If you're looking for a tasty, reasonably-priced meal then look no further. I've visited this famous Malad eatery several times over the years and never have I left unsatisfied. Although I've never ordered anything that I didn't enjoy, my favorite dish is the crispy Chicken Malibu sandwich which comes with fries and a trip to the BEST little salad bar in Idaho. They have at least 10 potato side options, welcome back to Idaho. Most of our food was average diner fare but one of us had the chicken fried steak and declared it incredible. They are open until 7:30pm most nights!!! Beware the times listed...call! So glad we did, as we were able to have the place to ourselves in the mid-afternoon. Despite it being a slow time (kinda right between lunch and dinner), the salad bar had just been restocked--so everything was fresh. Eggwhites in the chopped egg were slightly rubbery--and if THAT is my only nitpick... They bring a fresh, baked-there mini-loaf on its own bread board, along with honey to go with the butter! Chicken-fried steak was moist, with good flavor, prepared in a nice homemade batter. Corn was meh, but gravy was good, with above average mashed potatoes. They have giblets!! If you're into that. (!!) The homemade pie looks great...Also, a small but completely satisfying softy cone was included in our meal! Cheesecake or strawberry flavors, on our day. Service was terrific-- Lana (sp?) was warm and friendly, didn't seem to mind us taking time to go through the big menu, happily answered questions and made our respite that much nicer. read more

This is such a cute and family friendly diner! Our family likes to go here for lunch, for dinner, and sometimes just for big snacks. The food is delicious and they have such classic food withwith bold flavor. The employees are so nice and go out of their way to make you comfortable and to make sure that your food is absolutely delicious! This place was amazing!!! The food was so good!! The salad bar is small but so fresh! The French fries are yummy! I had the steak, my friend had fish and my husband had the hot beef on toast. This place was amazing with home made mashed potatoes, curly fries, hand-breaded meats, and a waitress that knew the menu front and back. (She told us she has worked there over 20 yrs so the owners are good to her). I had their famous chicken sandwich and it was so tender on a home made toasted bun! The salad bar was really good for such small place with very fresh lettuce and they gave us a plastic glove to put our hand in when touching the serving spoons. As a physician from out of state just getting past the recent Covid crisis, I loved that! Definitely worth getting off the interstate to go there. Yesterday we were in Malad attending a funeral and a very large group (at least 30 maybe 40 people) of us descended on this cafe unannounced and they took great care of us. The food was delicious diner style food the service was great and even with so many people they cranked out the food in record time! And they did it all with a welcome smile. The menu is huge. Ordered fish and chips. It was ok, would choose something different if I went there again. The gals helping were very friendly. Some of the meals came with small loaves of bread, those were yummy. They had large tables for bigger groups and also table for 2. They don't have a soda fountain, pop is in cans. I went to Malad to buy some lottery tickets last Saturday night and thought I'd give this place a try. The salad bar was just restocked and so it tasted good. However, I asked what their best dish was and the waitress stated without pause "the ribeye". My partner and I each ordered a 16 oz. ribeye, medium rare as we were very hungry. What we got was so bad it is almost beyond describing. First, it was not ribeye. Those pieces of shoe leather were so tough we joked about needing a chain saw to cut them. There was absolutely NO marbling! Second, it took forever for the steaks to even be delivered to our table. And they were medium well at that point. Third, the loaf of bread was microwaved to warm it up so in just a few moments it turned hard to chew. Fourth, the fries were cold and the fry sauce was warm and rancid. I only ate a few bites before giving up on the whole thing. When the waitress finally came back by I told her my complaints but she did nothing but shrug and ask if we wanted containers for our steaks. I said yes that maybe my dogs would like them because we didn't. $37 for a poor meal burns my @&$! read more

We came to the Dude Ranch Cafe after my dad's graveside service yesterday. We hadn't planned on having a luncheon but everyone just wanted to stay together a little longer. We descended on you all like a horde of hungry locusts without any warning. The serving staff was so kind and gracious, quickly setting up tables, and dealing with all the split checks. More came than we even anticipated and you handled us all without a complaint. The food was served hot and fast and was absolutely delicious! You even gave us all tasty ice cream cones before we left. I can't thank you enough for the care you took of us in our time of grief. Finally got the chance and not only was the service terrible, but so was the food. I literally felt like I was eating a boot and the ham was beyond disgusting. One of my favorites in Malad. I love the beef nuggets and the salad bar. The mashed potatoes and gravy are the best comfort food. The chicken fried steak and chicken chunks are also very yummy. This is a great place to go with a big group. The only bummer is that it is closed at random times when the owners travel. Went up to the horse races and stopped in for some dinner with the family. When I first walked in, I didn't think I was going to like it. However, the staff was very friendly and the food was great! I got the roast beef dinner that came with a wonderful salad bar and my own loaf of bread. They also gave us complimentary raspberry ice cream. We had three families traveling to vacation in Jackson Hole. Our lunch stop was at the Dude Ranch Café. One of the children wants to be a Cowboy when he grows up. When all 9 of us walked in there were two real Cowboys eating lunch, They took there picture with him and told him about being Cowboys. It as a memorable thing.
