"You have kept your word, and done exactly what you said you would do, at every step of this move. For this, I am so grateful. Y'all have been completely dependable. You have a great company going, because of this." We used Big Country Movers for moving, cleaning of townhouse, and debris removal between Aug 3rd and Aug 30, 2024 for an across town move.

I called around to different area moving companies because we needed a team who would have the equipment to move and secure large appliances and furniture (refrigerator, washer/dryer, sectional sofa, dining table, etc.). I was explicit about these needs on the phone when I called BCM the first time. I specifically asked, "Will the movers have a dolly?" and explained what needed to be loaded. The man I spoke to assured me that they would: "Oh of course, of course. We are full-service, professional movers. We will arrive with a dolly and all the equipment needed." Also, I should mention that I hired a four-person team. Only three of them did any work. The fourth, as I mentioned, referred to himself as a "supervisor" and he had a clipboard. On the day of the move, a tiny car pulled up at 12:06 (our window was 8-12) and four guys got out, no dolly in sight. My husband and I immediately asked them about this, as there was no way to load the large items without one and we had specifically requested one. (Also, who ever heard of professional movers arriving to a job with no dolly?) The supervisor said "oh yeah, well its being used at another job right now, it won't be ready for an hour. Someone will go pick it up then." So for the first hour the movers had no dolly. And then one of them had to leave to go pick it up and drive it back to us. The remaining two guys loaded boxes while waiting, which does not take long. Especially since they gave no attention to how the boxes were loaded. Many of our fragile items were loaded on the bottom, and the boxes were not braced. They literally stacked them in leaning towers with things like china and dishes on the bottom (boxes were labeled FRAGILE, DISHES) and heavy boxes of books on top of them. Oh, I should mention they loaded our dresser VERTICALLY AND ON ITS SIDE (please see photo--in this photo you can also see one of the towers of boxes). Our couch was wedged in diagonally. I regret not taking a picture because it was truly something to behold. We purchased a stack of 12 furniture pads, NONE of which were used. The movers who unloaded the truck found all of them shoved in a corner in the back of the U-Haul. Literally, wadded up and shoved into the back. All of our furniture was scratched and damaged. Every single piece. They were not wrapped (with the exception of the drawers on the sideways dresser), and again, the furniture pads were not used. The company who unloaded us (The Move Pros--they were awesome) were appalled at the way the truck was loaded. The first thing they said was "I hope you didn't pay someone to do this". They actually encouraged us to contact BCM about their horrific loading job. When we called BCM to tell them this, they said it was our fault for moving "so far". As if us moving 3 hours away (yeah, not that far) somehow retroactively caused them to load the truck poorly and prevented them from using furniture pads or wrapping our solid wood dining room table. When we questioned them about clearly marked fragile, lightweight items like dishes being packed UNDERNEATH heavy boxes of books, the guy literally said "let me explain how boxes work". I should mention that they first time I called, when the owner wasn't on the call, the supervisor admitted that the job was "trash"--yes, he used that term, and said there was no excuse for the way the truck was loaded. He suddenly changed his tune when the owner was on the phone and they spent 20+ minutes blaming us for how the truck was loaded. Even going so far as to say that we should have "made suggestions" if we didn't want it loaded that way. I know I said I wouldn't recommend this company to my worst enemy, but if a masked marauder ever murders my entire family I will exact revenge by recommending Big Country Movers for his next move.
