Nice vibe and great people there! I went on a Saturday and they have some games and snacks as well as food trucks outside. I just wish they had some more drink options also they had just ran out of the stout when we went. Calamansi sour is pretty refreshing but I was hoping to try their pandan beer. I think their website is pretty updated so you can see the menu and food trucks served. Apparently that's seasonal for lunar new year so I'll be back next month to try.
A hidden gem tucked right in the heart of the neighborhood. The perfect escape from the city noise, offering a peaceful and inviting atmosphere to relax and unwind. Whether you're catching up with friends or enjoying a friendly chat with the staff, the experience is always warm and welcoming. The drinks are simply outstanding, crafted with prime ingredients, always refreshing and full of flavor every single time. And the best part, the prices are incredibly affordable for the quality you get. Easily a 5-star spot!
This is easily one of the coolest places to have a drink in San Jose, but it also defines an out-of-the-way in the wall. DTSJ Brewing is located on the outskirts of downtown tucked in the corner of a residential area near a train track, which means one thing -- parking is a bit of a journey. I've only given this place one visit, and I had to park one street over. This is why it doesn't get a perfect score. That aside, everything else about is great. The bar has a factory/brewery atmosphere with a small area that includes a couch and bigger table, and outside there's typically always a food truck since the establishment doesn't serve any food. I was here in October for Filipino American History Month, and they had this special ube beer on tap. It was really good--it had a hint of sweetness and went down as easy as a Pilsner. There was also a solid calamansi beer that I also have pictured. While I was clearly there for a special release, the vibes of the place and the cool bartenders make this spot one I'll definitely come back to in the very near future.
My friend had invited me along because he really wanted to try their limited Ube Illin beer. They only do it for Filipino heritage month. Honestly, they should permanently add this to their menu because it was DELICIOUS! I'm always skeptical of "ube" flavored things because it's such a gimmick that tends to lean towards an overly sweet and artificial taste. Ube Illin, however, was far from it. When you begin to take a sip, you can already smell the ube. The taste was sweet and aromatic. My friends said it leaned more towards a wine which I could see. Either way, it was very yummy. I could have downed a few pints if I stayed there all night. It seemed that most people were there to try the Ube Illin. Apparently they sold cans the prior day, but they sold out within 30 minutes of opening. Big sad :( The brewery is tucked in the midst of single family homes so it's very low key, but it was still poppin'. It's kind of like an open garage type of vibe. They are dog-friendly and even have a jar of treats on the counter which is awesome! They also have rotating food trucks right outside. I met the owners and they are very friendly and welcoming. It seems that they like to experiment with Asian flavors. One of them told me they were trying out a pandan beer for February which I'm really looking forward to.
In A Nutshell: -DTSJ is a cool, little brewery that's 100% local. -I like the layout, it gives me old Hermitage vibes. -After moving out of SJ, this brewery is new to me. -I really enjoyed the Hazy IPA, the pint came out cold, strong 6.8% & smooth! -Their 9.3% San Antonio Stout was also a great beer. Overall, I really respect the dedication & craft that Brian shared w/ me during my first visit. Super locally sourced ingredients!
Another great brewery in San Jose. We had a flight of good brews and were treated to The White Album on vinyl- I could probably stop this five star review with that. But... There was a fun, hopping vibe on a Saturday night. Plenty of place to park on the street in this unassuming San Jose neighborhood (near downtown, but not actually downtown, downtown). The bartenders were awesome. They're personable and fun and know their beers. One of the owners even took the time to explain me the difference in taste and brewing process for kettle sours and regular sours. And, upon request, recommended some other great California breweries that we haven't tried yet. Food truck outside, but we didn't try it. I can confirm that it smelled great, though. Best local brewery in the neighborhood. Great selection. Friendly staff. Awesome variety of food trucks. Amazing vinyl play list with all the jams. Dog friendly. Ride your bike or find some street parking. Having a nice cold one after a long day while supporting small businesses! Cheers
Awesome newish brewery. Beers were all pretty good and I'm pretty particular about craft beers lol. They had 12 beers on tap. Nice variety. Normal prices. The ube wheat beer seems to be everyones favorite, flavor and taste is on point. We also liked the NE ipa and red ale a lot. The others we tried were decent as well. The owners are very friendly and let you sample before you commit. They also make an effort to learn everyones name. They said their more into making rotating seasonal brews rather than having a static menu. As of now, not many to go options, but they plan to expand those options soon. They usually have some kind of food for purchase available but you can bring your own as well. They provide free individual chip bags from Costco lol. Very nice of them. Not a big place, all seating is inside their garage type building. Lots of heat lamps. 1 bathroom only so prepare to wait when it's busy. Located in a residential area. Street parking is no problem. Hours are very limited as of now. Only open Fri and Sat nights.
One of my favorite breweries in the Bay Area that has that 100% ESSJ spirit, nestled in an unassuming residential neighborhood -super friendly owners who really get to know their community -delicious pop up vendors every weekend (usually focused on API businesses) -unique brews that continuously rotate. Dave and team are really passionate about their craft! Would love to try their ube beer someday!
Great beer and food! The owners are supper friendly, they make you feel at home. You can try the beers before buy. We loved the Ube beer! Very unique. They have good music and good catering. Parking can be tricky but worth it.

