Edmund was super nice and patient. Class had 4 couples in his kitchen with enough room to move around. Made roughly 10 dumplings depending on how much water and flour you needed to make your dough. Dumpling filling was premade by instructor, just had to stuff it in the wrapper. Once dumplings were made we tossed it in the boiler and by the time we finished making our sauce it was time to eat! Dumplings were paired with some veggies and had a nice little dessert at the end. Very fun experience perfect for date night or a gift for a loved one! read more

I booked a private Dumpling Dinner Party with Chef Eddie as a gift for ten family and friends. It was fantastic and we all gained some new skills. Right from the outset, Eddie was warm, welcoming and fun. He took the time to learn our names and talked us through his journey as a chef up to this point. He was an enthusiastic teacher and took us step-by-step through the dumpling-making process. The results - both in look and taste - exceeded our expectations (Eddie subsequently sent us the recipes so we can now make delicious and authentic Shanghai dumplings at home!) and once we'd consumed them we were treated to a delicious dinner in his lovely condo. I cannot recommend Chef Eddie and the class highly enough. read more

Our team of 7 was looking for an immersive experience to celebrate Lunar New Year and we came across Chef Eddie's Dumpling Dinner Party! We delved into the art of dumpling-making, explored various soy sauces and their flavors, discovered the six basic tastes (sweet, spicy, sour, bitter, salty, and umami), and capped off the evening with a fantastic meal prepared by both ourselves and our talented chef Eddie. Chef Eddie was definitely the highlight of the night. He was super welcoming right off the bat and there was never an awkward moment between all of us. We laughed a bunch, got to know each other better and learned new things throughout the night. Chef Eddie was very knowledgeable about soy sauces, dumplings, and had many culinary tips. Overall, this has been the most engaging, informative, delicious, and enjoyable offsites we've had to date. It was truly a top-notch experience, and we wholeheartedly recommend it to everyone! read more

This was a great experience with Chef Eddie. He's a total pro, extremely welcoming and warm, and gives clear and approachable instructions. The whole night was really fun! My boyfriend and I took the class as a date night--we didn't know the other 3 couples but Eddie set the right tone so we all could immediately feel comfortable with each other and enjoy an evening of communal cooking and eating. I love to cook but had never made dumplings from scratch before, so I'm so glad I got to learn. I'd recommend this class to anyone at any cooking level, for a date night to a team building activity. And would love to learn from Chef Eddie again! read more

My boyfriend and I came to dumpling dinner party with our friends on a Monday and had the best time. Chef Eddie is extremely charismatic and knowledgeable about food. You can tell immediately that he's passionate about his craft. The dinner party is hosted in his personal home in Hayes Valley- when you arrive you literally feel like you're walking into your friend's apartment. The class is $130/pp and fits up to 8 people. For this night there were 5 of us. The experience comes with 10 dumplings/pp, braised pork belly over rice, and tang yuan dessert. This is an intimate class where everyone is hands on. We gathered around Chef Eddie's kitchen counter with our own individual bowls, aprons and rolling pins and ingredients to learn and cook. What was surprising and delightful about this class was that we weren't just learning how to make dough, stuff and pleat dumplings, but also how to be mindful of different textures and flavors when cooking. Chef Eddie's method isn't to use exact measurements but rather to learn how to feel for the correct dough texture, which he learned from his family. Chef Eddie was extremely hands on and patient, he made sure that everyone was having fun and helped give tips on how to fold the dumplings. In addition to the dumplings Chef Eddie also served us a braised pork belly dish with blanched broccoli from the farmers market and rice. We finished the night with a traditional tang yuan red bean mochi ball. A fun fact we learned was that each of these dishes are traditionally made during the Lunar New Year and represent wealth and good fortune. - dumplings look like money bags - pork belly is fat so you'll be fat with wealth - tang yuan is sticky so money will "stick" to you Overall this was a fun and unique experience. I'm glad my boyfriend and I came with friends but I'm sure if it was just the two of us it would be equally as fun. Chef Eddie really does a great job at making everyone feel comfortable, included and seen. I also loved all of the tips and knowledge he shared. Pro Tip: bring your own wine to enjoy while cooking and eating & if you book 2 weeks ahead you can save $10 read more

We booked Eddie's Dumpling Dinner Party as part of an anniversary trip to San Francisco. We cannot say enough good things about Eddie or the Dumpling Dinner Party - it truly exceeded all our expectations! Eddie was such a warm and enthusiastic host - truly the host with the most. His apartment was also inviting! Eddie was a great, thorough, and patient teacher and we felt like we learned the basic skills to making dumplings. We appreciated that Eddie provided all the supplies and also appreciated that all the ingredients were high quality and local. It was so fun to learn to make our own dumplings and then to be able to eat them! We also really enjoyed trying the other dishes Eddie made for us to accompany the dumplings. The class was absolutely worth it and we would recommend it to everyone! read more

