From the moment I stepped into Duluth Animal Hospital, I felt heard. Jenny was amazing, she immediately put my dogs at ease. I have three Schnauzers, and they bark at everything, but not at her! Sierra, the tech, was so kind and explained everything clearly. Doctor Tison was just as wonderful, checking in after each examination and giving me detailed information on Toddy, Lola, and Gigi. They covered everything, health, teeth, age, and made me feel completely taken care of. The whole experience was smooth and perfect. My dogs left happy, no barking at all! The vet assistant was timely and took Ziggy to be weighed promptly. Ziggy got lots of attention which he loves and the receptionists gave him a couple of treats. My dog loves to go there which is important to me. Nothing is worse than trying to drag an 80 pound dog through a door (been there, done that). After reading some negative comments, I want to provide my experience with Duluth Animal Hospital. I have been taking my pets there since 1977 when I moved to Duluth. The staff truly loves animals. The vets are fantastic. Last year they put my Great Dane to sleep. It was a really hard moment for me, but he was loved by several people as he went to sleep. The vet and techs all got down on the floor with him. They understood how much Milo meant to me. My new pup is also under their care. He loves all of the people there and runs to get in the door. I've had dogs and cats all my life and I haven't met any people who treat them better that the staff at DAH. For the reviewer who complained that the vet took her animal back to begin treatment on an emergency issue, she should have been amazed that they snapped to it and began treating the emergency ASAP. Also, times have changed, most vets take the dogs to a treatment room away from the owner. I used to have to hold my own dogs while they treated them. It's a much more pleasant experience when your dog isn't treated by you. I disliked it at first, but now see the benefits. Now there are vet technicians and assistants to help with the handling. Please don't look at negative reviews. I'm sure in that moment there was an acceptable reason. Try them and make your own decisions. read more

I will NEVER go back. I recently moved to Duluth and took my sick dog in for the first time. The vet tech took a very short history then told me she was taking my dog "to be weighed" after 15 minutes I asked where my dog was and was told the doctor was examining her. I literally said I am not ok with her examining my dog without me present and was told it's to late she has already started. I had never met this vet And more importantly she refused to talk to me prior to examining my dog. She knew absolutely nothing about my dog's environment, diet, or medical history. I have never been treated so poorly at a veterinary office. When I let Dr Niagro know how upset I was that she did not have the professionalism to even speak to me prior to examining my dog she blamed it on being "short staffed ". Instead of getting a doggy babysitter, we chose to house our two dogs at this center (at a more expensive rate) to make sure that they would be taken care of. When we took them back, we found a deformation in our dog's backside and a huge scab that wasn't there before. He's permanently limping now. If I could find some way to sue, I would. Will never bring our dogs back here again, and hope you guys don't encounter the same experience. read more

All of my dogs over the past 18 years have been patients at Duluth Animal Hospital. We've had wellness visits, boarding, grooming, end-of-life care, emergency visits, injuries, all of it. Dr. Diehl is our go-to for English mastiffs, though we've seen most of the doctors through the years and all provide exemplary care. I had an emergency with my dog Denny and brought him to Duluth Animal Hospital for his first visit. Denny was experiencing sudden labored breathing. The front desk staff took my concerns seriously and made me feel as though they cared. I met with a tech and explained that my 14 year old pup passed last year, so this was scary for me, and she shared her similar experience and made me feel that Denny was in good hands. Dr. Holson saw him and took such great care of him; her bedside manner was great and my dog was comfortable with her. I can't say enough how grateful I am for the entire staff. As unfortunate a circumstance as having my partner in crime being put to sleep after 11 years this facility really provided all the accommodations to make it as painless as is possible. Dr. Miller was so sympathetic and allowed me to have Henry put down outside instead of in a cold unfamiliar room. They set up blankets outside within view of the railroad tracks underneath a tree and provided blankets. I met Dr. Miller outside after he gave me and my sweet puppers some time alone before the euthanasia. When he came out it was just the doctor, myself, and my best friend, which was my preference. All of the staff expressed their condolences and aided me while I completely balled my eyes out. When it was done I truly felt this was the best case scenario for Henry who had developed a bad bout of lung cancer. I truly owe the peace in my heart today to these folks at Duluth Animal Hospital. To add, they also did not charge me an arm and a leg. I also have brought Henry's brother Lennon (Great Dane) to this facility for a severe allergic reaction and they handled him well too. I'll definitely continue to use this hospital for all my current and future dog's needs. Thank you guys so much, especially Dr. Miller. I've been bringing my pets to Duluth Animal Hospital for almost 20 years, and I have nothing but good to say. I have seen Drs. Miller, Niagro, and Diehl the most. From puppyhood to end of life, everyone at DAH has been wonderful. I love that they treat you with respect, answer any questions you may have, and are very thorough. They stay up to date with the latest technology, and you can tell that each of them loves animals. Because I've been going there for so long, I feel like they've become extensions of my family. They understand each of my animals' quirks, and respect their needs. They also know me, and my pets, by name. Since I started going to DAH, I've moved farther away, but still take my animals there, even with a 45 minute drive. That's how good they are. There are AAHA rated animal hospitals closer to my house, but choose to go farther. I just feel like my pets deserve the best, and that's what they get there! read more

