I went on a random Thursday morning not expecting much but Cynthia the bartender made my morning so much fun.

My first visit was on 8/22/25 for their healthcare night, where showing your healthcare job badge would get you an additional free raffle ticket from Cocina Hangouts (local food truck), on top of the free raffle ticket you could've received by following them on Instagram. Kind of underwhelming lol, but it did the job of attracting my party of 3 to the bar. I tried the Sweet Cheeks, which was sweet and unique and refreshingly light. The next time I stopped by was the very next day 8/23/25 for their Super Smash Bros tournament of up to 32 players, $10 buy-in, and cash prize (and other prizes for 2nd and 3rd place). There was 1 set-up with a large projector and 2 MC's. This was my first Smash tournament, but I didn't get to stay long due to work the next day, and I didn't purchase a drink. The event was very lively and crowded, and I wished I stayed longer! Will be back to participate/spectate another tournament. Overall lively dive bar that can provide a fun but chill night out! I'm also looking forward to taking advantage of their Monday-Friday 2-6p HAPPY HOUR if I have the chance.

I mean "dive bar" as an absolute compliment... let's start there…read more I had been eyeing Ain't Nick's for a while and finally worked up the gumption to wander in and check it out because I heard the magic words: karaoke every night. As a karaoke lover, obviously I had to investigate. First impression? Bigger and nicer inside than I expected! Two pool tables right when you walk in (and rumor has it they're only $1.25 a game... hello 90s, nice to see inflation apparently skipped pool ), plenty of seating, tables around the bar, and just a solid neighborhood bar setup. The bar itself was pretty full when I arrived, and the only open seat was directly in front of the taps (not exactly my chosen throne), so I figured I'd grab a table. Except before I even got that far, someone struck up a conversation: "First time here?" And somehow within minutes I had new friends. Him and his girl were genuinely the sweetest, and that turned into meeting even more people. The vibe was just easy... people actually talking to each other, introducing themselves, and being welcoming. The bartender was attentive and made a bomb Shirley Temple. One may have been approximately 73% grenadine, but honestly who doesn't need a full-blown sugar rush when karaoke is happening and the vibes are immaculate? The entertainment situation is also solid. Karaoke every night, trivia on at least one night (not sure which, but I'm told trivia kicks things off and then karaoke takes over), pool tables, and a patio area outside with games like giant Jenga, extra seating, and separate music playing. So if karaoke isn't your thing (who hurt you?) you can escape outside and still hang out. I didn't eat, but the food coming out looked GOOD. Not sad "we threw frozen stuff in a fryer and called it dinner" bar food, more like amped-up bar food. I also heard from multiple people that the food is legit, so clearly I need to investigate that next. Location-wise, it's probably an Uber spot for me and not somewhere I'm making a late-night solo trek home from, but I'm told Ubers are easy to grab. Overall? I walked in curious and left with my heart full. Good conversations, kind people, fun karaoke, and a way better night than I ever expected. I don't know if I'll become a regular, but when I get that urge to go "people out in the world," Ain't Nick's is officially on the list. My heart was tickled. And yes, that's the official rating system. Bonus points: I got carded, which as someone who is well past the legal drinking age but still approximately 14 years old at heart, absolutely made my night before it even started.

This place's food is always good, and I won't complain about the wings. Unfortunately, the service…read morehas consistently been mediocre. I understand it's a dive bar, and nobody expects staff to be hovering over customers. That said, a little more attentiveness would go a long way. It often feels like the regulars have a chokehold on the place. I get that frequent customers who tip well are going to get some extra attention, but at a certain point it becomes excessive. If you're not a regular or aren't familiar with the staff, good luck getting the same level of service. It's disappointing because I'd like to support small businesses, but this place seems stuck in its ways. The food keeps people coming back, but the customer service leaves a lot to be desired. My last visit was a good example. I ordered wings on a busy Sunday night around midnight. Since it was crowded, I expected a wait--20 to 25 minutes seemed reasonable. After about 40 minutes, I checked on my order. One of the bartenders had been outside chatting with a friend, and when I asked about the delay, I was told, "People usually order them extra crispy, so they take a while." That explanation didn't make much sense because I hadn't ordered them extra crispy. What likely happened is the order was forgotten, which is understandable--we're all human and mistakes happen. What was frustrating was the lack of transparency. A simple apology and honest explanation would have gone much further than an excuse that didn't apply to my order. The food is good enough that I'll probably be back, but the service continues to hold this place back.

If you've ever wondered what it feels like to accidentally teleport back to 1992 without warning or…read moreconsent... I have the place for you. So here's the thing: I recently moved kinda sorta into the area, and my drinking buddy asked if we wanted to stay local or wander elsewhere. My gut said, "Not around here" and listen, my intuition is usually correct. But then he pulls up this list of "Best Dive Bars in Phoenix," and apparently this gem made the cut. We walk in and BOOM! Instant time-warp, for me. I'm talking back-in-the-day bar with my mom doing karaoke while everyone chain-smoked indoors like it was a personality trait and I wasn't legal to be in there... only back then, no one cared. They call the place a "patio," but let's be honest: if nicotine had a spiritual home, it would be right here. If you're a non-smoker or someone who believes oxygen should be unobstructed by Marlboro ghosts, turn around. This is not your ministry. The bartender was an absolute icon. She announced she wasn't even supposed to be working, which is EXACTLY the kind of energy a true dive bar requires. She was slammed, running around like she was bartending both the Super Bowl and a family reunion, so the drinks took a looong while... but when they came? Suddenly I understood life again. And the karaoke... let me tell you. I went in there ready to sing something from this century. The options, however, politely declined. This was old-school karaoke, baby. Like, the kind of setup where you half expect to write your song down on a napkin and hand it to a man named Chuck. No new music that I could find. No modern selections from my lists. If you want to sing something post-2005, bring a Bluetooth speaker and emotional support. And yet? I had so much fun. Like... stupid fun. Unexpected fun. "Why am I having a euphoric experience inhaling secondhand smoke in 2026?" fun. I didn't get to check out the bathroom, which honestly might be a blessing or a missed adventure.... unclear. But everything else? Chef's kiss. Friends french fries were fresh and hot... and actual potato as far as we could tell... double kiss. Dive-bar perfection. If you want sterile, curated, Instagrammable vibes: run. If you want to scream-laugh, smell like nostalgia and cigarettes for three days, and hear music older than some of the patrons? This place is your destiny. Will I be back? Absolutely. Probably with eyeliner smudged like a raccoon and ready to request karaoke songs that don't exist there.

Second time here same great service as always and a fun ride with the motorcycle to get a beer…read more Always super dark and smoky but relaxed and you can load the music into the jutbox. I have not tried the food before but they do have a snack menu to check out too.