I've been hearing about this brewery for a couple of years now, especially because they have Ube beer! I finally got around to trying this brewery out because I saw that they had both an ube AND pandan seasonal beer available! I love that they consistently update their website with the types of beers they have on tap, so that can be useful if you're looking for a specific flavor! They also seem to have a rotating number of varying food trucks and food vendors, so it's great to stay updated on their instagram to know what food they'll be serving! Now onto the brewery itself! I was very surprised to find out that they were in the middle of a neighborhood so it can be kind of challenging to find parking, since it's all street parking. The inside was actually pretty small as well, with a couple of tables outside and some tables inside. However, it was very lively with one of the workers spinning some vinyl! It's honestly a great place to catch up with some friends with good food and even better beer! I ended up going on a day where they had a Filipino food truck, which paired super nicely with the beers we got! We got to try their Ube Illin, which was very vibrant and nutty, as well as their pandan beer called Một, Hai, Ba, Dô! Both were very full-flavored but not super overpowering where you can still taste the aromatics of the beer! TLDR; This place has unique flavors, delicious beer, and is a great place for chill hangouts! read more
Enjoyed our chill time here on Saturday. Unique experience in the middle of a neighborhood in a big garage! Feels homey like ur hanging out in someone's house garage in a good way. The 2 beers i tried were very good. I got the Ube Illin' and 5. Dee-lite. Ube is more thick and rich but so tasty! And the dee lite was a perfect refreshing lite beer. Loved they have games to play like Jenga and Boggle. It was pretty empty around 5pm but picked up considerably by 8pm and the place was packed. I def wanna come back to enjoy more beers! read more

This is a local gem... The vibes are so chill, pop-up food vendors have the good eats and the beer... The beer is so tasty! Very few have ridden the trail Cobbler, but everyone can enjoy this WC IPA with it's crispy front and juicy finish... Shout out to Ron, Stan and the crew for not just providing a great place for friends to hang out, but spinning vinyl through a badass stereo takes it to another level. Love DTSJ read more

Such a great neighborhood hangout. The beers are amazing and everyone is very friendly. It has such a chill vibe with overstuffed couches, board games and even free snacks. They have a wide range of great beers on tap and will be happy to give you a sample. The seasonal Ube beer is a real treat and it is bright purple. We randomly stumbled on the place while taking our dog for a walk and decided to stop in. We asked if we could bring our dog and they said "Yes, and we have organic dog treats and filtered water for your dog." I can see why everyone in the neighborhood loves this place, I will be coming back often! read more

I'm here to validate all the previous Yelp reviews are absolutely true of DTSJ Brewing. This is THE quintessential neighborhood brewery taproom, it is literally on a residential street. Parking could be a challenge, but please don't let that deter you from visiting (pro move: take Uber/Lyft). As others have said, the owner/brewer, Ron, is such a nice guy. DTSJ Brewing is like hanging out in your favorite cousin's living room because Ron makes you feel welcome as soon as you arrive. I didn't get a chance to ask Ron if he is a Certified Beer Cicerone because his knowledge of beers is amazing as he hands you a pint and clearly explains the types of hops used and even where the grains are sourced. Highly recommended this place. I'll definitely be back for more beers and an East Side Red Ale shirt! Thanks DTSJ Brewing for a fun Saturday!! read more

