I was initially hesitant to take this taxi service based off the Yelp reviews but I was pleasantly surprised by the overall experience. I called the taxi service at 5:45 am, which is already a difficult time to get a taxi because most places don't start taking calls until 6 am, and they were promptly outside less than 10 mins later. The taxi van smelled fantastic to the point of me almost complimenting him on the aroma. The ride started off a little shaky because we almost had to stop for change due to me being his first ride of the day and him not having change but luckily I had the exact amount so we proceeded. Throughout the 15 min ride I learned so much about him and vice versa. At the end of the ride we were talking about sports and I was comfortable enough to make fun of his Knicks hat for obvious reasons. If you have to take Duffy's Taxi I would highly recommend Taxi Tony who rides in car 47. He is extremely friendly, makes you feel safe and will have you laughing at the end of the taxi ride. read more

Horrible. Just horrible. The scene: New Years Eve at a friend's apartment. Eight 20-somethings hanging around drinking, and want to get a Taxi to our favorite bar downtown. It was 11pm. The guy on the phone seemed annoyed I had called to request a taxi (but, having to deal with drunk kids all night, I couldn't blame him). I said I needed 8 people from my friends apartment to Mahars, and would probably need a van. "30 Minutes" he said. 50 minutes later (the time now being 11:50pm; 10 minutes from New Years) a taxi-van pulls up. We open the door to find 4 kids ALREADY SITTING IN THE VAN. Our hypothesis being that they were hoping to piggy-back off our taxi ride and avoid paying for the cab entirely, and therefore screwing my friends and I over. Three of my friends are over 6 foot tall. There was no chance we'd fit in this already half-full cab. To the current cab's occupants' (and the driver's) dismay, my friends and I made a collective "nope" and got out of the cab to light some sparklers. In all, we requested a ride for 8 people. The driver of the cab--in a possible attempt to screw us out of some extra money--brought us a half-full van with 3 open seats. Don't go with Duffy's unless you want to risk getting screwed out of a New Year in your favorite bar (or getting screwed out of a few bucks). read more

On Friday, Cab 176 did not greet me as I sat down in his cab. He was too busy scrolling through the internet. I said, "I'll wait till you're free." Eventually, he mumbled something like "Where to?" and kept checking his phone. I asked him to let me out if he had to keep doing that, but he wouldn't. I was scared and trapped. These guys are rude, the taxis are rolling pieces of junk, and they smell to high heaven. What I hate about them more than anything else is how rude they are. I have called at least six times in the past year when they've said: "we don't have any cars in the area," and then they hang up. THEN, I see like four cars go by. i was in Albany recently, and I had to call taxis to take me to the train station. When looking to catch a specific train, time is of the essence. Duffy's was the only service that delivered as promised. Other services would promise that there would be a cab within ten minutes - and I'd be waiting. Sometimes a half hour or more. When Duffy's said that there would be a cab within ten minutes, that was what happened, there was a cab within ten minutes. recommend: call Duffy's. read more

So i looked up where i wanted to go. driving was 2mins walking 7mins. when the taxi got there he didn't have a meter in his car he had to call in to check the rates. Would use again for an airport ride! I had originally planned on taking a taxi by Capitaland Taxi to get to the airport. I called the night before. Capitaland kept me waiting for a HALF AN HOUR! I called Duffy's and they were there in 5 minutes. I canceled with Capitaland, who then proceeded to scream over the phone, Duffy's was nice and helpful. Only critique, my cab driver didn't help me with my luggage... Kind of rude, but I'm over it. Definitely recommend over Capitaland, especially for a flight. Boom! read more

Awful service! We took a 4 minute can ride to the grocery store and the guy charged us $16 which is a joke. When I asked the driver why it was so expensive he couldn't even give me a straight answer.. And there's no meter so you have no idea where he's getting the info!! Over the course of two days there rates changes, which lead me to believe some of their drivers are skimming off the top. Also, they gave misquoted times for there drivers to arrive, "Be there in 2 min" when really they meant 20 mins. I need to find another cab company next time I am in Albany. read more

