There used to be this adorable, weird hole in the wall fish shop in Dunalley that looked the…read moreslightest breeze would knock it down. It wasn't fancy and you couldn't just pick "calamari and chips" or "Flounder and Scallops". You ordered per person, and your basket was filled with whatever the fishing boats caught. Could be sardines, could be flake, could be squid, octopus... it was unbelievably fresh and the building was an anachronism standing at the waters edge of rustic down home charm and good, fresh seafood. That's how it WAS. they've renovated, and in 2024 chic, it looks and feels like a drab, sterile cafeteria. You no longer order based on what's caught, nothing is as fresh as it was and the staff are dismissive to the point of being rude. It's filled with fake ocean props and displays that seem totally at odds with the new modern stylings. Prices have gone up, serving size has gone down and what was a quaint gem hidden on the way to Port Arthur has now Been gentrified in the most disappointing way possible. I wouldn't recommend it on its own, unless you happen to be passing through anyway.

Definitely a spot to stop on the way back from Port Arthur. Very fresh fish. So fresh you see the…read moreboat arrive at the shop and unload the fish, the fisherman gutting and scaling the fish in the shop, a woman batters the fish and cooks it while a young girl serves the customers. The process was a little slow and the only choice on the day was a seafood basket with chips. The fish was running out as the workers yelled to one another "We are out of flake and trevally and now only flathead" Working in a kitchen before I know the oil needs changing when a lot of food is cooked. It could have been changed. However the experience was worthwhile and a bit of a step back in time.

In my list of top 5 places to go eat in and around Hobart!…read more An absolutely beautiful spot that isn't too far away from the CBD but just far away enough to feel like you've gone somewhere new. We came here on a slightly grey day, but the weather didn't dampen the mood one bit! We ordered to start; -The tasting platter: duck liver parfait, hot smoked salmon, pork and pistachio terrine, pear relish, grape salad and crisp breads $26 Yeah this was delicious and helpful in serving size! The parfait was silky, creamy and full of flvaour and there was something about that pear relish that I couldn't stop myself going back for more! Rare to say that about pear! Haha Main; -Twice cooked butterfly quail on braised cabbage, peas, smoked bacon lardons and brown shallots $24 -Venison shank slow roasted with port and mountain pepper, baby carrots and cauliflower gratin $28 These were SENSATIONAL! Cooked so well, modern cuisine with a very hearty country feel to it. I love the unique menu and way in which they play with the ingredients! You can tell the chef has a love for the produce and a love for diners that appreciate a good sized meal! Dessert; -Coconut milk pannacotta, raspberry sorbet, crumbled shortbread, coconut and raspberry crisps $12 Heaven on a plate! Excellent choice of ingredients and a great play with all the textures. We also tried some of the locally made on site chocolates and those cigars!! I wish I bought home 3 boxes of those back with me to Perth! Oh well, it's back to Tasmania I go then!

Oh wow!! This place has everything here. Great food at their modern restaurant. They also have a…read moreresident chocolatier that makes goodies to die for. Stay for lunch or dinner pick your own berries and buy some chocolates. The owners have lovingly thought of it all. And in a few short years they'll be bottling their own wines too!! Well worth the visit!!!

We walked over to the restaurant from our cabin in Stewart's Bay Lodge which was quite convenient…read more There was still daylight when we arrived but quite dark after we wrapped up dinner. It was a modern design nestled amongst the trees with views of Stewart's Bay from the back. The ambiance was refined with lots of wood and windows. Dishes could be ordered on their own or combined for a 2 or 3 course meal (slight discount but included bread service). We started with the pepper berry squid strips and it was lightly fried with a nice aioli. The native herbs went well with the squid. The kingfish was a complex dish with lots of ingredients. I was a little unsure if it was too much but one bite convinced me otherwise. The orange salad, rice, coconut broth, etc. was so delicious with the fish. Definitely would get this again. The lamb rump was not quite so elaborate in its presentation and looked a bit lonely in it presentation on the plate. However it was cooked to a nice pink color and quite tender. Filling and good. Service was good throughout the meal service. Check was delivered to the table and we paid at the cashier when we were ready to go. Quality, taste and service worth coming back if ever in the area again.
