I contacted Angi looking for general contractors, and Ben White from Dukes contacted me immediately. I explained that was not looking for a handyman and he told me he was a licensed contractor. I spoke to him on a Thursday. He was supposed to get a hold of me on Monday to come over in the afternoon to look at what I needed. Everything sounded good. He sounded like he was a responsible person. Today is now Tuesday at 6:30pm and I have not heard anything from him which is very disappointing. When you're dealing with a business you expect that they're going to do what they say or at least contact you to make different arrangements. I guess I'll be moving on to a different company and hope they can fulfill what they say. Very disappointing. Dukes LLC is one of the finest companies I've had the pleasure of working with. We live in Belchertown and the sheer number of trees that have been coming down over the past few years has been astonishing - never something we'd expected to see, although we live in a fairly wooded area. As a result, we hired Ben and his team to bring down an enormous split tree (probably close to 150 ft) that threatened our home around summer 2020. His team was able to take on the job within a week or two, were prompt and timely, and managed to have the entirety of the job done within two days. Ben was extremely responsive to calls and questions, and he and his team are super friendly, professional, and clearly experienced. In 2021, we had another tree that required removal and I was somewhat absent from the decision making regarding that one. Another company was hired to take it down, and I can say it was a nightmare. It took three months before anyone come by, and then - after starting the project - it took nearly a month before everything was resolved. In the meantime, we struggled almost daily to get them on the phone, and they even had the gall to request the remainder of their payment while leaving the job only half completed. So it's no wonder that when it became clear we had another severely dying tree - this time right near our home - we called Dukes. Ben showed up that same day to give us a proposal, and his team was back four days later to take care of the tree. They paid care to avoid our septic and water well, were right on time, and their teams were in and out all day until the job was done - less than 8 hours later. They took the tree down, ground the stump, put in loam, and even offered to grind out another stump we had in the front yard! Shout out to Travis, what a champ! Needless to say, we have nothing but glowing recommendations for Dukes, Ben and company - they more than deserve your business and they most certainly will not disappoint. Duke's - Dangerous tree was taken down in 8 hours, only four days after we had even contacted them! - Demolition Services Near Me - Amherst, Massachusetts

They are horrible. Ben White told us that his tree people "had been dealing with trees their whole lives". When I spoke with the people cutting our trees, the guy said he had retired from another job and was just doing this for something to do. They came to trim some branches from our trees that were hanging over our neighbor's yard. Dukes came with a chainsaw and just cut with no regard for the tree and its health. The bad news for our neighbor is that if the tree dies, he is responsible for having it taken out and away, and replacing it. Our tree and property now look horrible. We called Ben to speak with him and when I confronted him, he hung up on me. Go to someone else who knows what they are doing - anyone else. read more

Benjamin White quoted 5-7k to re-insulate the crawl space under a summerhouse. It was obvious he didn't know what he was doing. The final bill was 15k, saying his quote "didn't include insulating under THAT part of the tiny little 16 foot by 16 foot house...he also did a horrible job. It's a month later and not properly insulated. Waste of money! He also said he was a contractor for over 30 years. Listen: I'm in a family of contractors. If he knows LESS than I do, as a sister fo a contractor, we're in trouble. And there's no way he passed that exam. I think he was lying, but you be the judge! Dukes has been working on my back yard including new wood fence, 10 trees removed and excavated, back yard drainage and leveling off the back with ploom. I hired Duke's to remove stuff from my home because I was downsizing. They notified me when they were on their way. The two men that arrived were very pleasant and were ready to work. All I had to do was point to what needed to go. They worked very fast and efficiently. I feel they went above and beyond to get as much stuff onto the truck for me. For that I am grateful. Ben White, the owner, is rude and unprofessional. Got a quote for job. Didnt get a proper written anything. I had to add parts of the job in the email/text because he didn't have it all in there. When I tried to request that I withhold some of the money because the stump grinding comes after the tree comes down, he got very angry and rude. Turned it around and said that I was trying to dictate the terms of the job. Not true. Just trying to cover my a$$. I decided to not have him do the job because of his behavior. Excellent experience with Duke's. On 2 acres of land, some wooded, we had - 5 trees felled - 1 old maple pruned and treated for disease/pests - 5+2 other tree trunks cleaned up and moved to a designated milling area Our experience: - They were courteous and accommodating - eager to make sure other saplings were not damaged; respectful of our neighbor's land and privacy; clean and thorough, ensuring the debris was cleaned up, carted away, and/or piled per our requests. - Clean and thorough - they left the place in very good condition - Very good communicators - they took the time to fully understand what we wanted - both on the day they inspected for their estimate, on the morning when work began, and at conclusion of work as well. Our neighbor hired Duke's to install a fence between our yards. The contractor, Duke's, trespassed in our yard and cut branches off our trees to prepare to install the fence. When confronted and informed that they did not have permission cut our trees or enter our property at all, they said "that is between you and your neighbor..." and continued, without our permission, to use our property as a staging area to for materials and installation of the fence over the next four days. These actions are highly unethical, offensive and irresponsible business practices. In retrospect, we wish we had called the police and have them removed from our property. I would never hire nor recommend Duke's to anyone. read more

We hired Duke to take down some very large trees in our WS yard. They did an amazing job. They cleaned up every branch after the job daily. Duke came back to fill in the dents in the where some of the trees fell hard. They had to come back 2x to fill in the with soil not clean fill. They took all the trees and ground up the stumps smoothed over the left over chips. The crew was very professional,& knowledgeable of what they were doing on the job site. I contacted Duke's to remove old lawn equipment, electronics, hazardous waste, tires, and broken construction equipment that had been taking up valuable space in my storage units. Two polite young men arrived on time and did their jobs quickly, professionally and efficiently, and even took the time to look for my crazy cat who had snuck out of the gate. It's rare to find a business that does good work for a decent price. When you find one, it just makes your day. Hired Dukes LLC for tree removal. Ben (owner) called to say they underbid but would still do the tree removal in a week (Saturday). Saturday came, whereupon Ben called and said truck breakdown, so can't do it for another week, so the next Saturday we had a snowstorm. Ben said now will be following Friday (now 3 weeks). Friday..crew shows up to say won't do job, not enough money in it, wants at least additional $1000.00 I had 7 different estimates. He wasn't the highest nor lowest. Main reason hired Dukes LLC was they said could do the work right away. Contacted other companies and now on waiting lists since winter has now set in. Called Ben and told him him the problems he has now caused and he could have cared less and that there wasn't enough money in the job and his employee had under estimated. Oddly, Ben had come out to see the tree, called me to let me know they underbid but would still do the work and then 3 weeks go by and he pulls the rug out from under when his crew shows up asking for more money. What can one assume from this...Ben could have called and cancelled the job, instead he had his crew show up perhaps figuring I would give in to the demand for more money since they were already here? Should have gone to another company after a truck breaking down could paralyze a company for a week ...another life lesson learned. read more