I love this animal hospital so much. I've only been here once, but everything was just so smooth. I had taken my dog to a Rover and he came back with some cuts on his face that didn't seem to be healing as fast as I expected. The receptionist who spoke with me on the phone seemed genuinely concerned about my dog and managed to squeeze me into the doctor's schedule right away (she literally said, "how soon can you be here?") I wish I caught the name of the vet who saw my dog because he was amazing. My dog is large, (Ridgeback Mastiff mix) but he is incredibly shy and gentle. He hates going to the vet and gets really anxious, but the vet who saw him was so soothing and even laid on the floor with my dog LIKE LITERALLY LAID ON THE FLOOR and made my dog feel so comfortable that by the time he was done checking him out up close, my dog loved this man. To be clear, I would never in a milion years expect a vet or anyone else to lay on the floor with a stranger's dog lol, so when this vet did it to make my dog more comfortable, I knew right away that this is a person who genuinely loves and cares about animals. I got the same vibe from the techs as well. Everyone here just made my dog and me feel so comfortable. I have no desire to take my dog anywhere but here from now on! read more

We were new to the area and had not established a local vet so when our 13 year old dog had a sudden turn and needed to be euthanized we felt lost. We were concerned about being separated because of COVID-19 but the staff was so kind and supportive- they set up an outdoor area to allow us to be with our pet in her last moments. Today I took my 13 year old Siberian Husky to see Dr. K. Diehl. She had examined my 14 year old Husky Chanook back in March and I felt she did fine and the office staff was extremely pleasant. Back in March I had discussed with Dr Diehl the issues I had with my 13 year old Husky "Kodi". I had explained that he had been on Hypothyroid medication but he had been off it for quite some time. I explained that I would like to get him back on it. She had informed me that she would have to see him and have his records sent from California. She said after she sees him and the records there should be no reason why he couldn't get back on the medication. I even explained to her that the reason I hadn't had Kodi on his medication was because I couldn't afford all the high costs of blood work. Due to me being laid off. She explained she understood and that she would just have to see the records and just to brings Kodi in. At NO time did Dr. Kathleen Diehl EVER ask "how long is quite a while" she NEVER stated "well if he hadn't been on the medication after _____ months we would have to do the blood work over". She stated VERY clearly all she needed was to see him and see the chart from CA in order to put him back on the medication. I honestly was frustrated because I felt "well if that's all she needed why didn't the Vet in CA do that and Kodi would have been on the meds the whole time". Due to Circumstances I had not been able to bring him in till today. When I brought him in the staff was again very pleasant. They Took Kodi in for a Weight & temperature. When he came back we saw Dr. Diehl. After some discussion she informed me that she wouldn't be putting Kodi on the medication. When I asked why she said the time lapse had been too great and he would need blood work. Now I'm not disputing that this Makes sense. BUT I Specifically asked that on the initial visit with Chanook. If that would have been the case I would have waited till I could pay ALL the costs. This ended up being a waisted visit. I was VERY upset that Dr. Diehl mislead me. She completely gave me FALSE information. I did speak to Chris Early (manager) and she initially stated "well maybe it was a miscommunication. NO NO NO. This was no miscommunication this was flat out misleading the client. Especially when I Specifically asked if just the visit and the papers was all that was needed to be done. There is no miscommunication. Chris Early stated she would credit my bill particularly on my visit with Kodi when I get his blood work. And that is fine. If people get DR. KATHLEEN DIEHL you need to be VERY Specific. You need to ask her! Multiple times and probably get it in writing any info she provides. Possibly even check with the office manager prior to leaving if the information is correct. DON'T GET MISLEAD BY DR. DIEHL like I did and waste your time!! read more

