Had a few hiccups with the pin setter which is normal, but the interface is very simple to reset the Service was good, at the front counter, I've seen a lot of bad reviews about the management here but we did not have an issue. Maybe we got lucky or it was a different employee not sure. Got a few drinks at the bar, which we were allowed to bring out to our lane. The only issue I had, was that there was no server for drinks where other bowling allies in the area have at least one on everyday. Overall 4/5 good experience.

During that visit, the staff were accommodating and allowed our students to remain in their own shoes. So when we returned, we reasonably expected the same level of understanding and accommodation. Instead, we were flat-out refused. Even more frustratingly, when we explained that the staff had accommodated our students during our previous visit, we were essentially told that it didn't matter. Apparently, basic consistency and consideration are too much to ask. But that wasn't even the worst part. When we arrived, the kitchen was closed. One of our students had intentionally skipped lunch at school because he was excited about getting something to eat at the bowling alley. Rather than let him go hungry, we ordered him Burger King through DoorDash. When the food arrived, the staff had the audacity to DEMAND that our special needs student eat his food OUTSIDE. Let that sink in. A child with special needs, who was there on a school outing, was told that he couldn't eat his own food inside. Meanwhile, just a few lanes away, another group was openly eating cake they had apparently brought with them. They appeared to know the staff and were chatting with them comfortably. So apparently the rules depend on who you are. Friends of the staff can bring food in and eat it inside, but a special needs student who needs something to eat because your own kitchen is closed has to take his meal outside? That is beyond disappointing. It is humiliating, insensitive, and completely unacceptable. We brought students there expecting a fun and inclusive experience. Instead, we left feeling like our students were being treated as an inconvenience simply for needing a little understanding and accommodation. If this is how you treat children with special needs, especially children who are there as part of a school outing, you should seriously reconsider how you train your staff and how you treat your customers. Absolutely shameful. I would strongly encourage other schools and families of children with special needs to think twice before choosing this establishment

The lanes themselves are well maintained in terms of finish and mechanics of the pinsetting equipment considering the business has been in operation for OVER 50 YEARS. They do lack automatic scoring, however in Candlepin bowling, automatic score systems are not always accurate due to the the use of felled pins in subsequent shots. Frankly, if you have a problem with writing on a piece of paper to keep score and think that is a reason to complain, you're a moron. Additionally they have a nice array of Brunswick tournament class billiard tables. There is also a bar and lounge with a decent selection for such a small operation and everything is modestly priced. My only reason for giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because their hours fluctuate unpredictably. Generally one can find them open on a weekend afternoon, but if you're looking for something to do after 10PM, it's rare that they're open that late. I highly recommend a quick call prior to arriving to confirm availability. Do yourself a favor and experience the classic New England tradition known as Candlepin Bowling at Canal Lanes.

The arcade had a great assortment for kids in terms of games to play and prizes. But the amount of points needed for each one averaged about 7 points. Most were 8. My son brought home a basketball, amount other things, with just a little over 1000 points. I think a basketball at Chuck E Cheese is 3000-4000 points. While my son was deciding what to spend his points on, a very kind gentleman behind me asked if he liked Pikachu. I told him YES! He had the girl scan his card and kindly had her give my son this GIGANTIC PIKACHU that was 7,500 points. My son was in Heaven. I acknowledged and proceeded to pay for our lane. He came by again within 5 min to let our whole party know, again, that no outside food or beverage was allowed. (We heard the message loud and clear the first time.) The happy meal was still sealed and never touched. I got up instantly to throw it away in front of my son to adhere to thier policy. He cried, but thankfully we were spared a third reminder. I felt like this was very unprofessional and extremely rude. We spent over $200 while we were there. I will not be going back.
