Mary and Rahe do a great job with customers and making suggestions. But I was just passing through Middletown, where I used to have family connections, and found myself walking along Central Avenue... when I saw the store-front for Crab Apple Books. An excellent supply of books - of all types! I am interested in history, history of science, and older books - and I found good examples of all, at very good prices. It is also a coffee shop, and it looks like it could be a mellow place to hang out for a while. Not too much happening on Central Avenue - but it would be cool if this were the start of life coming back to downtown Middletown!

There also is a second floor which may be dedicated to a children's area; not positive as I didn't go up there. I am always on the lookout for old books as in 70-plus years, but not a whole lot in that department here as far as sorted items. There was a big stack of aged books but not catalogued. Believe me, I would have gladly pulled up a stool and reviewed the entire stack but as is often the case, the impatient husband was waiting in the car so I couldn't prolong my visit. I did grab a great sci-fi classic by Isaac Asimov; the book is pretty beat up but one dollar! Also spotted a tote bag featuring cats and books so that went home with me for sure. There are places to sit if you want to chill and read for a while. The lady behind the counter indicated that I could contact them for any old books I am searching for. Happy that they have Sunday hours and looking forward to a future visit.

They had a nice collection of books ranging from romance, fiction, fantasy etc. on social media you can see when they are doing DnD nights, movie nights, and more. The owner and staff working were very accommodating and pleasant. The atmosphere is adventurous and cozy. Overall, just a great experience and look forward to coming out on a movie night. The decor is old school and soothing and the different genres are marked on the outside of the shelves. I was disappointed to not see a dedicated area for horror/weird fiction. I enquired about Lovecraft and the very helpful male staff member told me nothing was in at the moment. He directed me to fantasy/science fiction and I did find a book to my liking. He also found me a small collection of Poe which I also secured for my library. I was also advised that I can let them know of books or authors that I'm seeking and they would let me know if anything comes in. The store is big so I know there is much more for me to explore next visit and they have several cozy sitting areas where you can just read, or have a cup of tea as well. I am looking forward to visiting again soon and updating.