Got Heartworm medication ordered-finally-after having wrong order sent to me: with 2-years' worth instead of one years'! Would like to see Duluth Animal Hospital make purchasing online meds easier and to make sure that personnel calling clients know the protocols of sending decline waivers via email. The vets, however, are ALL EXCELLENT at this clinic and I give them FIVE STARS. read more

Took my dog in for a knee surgery costing several thousand dollars, we were very pleased with their care up front, their pricing was reasonable in comparison to other vets (not the most expensive and by no means the cheapest). We went in for all of the followups every week for 3 weeks asked about the fact he did not want to put weight on the leg every time and was told it was normal he would favor it for a while. After 4 weeks and he still does not want to put weight on the leg so I made an appointment to have him checked out, and was called and the "tech" tried to talk me out of bringing him in, but I did anyway. After being checked out and X-Rays they see that something is wrong with the surgery and tell me he needs another surgery estimated between $1200 and $2000. So after a several thousand dollar surgery and a month we need to pay another hefty sum because something went wrong with the original surgery. They are saying that the dog probably did something to cause the issue even though we have followed the after care instructions and ensured he has not. Spoke with the owner he said he is willing to work with us but would still be pretty expensive, but we would have to go in for the surgery and have it done before we know the final costs. I understand that things have a cost but you would think that if something we wrong with an implant that they would make it right, should not but undue financial stress on the family because of something beyond our control. read more

I took my cat in because of his excessive drooling one morning after he ate breakfast. By this point, he was eating/drinking/pooping normally. He had never been like this, so I thought maybe he ate a dead cockroach because I sprayed bugs spray under my oven and dish washer a week before. He is FIV positive and could develop gingivitis easily (even though I have been adding Health Mouth in his water, which was also recommended by one of the vets in this hospital) , so I asked the vet to check on his gums because I noticed his gums looked a little pale. The vet did bloodwork and gave him subcutaneous fluids and cerenia injection even though my cat did not vomit. The vet said drooling was a sign of nausea even though he did not vomit. Bloodwork came out normal. The vet said he had two cavities that should be looked out for, but she didn't think they would cause the excessive drooling and she just told me to keep observing and see if my cat would eat normally. Since there was no appointment available, there was an urgent care charge. All together, the bill came up to be over $400. The problem was that the drooling did not stop. My cat still did not vomit and he was eating and drinking normally. In the evening, my boyfriend and I checked on my cat's gums, and we saw the gums above one of the tooth was pretty red and inflamed. We did some research online and pretty sure his drooling was related to his gum issue, which was not even suspected by the vet. His gums could not have turned red in only a few hours, so I am very surprised the vet could miss this. I am highly disappointed. This was the hospital that I had been taking him to, but I think I would choose a different one from now on. I know vet visits are often pricy, but the misdiagnosis on top of the price is what I can't accept. read more

I moved to Duluth from New Jersey with my senior dachshund "baby". He had multiple health issues including heart and disc disease. I wasn't in Georgia a month before something came up that he needed a vet. I am so glad I found Dr. Diehl. She clearly loves dogs. She is honest and she will advise you like your dog is her own. She is very knowledgeable on specific conditions and seems to know the best most current treatments. She put my dog on a heart medication that I am sure prolonged his life and she recommended acupuncture for his disc disease when pain medication wasn't enough. I am now a believer in acupuncture. I wish I could find a doctor for myself in Georgia I like as well as Dr. Diehl. She knows her stuff and she cares. read more

