I called Terry around lunch time on a Tuesday to repair a hole in my wall. He was in the middle of another job but still made every effort to get to me the same day. Due to our schedules, it was difficult to work out a time but he ended up coming by after all of his other work around 8:30pm...left around 9:30. I was extremely happy with his work...the wall was not "standard" and would have been difficult for a novice to repair. He was very responsive and made every effort to work with my schedule. On top of that, he was a nice guy. I'd definitely use him again. read more

Recently had some recessed lights installed, and was referred to Terry by our electrician, I sent him the photos of the work, he quickly replied with a quote, and we worked to schedule him. He showed up on time, and got the job done, and done really well. It's a bit more noticeable in the pictures I attached of the patch (since we haven't painted it yet), but in person it's done so well that you almost don't even need to paint it. read more

1. Terry was referred to us by our electrician, so we took him up on it. However, Terry wanted more money for initial deposit than CSLB allowed, which should been a warning that we overlooked, but we gave him the money to buy the material because he is a small business. 2. The day before the job Terry came over to assist me in moving some stuff out of the way, which was nice, but he wanted more money afterwards of which I flatly refused. 3. Start date - Terry text me 3 mins prior to start time and said he'd be 45 mins late. He ended up being 1:10 mins late. He was planning on working late without giving me any advance notice, and when I called him on it, he got snappy with me. 4 now on the second day, once again he did not leave until 7 p.m. Or later but in a hurry and left a high temperature heating lamp on in a pile of plastic. This was a fire hazard and by the time I got to my kitchen, I could already smell plastic starting to melt. I quickly unplugged the lamp and called Terry and told him what had happened and he just gave a "non-chalant" type of "sorry, you can unplug it". Unplug it? He didn't even pay attention to what said! 5. Last day - once again, he worked late into the evening and as they were cleaning up, I inspected areas that they worked in to make sure nothing was missed. I pointed out an area by the hallway bath and Terry yelled at me, saying "WHY DON'T YOU JUST GET OUT OF HERE AND LET ME DO MY WORK!" SAY WHAT???? OH NO HE DIDN'T! !! IT'S ON! I lit into his ass and read him the riot act!!! I told him that it was MY HOUSE & how dare him to tell me to get out of my house!!! That's when my husband came in and told him to apologize, and made it clear that WE WERE THE ONES Writing THE PAY CHECK, NOT HIM! QUALITY OF WORK - POOR. He oversprayed on the texture and the taping didn't mask enough to cover all of the areas right below the ceiling line. I now have a thick line all along the area where the ceiling and top of the wall meet. I now have to install moulding just to cover up his substandard work. I've attached pictures for all to see. In conclusion, if you wanna experience what we did, then hire him at your own risk. read more

Terry Whitworth is a scammer. Do not hire him. He was supposed to do a house project with me. He is not responding any of my emails, voice or text messages. It seems to me that he thinks he is going to be able to walk away with my money. He is wrong! He will be facing legal consequences for his unethical behavior. I did trust him because he helped me previously with another project. read more

I DO NOT RECOMMEND TERRY! Here is what happened to me: 2/11: Met with Terry in person and signed a contract to start work on 2/25. Gave him a laptop valued at $650 as a deposit. He said he would give it to his wife on 2/14 as a gift. 2/22: Terry called to say that he no longer wants the laptop, thereby breaching the contract. His wife had been using it during this time period. I called him back 5 minutes later to tell him that I found a better deal through another contractor. Terry said he would call me back the following morning after he thought about it. He never called back. 2/23 - 2/26: I called Terry 10 times and left 6 messages over the next four days. I wrote him multiple e-mails. No response. 2/26: I got an e-mail from his wife, who had notified Terry about my e-mails. He called me and we arranged to meet up so that I could get the deposit back. NO EXPLANATION. NO APOLOGY. He took my deposit and I was unable to contact him for four days, beginning two days before the work was supposed to start. I have never felt more furious about working with anyone over Craigslist. I had to rush to find a new contractor which caused a lot of stress and anxiety. There are plenty of other contractors that will be better to work with. You don't want someone who goes off with your deposit and doesn't return your many phone calls and e-mails. For a period of time, I thought that I would never hear from him again. DO NOT USE HIM! read more

NOT VERY RESPONSIVE! I went with Terry because of the Yelp reviews here, but I was somewhat disappointed. Terry was very reasonably priced, did an OK job on my wall which had holes in it, but he is very bad at returning your calls!! Terry took a while to get back to me after doing the initial job estimate. He did the job quickly, and did an "OK" job on my wall, but he did not return to fix obvious UNEVEN edges on the wall. He told me to call him if I ever had questions or concerns, but my messages on his phone have gone completely unanswered! I am unsure if I will ever go to him ever again, or recommend anybody who reads this review to either! read more

