Douglas Construction - Handyman Near Me

Small projects can be a nightmare for homeowners, and people often have trouble getting calls back. Yelp project once again helped me find a professional (Douglas Construction), who could take on my problem- a bifold closet door that had worn out and fallen due to a split where it attaches at the top. Using Yelp project, I got a few replies back quickly all of which were great well-rated companies with various pricing situations. Douglas was the first to respond, and he gave me a general price based on the photos I sent, which was very reasonable. Douglas sent me his availability at the same time- (which in this case was the next day!) Douglas efficiently worked on repairing and putting the heavy door back in place. The price was so fair, so epically worth it- and my problem is solved quickly and professionally which is my favorite! read more

Douglas arrived on time and did an excellent job caulking our shower, bathtub, and two sinks. His fee was lower than most other quotes but the quality was high. I wouldn't hesitate to hire him for other projects around the house. read more

Douglas was quick to respond and gave a really competitive price. He installed acoustic wall slats and put up curtain rods for us. It turned out looking great! read more

Douglass was nice but his work is disappointing ans poor quality. I wish he could tell that he wouldn't be able to get my doorframe fix as to the original condition. He replaced a totally different trim without consulting with me before until the job was done and there's nothing else we could do. Besides, he didn't even sand the door before painting it therefore the result is not smooth and you can see that the paint is patchy and the surface is uneven. read more

If it is possible on Yelp to rate fractionally, I would rate the work that Douglas Construction did 4.5 stars. Douglas Gonzalez and his brother Byron completed a long list of handyman projects that enabled the sale of my house at San Francisco. Douglas and Byron are a hardworking team, skilled across a wide range of home repair disciplines, and willing to take on extra work that is not part of the original scope. The best way to reach Douglas was via text. He calls back quickly. The objectives of my projects were good appearance and fully functional, but not a remodeling effort. Douglas & Bryon did an excellent job installing new kitchen appliances: gas stove and range hood. This required the installation of new gas line, new electrical and vent duct for the hood. They also did an excellent job replacing a very rusted bathtub drain which required the replacement of the tub drain assembly and replacing a section of the cast iron sewer stack. They did a great job of installing new bathroom sink and vanity. They installed new water valves, drain, and shower valve. Byron is a great plumber. They also repaired sheetrock and painted to match. Douglas also completed some minor kitchen cabinet carpentry repair. To give the whole bathroom a fresh clean look, Douglas & Bryon suggested to paint the bath tub, the wall tiles and the floor tiles with white epoxy paint. The outcome was OK, but not great. They both tried. I believe bath tub and tile painting is not their core competency. The difficulty is epoxy paint cannot be touched up. This is the only project they completed that did not deserve five stars. Douglas shopped and purchased all the material which saved me a lot of effort. The price of the job was fair and competitive with the other quotes I received. Please consider Douglas Construction for your home projects. read more

Douglas was responsive and professional. Our job was small (fixing a pocket door and repairing a buckle in our wood flooring) but he was willing to do the work. Very happy with the result. Douglas did a great job. He was timely, professional and the work looks great. I had a shower that needed some rust removed and chalking repaired. If I need more handyman work done, I'll bring him back. He charged a reasonable price as well. read more

Douglas and his brother Ruben did a very fine job of removing 5 old deteriorating vinyl window blind sets and installing 5 new faux wood ones I had bought. The whole thing took just a little over an hour; they were careful and cooperative. His price was extremely reasonable. I was going to give him 4 stars because we had scheduling problems, but not only was the work done well and fast and cheaply, but they also took away the old blinds AND all the packaging that the new ones came in. Saved me a lot of extra bother. So five stars it is. read more

Douglas was great and wouldn't stop until the door was fixed exactly to my liking. He was professional and reasonably priced.

I was looking for a door repair job through Yelp, and contacted approximately a dozen handymen. Douglas Construction was courteous and had absolutely the most reasonable prices. He even offered to do an additional minor job for free! I ended up going with a different company because they responded first, but Douglas Construction was so great I had to leave a 5-star review. I'll be sure to use Douglas Construction next time! read more

9/19/2024 Deck repair. Douglas and his Brother did a fantastic job on the repair work on my second story Redwood Deck! (16 ft wide 10 ft out from the house). It was in pretty bad shape. It is almost 40 years old and approximately half of the deck boards had to be totally replaced and 100% of the Hand Rails were replaced! I asked him to stain the deck when it was repaired! Douglas applied 2 coats to the Deck, both top and bottom (underside)! The Deck now looks magnificent & it is stronger and safer than it was when it was brand new! he also repaired 3 sections of Dry-rot on the side of my house where deck is touching the house! These Two young me came on time each day! They immediately started to work! No fooling around they stopped at noon for a 30 min. lunch and went back at it till about 4:30, they cleaned the work area and departed! I would definitly use them again and would give them a 5 star rating! read more

After agreeing on a piece of work (mount the mirror to the wall), Douglas didn't show up at the agreed time. When I called he said he had an emergency taking his wife to a court hearing. I understood and we rescheduled, and then he didn't show up again. When I called again he said he could come the next Monday. Again he didn't show up. When I asked the reason, this time it's because he had to take his daughter to a doctor. I understand everyone has priority in life but I waited for him for 3 weeks and had to call multiple times. I said this is very unprofessional and I will leave a bad review, he said "don't worry I prefer the bad review to my baby's health now", making me look bad when it's his fault not providing a heads-up and missed the appointment multiple times. I have wasted so much time and now it's really hard to find a replacement because it's only a small piece of work. He had come earlier for a bigger piece of work and promised to come back for this additional one when my mirror arrives. Now because it's a small task, he didn't bother to show up and left me in a very inconvenient position, and he still think he has no fault because I'm not being considerate that he has to take care of his family. read more

Douglas responded quickly to our request and was able to come over the same day.