I never write reviews, but I needed to share my experience with this place. If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. Very unprofessional and unorganized. I was charged an additional fee when getting my pup fixed a few months ago (they removed additional teeth from her mouth without informing me about the process/why she needed them removed or the additional fees. My dog now has an underbite, which is fine, but she never had it before the surgery. I had to dispute the charge, that they fought me on and were extremely rude about. Months later, I gave them the benefit of the doubt and made a another check up appointment for my dog. As I arrive, the front desk asked me to bring my pup to the front (in 35 degree weather). I wait outside as the front desk is watching me. I then decided to wait in my car since it was warmer and as I called the front desk to let her know, she couldn't recall who I was or what I was there for after just speaking with her on the phone and as she was watching me wait outside. I cancelled the appointed after waiting for 20 minutes. Very unorganized and difficult place to work with. I don't trust my pup in their hands anymore and don't think anyone else should either. read more

All our crazy questions and concerns are treated genuinely and as if we are their only patients. When we adopted our dog, she ended up having a couple of health issues all of which were addressed immediately and thoroughly (also financially it was VERY reasonable). I've been a dog owner for twelve years, and I wish I'd found this vet from day one! I cannot say enough about how kind, efficient, and practical they are. We had a senior dog who developed diabetes and had some arthritis/hip issues, and Dr. Higgins went above and beyond to make sure we understood all of our options. Unfortunately, yesterday we did have to make the difficult decision of euthanasia, and the staff could not have been more accommodating or gracious. Dr. Miller was our vet through that process, and he was so considerate and caring. It was a hard couple of weeks, and I will always be grateful for their amazing service during that time. read more

I've visited this place a few times now and I absolutely do not like how they take your dog/animal to the back for EVERYTHING. It feels VERY uncomfortable to not be able to see what they do to your pet. God knows what goes on back there. Nail clipping in the back, heartworm or fecal tests in the back. Not reassuring at all. I'd like to know what is going on with my pet and be able to see if they're okay. Also apparently, I learned the hard way that this vet does not accept faxes for other online pharmacies but they will write a handwritten prescription for you to pick up instead? Makes no difference and is just VERY inconvenient and frustrating on my end, especially if they don't properly communicate that "policy" with you. Also they refuse to price match with online prices, hence why I decided to get the heartworm medication from an online pharmacy. I'll sadly be switching vets again. read more

Was concerned trying to find a vet to take my two dogs too. I have read so many bad reviews about places it was just scary. Stumbled across this place today and of course not many reviews to make a judgement on, but decided to give it a shot anyways. Boy am I glad I did, the staff is friendly and helpful, not once did I feel awkward or embarrassed by the way my oldest acts when she gets excited. I hate finding a new vet, but after I moved here from CA I was forced to. Thank goodness for this place! I see Dr. Rosentel and she is amazing. My kitty was doing really bad, and I ended up having to put him to sleep. Dr. R was magnificent in how she handled it and helped me to find options when we were still trying to diagnose the problem, and really was there for me when we put him down. From the office staff, who always answer my questions with patience and understanding, to Dr. Robertson and Dr. Holson, everyone is so caring. The vets spend as much time as needed in the room with you answering all the questions you have, and I always have a ton! They treat my dogs as their own! I have been looking for a vet who will listen to me, treat me like the educated consumer that I am, and not treat my pets like the next number in line for years. I heard about Duluth Animal Hospital from a few of my clients and decided to try them out. The only issue we have had has been with the front office, and Dr. Miller got them together and they all got on the same page and everything has been great since. Dr. Diehl is the best vet I have ever met. It's not just about the animals, but about people relations, too. She has both down, showing how much she cares about pets just by the way she pets them, holds them, and her general behavior around them, while simultaneously holding a conversation with the pet's owner and listening to their concerns and ramblings, and answering their questions and making the worry warts (me) feel much better. My husband and I have 5 dogs and 4 cats, and veterinary care has been a really big stress in my life for a long time, but that weight has been lifted by Dr. Diehl and Duluth Animal Hospital. One of our cats was seen by Dr. Holsten as well and she, like Dr. Diehl, is a wonderful vet who will talk with and listen to you. Dr. Miller has met with my husband and he was friendly, helpful and caring. They aren't any more expensive than most of the vet offices in Gwinnett; I'd venture to say that they are a little more affordable, actually.