I've been here several times. I normally come Fridays or Saturdays. It's never too busy when I cannot find a seat. The place is very aired out with the garage door or wall open on one long side. They usually have a food company who sells food, but we can also bring our own food and snacks. One of the owners, Ron and his wife Ingrid are very nice and friendly. Ron always comes around and says hi and make chit chat. This week they have the Ube beer. It's so good that we went back two days straight. Prices are good too. Very chill place. They let you sample before you commit too. 1 big restroom but I never have to wait. It's also dog friendly. They serve a variety of beers. Usually I go for the hazy IPAs, wheat, blonde, dark, NE ipa. They make their beers in the brewery. It's walking distance to our friends apartment so we come here often. read more

They have many beers on draft--both traditional styles and experimental ones. Try that ube wheat beer while you still can! What a great find! Really looking forward to tasting the rest of their beers on future visits. FYI that they're currently open on Fridays and Saturdays only. Brewmasters Ron & Dave and their wives run the taproom themselves... Dave greeted us when we arrived, offered tastes of the beers on tap, and chatted about what went into making them. As another review mentioned, their knowledge of brewing methods and ingredients is encyclopedic. They rotate through food trucks every night, have ample seating for groups, and even have games available. Dave plays great music from his collection of vintage vinyl. The music is not too loud and they have no TVs... two conscious choices I applaud: they want to be a place where friends and neighbors can hang out, meet and chat rather than zone out anonymously, and it shows! The biggest surprise of the night? My wife liked two of the 3 beers she tried! When she apologetically told Dave she doesn't like beer, he nevertheless offered her some tastes of their more unusual options... and she liked their excellent "DTSJ 12" (a 12% ABV Belgian Quadruple, aka "Quad") so much, she ordered a glass of it! They describe their quad as a "wine lover's beer" -- it's different from typical beer styles you find in the US, and I really enjoyed it, too. Layered complexity, low bitterness, and not at all "boozy" despite the high alcohol content. This style of beer originated in ancient Trappist monasteries (mostly in Belgium) where monks have been brewing strong ale for centuries... DTSJ's version reminded me a LOT of some terrific monastery-brewed ale I had in Germany, but this may be even tastier! Usually you can only taste what's on tap, but later in the evening they brought out a bottle of their "Funky Cal" farmhouse ale and offered us tastes... we both liked that, too. It actually reminded me of a very dry champagne... light, effervescent and refreshing. I love stouts, so I first sampled the "Stonegate" they have on draft... it's a great medium-bodied stout, reminiscent of some oatmeal stouts I've had. I wound up ordering a bottle (~16oz!) of their "Black is Beautiful" imperial stout, which was excellent... dense, strong (10%) and complex, with just the right amount of hops I like in a stout. Dave and Ron's brewing philosophy is big on California ingredients, traditional European brewing yeasts & methods, variety, and balanced flavors -- they're not interested in joining the trend towards ever more extremely hoppy IPAs, for instance. Anyway, my wife and I (and several neighbors who've also tried it out) highly recommend DTSJ Brewing Co... come out and support this new, local, small business gem! read more
Parking is a little tricky, but it is just general street parking! Service is unbeatable. So nice, happy, and helpful! Plus one of the beertenders came around with a basket of snacks for us to choose from, which I haven't experience before! They don't offer flights, but do offer 5 oz pours. They are dog friendly and kid friendly! read more

Great little local brewery! Nice to see a couple of guys living out my dream and making some great beer! I really like their Triple IPA, lager, and Ube beer! Came to this place base on the yelp reviews and was shocked that it was so packed full of people. It was fun to have the owner tell us about the history of the place and the beer! Stumbled upon this little hidden gem, that won't be hidden for too long! The beers are all great! My favorite is the Melange! If you love super sour, this is for you! The owners are also very nice, and welcoming! We are so happy we decided to drop in! We love that it's a stones throw away from home, and super pup friendly! They even put out a fresh bowl of water and a jar of treats for our fur baby! We will be back! Highly recommended for a yummy cold on, on a hot Summer night! read more

Do they have other drinks available for people who don't drink beer?
We have non-alcoholic drinks such as sodas, root beer and flavored sparkling water. We also have beers that are geared more toward wine drinkers. We’ll pour you a sample if you want to try any of our beers. We don’t make gluten free beers, however.
On their web site DTSJ says "Music is our jam" and talk about their vintage equipment for playing vinyl records. If you bring in your own old vinyl record will they play a requested cut for you?
The owners program their own sets in advance around a theme. I don't know if they would play on the fly music they didn't own, or music that didn't go with the set. But they are very accommodating. Maybe one of them would include your tune at a…