If I could give 0 stars then I would. I was picked up by this company along with my friends at 4 in the morning by a popular bar. He already had 2 people in the cab. We asked the driver to make 2 stops...one 3 blocks away and one about a mile and a half away. He dropped off the first lone girl and refused to move until I had paid him $10: $5 for her and $5 for me, who was still in the cab. He drove us another mile, but refused to drop us at our house. So instead, at 4 in the morning, 3 girls ended up walking a half mile home at the cost of $20. (The driver complained that there were multiple stops on his radio despite the fact that he had picked up multiple parties). I called the company to complain when I finally got home. They berated me because I did not have the cab number, then they hung up on me. They claimed there was no way they could have known who drove me despite the fact that the driver called in both stops. The customer service was appalling; not only in the cab but also on the phone. I recognize, that there are lots of drunk people that use your service, but I do not deserve poor treatment automatically. There are no other options in Albany but to take what comes your way, but we deserve better than to be treated like ignorant cattle. You better believe I will be writing a letter to my representative as well as the Times Union. I will also call tomorrow to complain about the treatment I received this evening. I encourage anyone else reading this to complain about the disgusting service that we receive here in Albany. I refuse to drive drunk, and for that I am punished by the abusive taxi system. I know there is little choice when it is 3am, and you cannot drive home. However, I demand a better system and beg you to do the same. read more

I called at about 1:45pm on a monday and asked for a taxi at 2:30. Taxi showed up right on time. Minivan was a bit old but driver was very nice, quick ride to the Amtrak station and charge was $2 less than dispatcher told me it would be. I have no complaints for the money. read more

I wish I could give zero stars because I absolutely cannot stand Duffy's taxi company. I work front desk at a hotel and have to call cab companies atleast twice a day for guests. Duffy's is definetely not on the top of my list to start because of their service but when all other cab companies are unable to because all their cars are in use I am forced to have to call..... So most of the time when I use Duffy's they will say something like fifteen minutes and casually show up in 20, or I will call after they are already late and they will say ten more minutes and hang up on me or they will say the cab already came and left and then hang up on me(which they did not). The most obnoxious case has to be when I schedule a cab for say 7:45 am for a guest, the cab will show up at 7:40 am and the driver will come inside, I will then call the guest to let them know the cab is here and they say they won't be down for another five minutes (as scheduled) and then I turn around for a minute and the cab will just LEAVE without saying anything! I will call the cab company immediately as I have the guest standing in front of me, and they will start yelling at me that their driver could not sit there and wait for the guest and that they do not have any other cars available to come back. On top of all of the lateness and no shows, the dispatcher whenever I call is extremely rude and loves to hang up during mid-sentence. read more

The worse taxi ride I have ever taken. Because of Uber's ridiculous surcharge, I called them at 6:50 pm for a 10-minute ride. The dispatcher, who I could tell was full of crap and more slippery than a snake, said he had a driver in the area. He quoted me $25. I accepted. 30 minutes later, I called to check the status. The dispatcher told me he was about 1.5 miles away. 30 minutes after that, I called and was told he was on my road driving towards me. 20 minutes after that, the driver arrived. I called the dispatcher and asked for $5 off. He said I would have to ask the driver. What?! When I got in the cab, the driver didn't even know where I was going. I told him I would pay $20. He then said, "It's company policy to ask for the money up front." Bulk crap! I just took one of their taxis last week and wasn't asked that. As a Black male, I have to wonder what that was about. I was just released from the ER and had no phone, wallet, or anything at all on me. I called Duffys cab and the man said 20 min. An hour later....I called back and he said 'oh, i just got in and we dont have that many guys, Ill send one in ten min" So when the cab finally came he said with his half missing teeth Im sorry we cant bring you home without any money....even though I had money at the house. I called Duffy's because they were reliable for my husband who used them to go to the airport very early in the morning, like 4-5 am. They knew the address, said they thought it would be okay and took my number in case they couldn't take me. I ordered the cab for 8 am. At precisely 8 am, when I needed to leave, I got a call saying, no cab for at least 20 minutes. Had they called at 7:30 or even 7:45, I could have tried another cab service. As it was, I had to drive myself and pay for long-term parking. I would never use them again. read more

