"Excuse me, how do we get to the ocean?"…read more I was standing at a corner near Westlake Park waiting for the light to turn when a lady and her daughter came up to me and asked me this question. I pointed them towards Elliott Bay. We were definitely nowhere near the Pacific Ocean but I was pretty sure they wanted to get to the waterfront. I chuckled a little after they went on their merry way. It was an organic, human connection that happened during my lunch break. This wasn't the first time someone came up to me and asked me for directions. I kinda expect it when I'm around the retail/hotel district. I'm ok helping folks out; it's a test of my own navigational skills. When my cousins and I were kids we used to run through the park's water fountain. They shut the water off years ago though. They say it's broken but I think people bathed in it or used it as a toilet. Blech. Supposedly they're going to remove this art piece and make way for a redesign. Westlake Mall used to have an outdoor patio overlooking the park. You used to have an aerial view of the Salish basket weave pattern. Then the mall got rid of the top floor food court and decided to close off the patio section. Unless you work in a nearby building it's hard to view the public art's entirety. Kitty corner from the park on 4th & Pine is a building where The Bon Marché used to be. Every winter they would install a giant star on the SE corner of that building. It's lit up to brighten the dark days. Walking past this building always reminded me of the Day-O, One Day Sale jingle. They hold special events and activities year round. They also host food trucks during the workweek. It's easy to get here. Just take the bus to Westlake Center or the light rail to Westlake Station. Side note: If you have time, check out the 80-foot Sequoia Tree a block away. Man In Tree made it popular :) Also, if you're looking for free brochures and visitor guides they have stands at the Convention Center Arch Building, Pike Place Market, the Seattle Ferry Terminal, and King Street Station.

It keeps people away from the tunnel traffic along that road. It's still a work in progress with many developments planned in the future. There's still a lot of construction near Belltown as of June 2025. We stayed in a hotel near the park. It's super close to Pier 66. The park currently connects Pioneer Square with Pier 62, and has great views of Elliott Bay. We took the elevator up to the Overlook Walk so that we could gain access to Pike Place Market. There are also stairs that take you there from each side of the walkway. I don't remember it being this easy back in 2011. Heck, I don't even remember seeing the ferris wheel at Pier 57. When did that happen? It's a large and beautiful greenspace that's perfect for locals & tourists alike. We kind of lost our bearings for a bit, but then it became all clear that we were headed the right way to the market. I really like what they have done here. It will be cool to see it again once it's all done, and there's no more construction. It was a nice walk along the bay.

When I visited, there were cyclists, roller skaters, people flying kites, numerous dog-walkers and even a pair out walking their pet goats!? Totally amazing atmosphere. On clear days, there are great views of Seattle and surrounding mountains. On lucky days, you can spot orca whales! Keep an eye out especially during the fall and winter, or if you're particularly committed, there are several social media groups dedicated to posting about whale sightings. You might just want to bring along a pair of binoculars whenever you visit...just in case. There's street parking that's a close stroll to the beach, and one public washroom that I could find.

Chief Seattle and his tribe greeted them and helped them build their cabin to stave off the cold, wet winter." Little did that settlers know that a little over 100 years following this the beach would be a party beach with teens driving up and down the street with their loud motors, bonfires and Bluetooth speakers and other activity clearly trying to draw attention. The beach itself is nice but it's way crowded. I came here and it was only like mid-April, and it happened to be a decent day with some sun but boy was it crowded and noisy. Like a lot of beaches parking is a bit touch and go as well with mostly street parking that you have to luck out with. I'm told you can walk and bike your way downtown from here which must be interesting. While Alki is nice, the vibe seems totally for the young blood out here trying to impress one another. Lincoln Park beach is a bit more my scene.

At least, from the outside, it looks great. Yesler Terrace Park About the park itself, it's a very cool park. Covered in artificial turf without the gritty bits (or maybe those are all rubbed off by now), the playsets are inviting and well maintained in excellent condition. During our visit, multiple families and children were playing here. Always a good sign for the park! This adult may or may not have went down the slides a few times. I'm not telling. The 10th Avenue S Hillclimb Located slightly south of the park, these stairs connect the housing community to the International District. It's WONDERFULLY designed with a central set of stairs (north-south), a bike groove, and a ramp walk (east-west) decorated with glass mosaic art. This is a must visit to enjoy these art. Hoa Mai Gardens Between the Hilclimb and park is Hoa Mai Gardens. The Gardens itself is a community p-patch, nothing exciting, but there is additional mosaic art here with ladybug theme. Other notes: - Enjoy the view while standing above the park or along Fir Street and see the stadiums and beyond. - Enjoy the many art pieces and murals that dot the community. - I suggest doing the walk that cuts through between Yesler & Fir, 8th and Broadway diagonally also. There's a map near the park to direct you.
