Because this might be the most inexpensive and fastest meal I've had in 10 years. --- --- --- When doing my food research for a recent trip to the area, I learned something new: Detroit is known for its coney places. And upon learning this, it seemed pretty universal that Duly's was the favorite of all of them. So when my friend and I drove in from Cleveland, Duly's was literally our first stop. We waited maybe 5 minutes for a couple of seats to open up, and promptly ordered a couple of coney's each. I'm not exaggerating when I say I was taking my first bite less than 3 minutes later. And they were quite tasty. So tasty, in fact, that I ordered a third one. And some coffee to avoid a food coma. And my grand total was $13 lol. Duly's is the coolest kid in town! Been great for years and they are still slinging some of the best Coney fare in our fine city of Detroit. I thoroughly enjoyed/destroyed my loose burger with extra jalapeños... and grabbed a bowl of chili to take home for later. Small hole in the wall place that serves up some of the best coney dogs around Detroit. Any time in visiting from the west coast I will make the 20+ mile drive several times a week to stop in and get 4-6 coneys to go. still affordable, and very delicious. What a legacy, established in 1921 and still holds much of the original character! We were so excited to find this spot on our day visit to Detroit and get a classic Detroit Coney Island Dog with chili cheese fries and a coke! It was sooo good and we loved the energy of this spot. Old school diner with reasonable prices. I eat here 1-2 times a year on the rare occasion when I get the chance to stop by Southwest Detroit for breakfast. I haven't tried the Coney dogs, but the hot dogs here received Anthony Bourdain's approval. I've had the breakfast food, grits, tuna sandwich, and fries. I recommend sticking to the breakfast items rather than ordering a sandwich. The tuna sandwich was pretty standard and not a standout on the menu. I've said this before in other reviews, but Detroit proper is the best place to get a cheap and delicious breakfast. Restaurants in the suburbs overcharge as much as 4x more for breakfast, and something is missing from the taste you get at a Detroit greasy spoon. The breakfast is simple and filling: eggs, meat, potatoes, and toast for $6.25 (cash only). An order of grits gives you a generous container, and if you say yes to lots of butter, they add a lot. However, the butter doesn't add much to the flavor. They should use salted butter. I love that places like Duly's are still standing, and it feels like not much has probably changed since it opened over a century ago. read more

Bourdain (rest in power) would never have led us astray. This place is a gem! Cheap, tasty food, made quick for you to essentially get in and get out. I got the coney dog and fries for $7.50. Taste was excellent and the French fries were plenty. Two things to note, interior is tiny and you have a 1 hour time limit on dining in. Additionally, it's cash only so be prepared. If you don't have cash, there is an atm across the street. I have yet to try any other coney dogs but very impressed with this one! read more

I agree with some that this is the best coney dog in the city. It beats the "big two" downtown in terms of taste and charm. Really nice folks own the place and are keeping the tradition alive. One of my favorite Coney places. The staff are always very customer focused and friendly. Each time I've sat the counter I've been fortunate enough to meet a new & friendly local. Zero sense of hours posted anywhere on Google, Yelp, their FB page, etc. Definitely frustrating to trust the 24 hour advertisement and many reviews noting great for late night food....only to take a $45 Uber from DTW to try it out and then turn right back around without any food and another $50 Uber. The sign outside says it's open 24 hours, but they closed not long after we left (2pm on Saturday), so maybe it's worth double-checking the opening times before you visit. We wanted to grab breakfast before a long day of drinking. He has several spots in mind but this was on of his hangouts after a night of drinking back in his hey- day so he wanted me to get the experience! I love doing these things with him! We parked on the street and walked to this incredibly small diner. This is their 100 year anniversary!! It doesn't look like they have done a ton of updates over the years which really is part of it's charm. It felt super retro. There is a long counter with barstools and a couple of private tables. Everyone pretty much sits and the counter and chats though. Lots of regulars. There were a lot of people coming to grab carry out at well. The food was really quite good. Nothing fancy. Just a traditional, hearty breakfast. Oh. And it was cheap too! Two breakfasts for $12. Can't beat that! Great coffee. Very friendly service. Check it out! read more
