John and his crew did a FANTASTIC job tearing down my house!! I was skeptical at first, becuase The Dump Guys quote was significantly lower (both cost and time to complete) than the other quotes I received. After asking lots of questions, I learned the differences could be attributed to the way they were doing the job (multiple truck/trailer crews cycling to the transfer station rather than using roll off containers). So the demo day came - they brought a big crew and three sets of truck/trailers. They started within an hour of their arrival, and were done and fully cleaned up within 6 hours!! John ran the excavator and pulled the house down in an orderly fashion, keeping all debris falling in toward the house, limiting the mess that was made. All of the drivers were very professional, and the workers helpful at making sure everything stayed cleaned up as they went. The attention to detail by all employees was excellent, and you could tell by the crew's attitudes and interactions that these employees seemed happy and well-trested. In my personal experience, I found them to be prompt, professional, thorough, and complete work to pre job estimate. I spoke with several different people in the company, including a scheduler to reschedule when the scheduled day was interrupted by rain. I found the polite, professional, customer first presence to be company culture as it is present with all employees. Well, the reviews are right. We had trash from some minor renovations on a unit: a couple sinks, a toilet, and all sorts of assorted debris had to go. We also threw in a couple items that our lazy asses had been "going to take to the dump" for about a year, like a broken grill and patio umbrella. If we owned a truck, the dump isn't that far away from us, but we'd be borrowing one from a friend which is an inconvenience in itself, then moving most of the stuff down from the 3rd floor in many, many trips. Ain't no one got time fo dat. Called the Dump Guys, had a super friendly guy answer the phone. We scheduled the next day, and then had to bump it back a day, all with ease. They gave us an approximate quote based on truckload size and said they would pro-rate based on the what the guys saw when they arrived. They showed up when they said they would, were in and out in 20 minutes, the price was as quoted, and for us, 100% worth it. On the face of it, it doesn't seem like a rocket science business model, but they do everything right: customer service and follow-through. I have to agree with the other reviews I've read about the Dump Guy. They model great customer service at every step. I also appreciate that they have two categories of pick up: one for compostable yard trimmings and another for miscellaneous waste. I agree that they are environmentally conscious and will remind you of these two different types of pickup. I suggest you take advantage of South Portland's advertised hazardous waste recyclable drop off at the transfer station for that type of disposal. Oh and one more thing, every time I've used this service they follow up a day later with a courtesy call to make sure everything was satisfactory. Very good company! read more

We called the dump guys to help empty an apartment for a family member who went into a nursing home. They were able to do our job on just a few days notice. We recently decided it was finally time to get the shed removed from our backyard. When we purchased the home less than 2 years ago, it was one of the first things we identified as wanting to change. After doing some research and finding this company online, I sent an email through their website and received a quick response. A polite email exchange later and an estimate was set up for the following week. The estimate was lower then I would have thought for Demolition and removal of our shed. While it was not a sizable structure, he did explain that they pay all of The Dumping fees and many things are charged by the weight of materials being dumped. So knowing that, I found the estimate very reasonable. I was told the cash or check or preferred, which is certainly fine for me. They were kind enough to make time for us before the storm Wednesday morning. In fact, they got here early. The work was done with a small excavator and their own dump truck. After all of the major debris was in the dump truck, the two person team, including the person who came to give me the estimate, used a rake and by hand, cleared up any leaves and debris that might have been inadvertently Left Behind where the shed had once stood. Altogether, the process didn't take longer than an hour, which is what I was told at the estimate. Very polite person and they both worked efficiently, fast, as well as on time and for the stated estimate. If something else needs to be done on our property and removal is required, these will be the first guys that I call. read more

We had piles of branches and pine needles that needed to be taken care of, and tons of stuff needed gone from my garage and basement. The prices are extremely reasonable. The nicest people taking away unwanted junk at a very fair price! They are professional and prompt-plus (came a little early with a friendly phone call heads up asking if it was ok). Our job was to remove mostly old metal shelving, retired rain gutters and other similar type debris we had behind our shed. The two young fellahs doing our job seem to enjoy working for the company. As I paid (with a deserved tip) when they were done with the job I asked if either are the owner because they were so attentive to details, courteous and very upbeat this early Saturday freaking-cold morning. Does not recycle/resell anything. I only realized this after the truck was loaded with lots of antique solid wood doors and windows, a washer and dryer, lawnmower, etc. Plus with all of the add-ons the price was almost double the estimate. Go with the other company with a similar name. read more