Spending the evening with our amazing host Eddie was an absolute blast and an epic evening! From the moment we arrived, the vibes were warm, welcoming, and full of foodie excitement! Eddie kicked things off with top-tier hospitality, then jumped right into dumpling-making magic--step-by-step lessons that were super easy to follow and adopt (and super fun!). We gladly received history about soy sauce and dumpling dough--who knew learning could taste so good? Then came the best part: eating our creations! The dumplings were so delicious as were the rest of the dishes! So good they should come with a warning label..... wear stretchy pants to allow for maximum dumpling consumption. All in all, it was a night full of laughter, flavor, and new skills. 10/10 recommend this tasty, hands-on adventure. Come hungry, leave happy and a bit too full! read more

We had a team building event with Eddie, learning how to make dumplings and eating delicious food. Eddie welcomed us in his beautiful apartment, making us feel at home right away. After a brief introduction we got started making our dough, learning how to pleat with playdough, and finally doing 10 dumplings each with pork or tofu filling. Eddie's instructions were clear and he went to each person, giving advice and correcting mistakes. By the end I felt confident that I could do it all again at home. The dinner afterwards was great. We ate the dumplings we prepared with a sauce that we each customized to our taste. Then we had a pork belly stew with carrots cooked in sake and soy sauce. And we finished with a rice ball filled with his homemade red bean paste. The whole event was very enjoyable. We all laughed, struggled and finally managed to produce decent to great looking dumplings. I highly recommend Eddie for team building or family events. read more

Eddie was outstanding! He brought a really fun and warm vibe making everyone feel included and supported. We thought the way he weaved his own personal story into the class was very personable. Making dumplings isn't easy and Eddie gave digestible instructions and support when needed. Overall very cool experience and the dumplings turned out delicious. He also made an incredible braised pork dish and dessert to accompany the dumplings. Would highly recommend booking a class with Eddie! read more

Eddie is a very natural and nice host. Food was truly delicious. Learned a new skill. Very fun night!

My husband and I did this as a date night activity and we had such an amazing experience. Who knew that taste testing Soy Sauce is a thing? Eddie included that as part of our experience making the dumplings. Every part of the meal building was an incredible experience - Eddie is a GREAT teacher and the hands on practice, his communication before and after, the location, and so much made this one of our favorite date nights so far. That's in a 28 year relationship! :) read more

As someone of Shanghainese descent and who grew up making dumplings with my mom and grandma back home, I didn't think there was much more to learn about the craft. However, as Eddie proved through his excellent service and knowledge, there is always room for improvement - especially when starting from scratch and making your own dough versus using premade wraps. Eddie was a great host and was patient with our party of 4, taking time to give us individual instruction on how to make and roll the dough as well as how to make the folds. The braised pork belly was excellent and was made better by the fact that Eddie took time to explain the different types of soy sauce and the braising process. Overall, I think Eddie's dumpling experience was very much worth it - especially at its price point and level of intimacy. read more

I highly recommend this to visitors or locals. This is also a great date night or friends outing activity! Eddie made my friends and I feel welcomed right away. Dumpling Dinner Party - a plate of dumplings - Cooking Classes Near Me

We had a team building event with Eddie last week, collectively learning how to make dumplings. We had a great time, with Eddie taking the time to make people from all experience levels feel comfortable. He walked us through every step of making dumplings, making sure we had practice to feel ready for the real thing, and helped us get them into a finished product we could all enjoy. I've almost never cooked before, and actually never even had dumplings, but I had a lot of fun during this event and greatly enjoyed the meal. One special challenge that Chef Eddie navigated is that is that I don't eat meat or have alcohol, but the rest of the team is okay with it. He was incredibly accommodating of my dietary restriction, preparing some vegetarian dumping mixture as well as other vegetarian options for me. He also made sure to not use alcohol to braise my food, and was very particular about washing his hands when switching over to help me out. I still ended up with great food and felt fully included, so I highly recommend reaching out to Eddie even if you have dietary restrictions! read more

Amazing experience. I can see why every single review to date is 5 stars. First of all, the space is lovely. It's clean, well designed, and charming. More importantly, though, Eddie is a knowledgable and patient teacher. He shows details and provides hands-on instruction in a way that would simply be impossible to get from watching videos online. We came away from the evening feeling empowered to make dumplings at home. Most importantly, though, we had a great time. If you want a special and fun cooking experience, I highly recommend Eddie's Dumpling Dinner Party. read more

He creates a really comfortable environment so that everyone who is part of the class feels like they get to know each other a bit, even if we didn't know each other beforehand. Dumpling Dinner Party - A truly hands-on cooking class in SF. - Cooking Classes Near Me

We are local to the Bay Area and booked this dumpling making class on a whim. Eddie was incredibly welcoming and truly carries a wealth of knowledge about our local food system, ingredients, and restaurant network. We learned so much about our own community during this lesson--from the best markets to source ingredients to reviewing nutrition labels for the highest quality ingredients. My husband and I took this class on a Sunday evening and cooked alongside four other guests. Everyone was laughing, sharing personal anecdotes, and very clearly having a great time. Eddie's space is well-designed, extremely clean, and stocked with high quality kitchen tools and dining-ware. I loved that Eddie has mastered the balance between levity/play and constructive feedback for his students. Not only is he a formally trained chef and restauranteur, but also a first-generation child of Chinese parents who've passed down their culture through this food. Every pointer and correction Eddie offered felt so encouraging. He welcomed questions and engagement from his students. Everyone left his apartment laughing and sharing fond reflections about the night. I highly recommend this experience!! read more