Terry is a first rate, reliable and professional contractor always quick to return phone calls. He and his crew showed up on time and finished the job when promised. We had him remove the acoustic textured (aka popcorn) ceilings and re-texture the entire house. He laid down two sheets of plastic and then hauled the mess off leaving down the first sheet of plastic so we could go through and prime/paint all the ceilings ourselves w/out having to lay down any tarps or plastic. The ceilings look great now! We also had Terry put in a nice arch between the dining and living room, and to drywall over the existing brick fireplace to give it a more contemporary look. Both jobs look great. He has some photos of his work on flickr (google "flickr drywall excellence"), ours should be up there soon once we get all the paint and finishing done. I'd recommend Terry to anyone who needs drywall work. read more

I'm writing this review on behalf of my 87 y.o. father who needed some wallpaper removed from an entryway, wall texture, and paint. I always hesitate to recommend people to him as he can be a bit particular :). In this case, I was very confident recommending Terry to do the work based on my own experience a few years back. He did such an amazing job in my home, super clean and professional, so I broke my rule and gave him Terry's info. My father ended up hiring him, and after the job was completed he actually commented that Terry went above and beyond..."his work, professionalism, and cleanliness. Plus he's such a nice guy!" I saw the work a few days after completion, and as usual it's stunning. Thanks Terry! read more

Since I'm completely new to the "remodeling your home" world, I contacted 10 different contractors to remove the popcorn ceiling throughout our home. Terry came out to be more reasonably priced, actually the lowest, which that should have been a warning sign!. Nonetheless, I had him come out to our home and give us his feedback. I even asked for a few other small jobs to be done at the house. He came back with estimates in a timely manner and picked up his calls as well. Something made me come back to yelp to read ALL of the comments left for him. One of the comments mentioned CSLB which states how much deposit contractors can legally request. I noticed that on Terry's estimates, he mentioned a 33% of total deposit needed to be paid upfront. To save my ass, I presented Terry a contract TWO DAYS BEFORE THE START OF HIS WORK. I pulled the contract from the following site: https://www.docracy.com/0rgkbvacolg/independent-contractor-agreement-template# and added the actual amount of how much we owed him and the deposit amount of 10%. I even told him if he had any changes, that we can discuss them. I get a reply from him, couple of hours later, saying "I think that another independent contractor may be a better fit for you and your specific needs." REALLY??? I was not expecting that. But THANK GOD! I could have lost my deposit and probably an unfinished job. Bottom line ---- DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME!!! read more

Terry and the team did a great job helping me remove my popcorn ceiling and retexturing it. Very professional. - Fair price - Followed up with a formal email clearly stating all the items that would be covered in the estimate - Understood customer needs - Flexible to work around my schedule - Did a great job in preparation and clean up, even made sure the public areas they passed through were clean *just make sure to put away all the small screws before the job begins, as they might accidently get mixed in with the trash ;) read more

Terry and his team are puntual, friendly and professionals. Awesome job at removing pop corn and re-texturing. Will do business again. He raises the bar for remodelling contractors to a very high level. Excellent customer service, great rate and superb results! read more

this is a horrible company !!! terry was so deceiving !!! it was a bait and switch with the contract. the quote changed in the middle of the project stating that the project was much harder than he thought it would be when he actually inspected the project prior to writing the initial estimate. we would not have hired terry had we known that he will change the estimate/ quote right in the middle of the project when it was too late for us to back out !!! we were going to get a lawyer to file a lawsuit for the unfinished work he left behind and he left the project hanging. we were also going to call the police to pick up our house keys from his house since he never returned any of our calls or texts for a week !!!!!!!! he should go to jail for what he did to us !!! read more

Terry Said to me he isn't flacky when he didn't call me back and missed his appointment Then he showed up on the second appointment i made and gave me a quote to be followed up by an email which never arrived then i called him 5 different times and emailed him the same and to this day haven't heard a thing good thing hes not flacky....... right -5 stars read more