Awful. Driver was sitting in front of my home honking his horn for at least 5 minutes. Went out to see who he was waiting for-- he was at the wrong address. He told me "don't get smart" when I told him he was at the wrong place. Called to complain and the dispatcher denied being there, that it was another company. I strongly advise you to use a different taxi company if ever you need a ride in the Albany area. I'll explain why. My girlfriend and I were flying back to Albany after a week in Florida we spent around the New Year. We needed a ride from the airport and I had seen many Duffy's cabs driving around Albany with their number emblazoned on the side of their cabs. How I wish I never put their number in my phone in case I ever needed a ride. Initially, the experience started off okay. I called them from the airport in Florida to arrange a ride. A curt man on the other line asked me what time I'd be arriving (10:35pm), quoted me a $25 price and said a vehicle would be waiting when we arrived. We were actually ten minutes late getting to the taxi, but the driver was waiting right outside of baggage claim in a van, and he said the wait was no problem. So far so good. If he had driven straight to our place in Center Square I would be giving them a five star review right now. Instead he says, "The only thing is I have to make another pickup by Colonie Center." At that point, I felt I didn't have a choice in the matter. Plus, a quick pick up didn't seem like a big deal if it was in route. It all went downhill from there. The driver proceeds to some office buildings located in back roads off Central Ave. We pull up and sit there for fifteen minutes before I finally ask him if his guy was coming or not. The driver says that he would leave him if he doesn't come soon. After five more minutes of waiting for the guy who doesn't show, the driver pulls away only to pull a u-turn a hundred yards down the road when his phone starts ringing. So the guy obviously called him back and the driver obliged. We pull up, wait another five minutes, and the guy we've been waiting for a half an hour finally comes out of the building. He was clearly working as a late night office cleaner. The driver and the guy we picked up had some rapport so from what I could gather the driver regularly picks him up. They were probably taking advantage of my airport pickup which was "around" the same time as his buddy's late night shift ended. The man that was picked up after us was dropped off first and I saw no money exchanged by the driver or the guy. We finally got dropped off in Center Square at a quarter to midnight after meeting the taxi at the airport at 10:45. On top of that the driver charged $30 instead of the $25 I was quoted on the phone because we were two people instead of one. I was too tired to argue over $5 knowing that I would take the time to write a detailed negative review, which I hope results in Duffy's losing more than the $30 I paid for that horrible experience. I called for taxi at 3:30am from er by the time I hung the phone up and turned around there was my taxi! Duffys driver was very kind asked if I was ok and asked if his smoking or music bothered me. I used to use there service 5 yrs ago for my job at Amtrak and they always were prepared for me. I would recommend again read more

Incredibly rude and obnoxious! I never even got a chance to ride with them! Needed to get 8 people from Rensselaerville back to Albany to catch a bus on a Saturday morning. Called on Thursday to make a reservation for Saturday morning and was unceremoniously told I would have to call back the next day. Called back on Friday and said I needed a pick up in Rensselaerville for 930 the next morning. The guy cut me off and said I'd have to call back in the morning. I said I'd called the day before and been told to call back today for a reservation tomorrow and he cut me off again and said he wouldn't know until tomorrow what cars were available and that anyway they were in Albany, not Rensselaerville. As I tried to explain that we were coming BACK to Albany, he hung up on me. Was not REMOTELY surprised so see so many negative reviews and stories of awful service. Avoid these guys like the plague. read more
