kiddie train rides, and lots of other family activities. Wonderful visit to the Lyman PIck Your Own Orchards on a late Saturday morning in mid-September…read more We've visited lots of Pick Your Own Orchards over the years and most have transitioned over into a festival-styled space with offerings including hayrides, playgrounds and pettings zoos, all for a premium all-inclusive price. Depending on the family, this may not be ideal for some. Some also have, sometimes unreasonable, picking requirements...such as each member of the group over a certain age MUST purchase a picking bag...which, for a family of four, would result in an expensive family visit to the orchard with LOTS of leftover and unused apples. Again, this may not be ideal for some. Lyman was a breath of fresh air. Their entire operation is quite massive and separated: pick your own orchards, massive farm shop, golf center, and pub/grill are in different locations within their entire property. We arrived to the Pick Your Own Orchards area at around 11am on a lovely Saturday morning in mid-September. We expected it to be busy but it wasn't...there were lots ot parking (free) spaces in the dirt/grassed lot and even the picking orchards weren't very crowded...lots of space to pick. After parking, we went to the stand to purchase our picking bag. The options, currently, are $16 for half-peck bag, $26 for a full-peck bag and $47 for half-bushel. For our family, two adults and one small child, we shared a full-peck bag (no "per-person" requirement) which fit about 9 pounds of apples. After choosing our bag, we proceeded to the ochards to pick. There were Gala, McIntosh, Blondee, Jonamac, Spencer and Honey Crisp apples to choose from. Lots of trees to select from at that time...both on the higher and lower branches were available. All staff we encountered, including the parking lot and payment counter attendants were friendly, helpful and efficient. They post updates regularly (sometimes every few hours) on all of their social media platforms and have a hotline, which is very helpful, particularly for harvest and weather updates. Their detailed and thorough website has lots of information so you know what do expect during your visit. Again, great time here at Lyman's no-nonsense PIck-Your-Own Orchards. I can understand why they have been voted the (and among the best) orchards in Connecticut and the entire Nation. We also visited their Farm Store which was also great. Huge store with lots to choose from including fresh product, jarred jams and syrups, and sizeable hot food and bakery sections. Very reasonable prices throughout. After you are finished shopping, there are lots of tables and chairs toward the back of the building where you can sit, relax an eat. There is also a ice-cream window there with some interesting flavors. Would love to return to check out some of their other offerings. The two-hour drive from NYC was definitely worth it!

Wow. This is probably one of the most beautiful farmer markets I've been to. It's on Friday evening…read more4-7, in one of the prettiest parts of Connecticut, at Riverport Park. There's live music, food trucks, local produce, friendly people. It's from June to early September, so check the dates. Don't miss the food truck, I had a pastrami sandwich from Skyscrapers, and there are amazing vendors! There was a woman who made her own biscotti, and there were so many different types!

They have 2 kinds, raised sugar and apple cider. Our friends usually get the pizza that is made fresh from the clay oven stand that also serves paella. We bring our friendly-dog so that she can see other pups and people. They usually have some live family friendly music playing in the gazebo in the center of the square that makes up the farmers market.