We hired Terry to rehab a closet. He appeared to be a one-man shop and was prepared to start immediately and was quite flexible working around our schedule. He came prepared with the tools and expertise, but the project proceeded much more slowly than he estimated (a weekend turned into two weeks of intermittent work). When I suggested that we'd be OK working around another commitment of his, he firmly stated that he "wouldn't do that" to us and that he'd have someone else on site the next day to get the project finished beforehand. That didn't happen and he kept at it for a few more days alone. We gave him dinner one night. And then he disappeared. He left the project 80% completed, and left his tools and equipment behind. He did not respond to repeated phone calls and text messages for several *weeks*. He eventually called and asked if he could pick his tools up. When he arrived he asked if we were "cool" and I told him sure. We paid $400 up front for a deposit and materials, and were stuck having to DIY the remaining 20% ourselves. I never got the impression Terry was out to scam me, like some of the other reviews suggested. He just comes off as unreliable and then afraid to talk to people when he's expecting them to be upset at him. If you are a flexible, compassionate person with no time table, Terry does reasonably good work. If you're a normal person and want to hire someone to get a job done, avoid. read more

Thanks Terry from Drywall Excellence!!! Needed serious patch work to drywall on ceiling after the installation of recess lighting and ceiling speakers, as well as, work on some areas on our wall where our lil yorkie dug into. Well what can i say everything looks GREAT!!!! Terry was very professional and even worked on a Sunday to get things started. Terry is very meticulous about everything including clean up and making sure he covers furniture, floors and even our ceiling speakers. Highly recommend Terry for any kind of drywall work. read more

Found Drywall Excellence on Craiglists and contacted Terry with the info he requested on-line. He wrote back to me if it were possible to come by, which I agreed, stating this evening or Saturday or Sunday are also possible as I will make myself available. Never heard back from him. Called his cell and left messages during the weekend. On Monday, I called him and on the third time, he picked up. I asked Terry if he had gotten any of my message today or the ones I left on the weekend. He told me it was a last minute impulse that he and his wife took a trip out of town. To his credit, Terry came by that evening and emailed me a quote the following day. I wanted some clarifications, so I called him; didn't get him, so I left a message. A couple of subsequent left messages in the next couple of days and still without a return call. That 's enough for me. If he will not even get back to me before a job, I don't have a good feeling about his followup during and after the job! Maybe he decided to take another impulse trip??? read more

I recently hired Terry to remove a rock wall in my home and wood paneling. He then installed some new drywall and new texture throughout. He was extremely professional throughout the entire job. He left everything clean when he left at night and worked hard when he was hear unlike other contractors who spend more time talking and taking breaks. He provided names of the other individual that worked with him and let me know he would give me advance notice if he had to have anyone else work with him. Also, after the job was completed we noticed a texture issue and called him immediately. He came out the next evening and fixed it without any questions. I am extremely with the results he did. I would definitely hire him again. read more

Terry at Drywall Excellence is a gem, and this review is much overdue. Terry has helped me now with two projects involving walls and texturing, and in both cases he did an outstanding job. I appreciate his workmanship, and will call on him for future projects as they arise... read more

Don't believe the hype... on Craigslist. The quality of the work and so called satisfaction guarantee were not there at all. My calls to get the job completed were not returned. read more

He gave a formal quote (listing everyhting to be done) after visiting my place. Havent seen many people do that. He completed the work in the stipulated time and did a good job. He also threw in some freebies once he finished the agreed upon work. One of the freebies was to hang chandeliers. He did that after I paid him. Usually in my experince, I never heard from folks after the final payment is made. Also, he made a mistake and actually installed then at the wrong location. When I told him about it, he came back to fix it on his dime. So yes, I would hire him again and recommend. He does have a tendency to get a little impatient and curt if you repeat ypurself. read more

This is the second time I used Drywall excellence. Terry worked through Christmas eve. I really appreciated it! Since I also have the recess lights installed by him, it was hard to check the ceiling work with bright light. Terry had given written satisfaction guarantee, so I was confident he will honor his work. A week or two later, I started contacting him regarding dry wall was too thin and not even. The tape is visible! He agreed to return. I had sent many emails, phone calls. And he never schedule me in! I was waiting for him before I can hire a painter for the wall. It has been two months! I had to hire a painter to do the wall, or I will never be able to sleep in my room. Because of his response once and never schedule me in. My remodel job was so delayed. I have email records, messages, phone history. Now maybe your 3 year warranty is a lie! read more

Terry did a very professional and thorough job for us in texturing a master bedroom, closet and bathroom. He came when he said he would, was fast and efficient, did an excellent quality job, in-out in one day, neat and clean, and was very fair in his price. Terry and his crew did an excellence job. I required patching of several old ceiling leaks, (not easy) as well as the removal of bathroom mirrors and old alarm camera system boxes in every room of the house which required patching and retexturing. Terry also sheet rocked and re- textured my entire kitchen ceiling for new LED lighting. I'm very picky and I can report that the new texture was a spot on match. Terry Whitworth is the contractor for Drywall Excellence. He wrote a contract to remove the popcorn on the ceiling and texture thereafter.
