When walking in Downtown Renton on 3rd Street, there are many signature spots unique only to Renton that just wouldn't work anywhere else. Enter Drum Roll Wine! Opened in October of 2023, the space is the official tasting room of the Drum Roll Winery owned by Sundee and Matt Frazier who have been make local Washington since 2016. The space is cozy and open to the public for tastings of all their award winning offerings. Backstage Blanc? A Columbia Valley Chardonnay Monet? How about their 2024 Gold Award winning Seurat Syrah? It's there. I had their popular and bubbly Starry White, which earned the 2025 Gold Award in the Boston Wine Competition. The best part, all wines are reasonably priced and definitely approachable for all palates. Drum Roll does have a wine club that you can easily sign-up for that qualifies you for special events! You wouldn't think that you'd stumble upon a quaint, delicious wine tasting room in downtown Renton, would you... ? Well think differently my friend! I have been a Drum Roll fan for YEARS now and was so excited to watch their tasting room come to life. My first encounter with them was at the Issaquah Wine Walk like 6-8 years ago (it's hard to pinpoint) and Matt, one of the co-owners, was so personable and nice. The added bonus was that the wine was delicious. So when I discovered they were opening a tasting room in Renton, I was so ecstatic. They've been open for a year or two now and they are flourishing! The space is creatively curated and speaks to the owners and their family so well. It's kid-friendly and pup-friendly which makes this really a very welcoming spot in the downtown area. They don't carry food, but they do have snacks. But more importantly, they have delicious wine (duh). Over the years, my favorite has stayed constant - their white blend! They've never made a wine I haven't liked, but their white blend is a guaranteed classic that I can crack open for myself, or at family dinners, and know it's going to be a hit. Sundee and Matt (the power duo behind the Drum Roll brand) are truly wonderful, welcoming humans and this is such a bright piece of Renton. Went here to celebrate my 40th and it was FABULOUS. The owners were out of town so a member stepped up to be there and she did a great job of accommodating our group. The wine options were broad enough to accommodate our group's diverse palates. I enjoyed the pink and sparkling options most. The venue was great allowing us to bring in food as food options are limited. Many of the ladies can't wait to go back!!! read more

My friends and I love this wine bar! We always order a bubbly white and still white, but I am certain that no matter what wine is ordered, the selection will be delicious. Management is great and very attentive. They don't even mind when we bring a smattering of food to graze on and laugh a little too loud. Matt offers a great selection of wines including a Live Wine (all organic orange wine) in a comfortable setting. I've tried the sparkling white, sparkling rose, house red, and the orange wine. All of them were very good. Drum Roll offers a number of cool events and tastings during the week and the service is excellent. Went two weeks ago! Great place in downtown Renton!! They had great wines and the place was really nice and clean. Really great place to relax and enjoy the day. The guy there was really helpful and nice. They don't have any food but they do have little snack bowls in case you need something to munch on and they have a few places around them too. Spent a lovely Sunday afternoon/early evening here! The proprietors, Matt and Sundee, were both extremely personable, welcoming and helpful. I asked for a tasting flight recommendation and they did not disappoint! Matt started me with their delicious, citrusy, Living Wine, followed by their Drum Roll White, then their Drum Roll Red, finished by their Syrah! All very delicious! History

Established in 2017.

With backgrounds in music and writing, a winery may seem an unusual choice for Matt and Sundee Frazier. Wine and the arts have quite a bit in common, however, as painstaking work (some of it technical and tedious) yields an enchanting, mysterious, even transporting result. Music, stories, wine, and other forms of art help us all access more beauty and truth every day. They also inspire us to live better by focusing our attention on the best of what we all share and by breaking down the boundaries between us. Early on, this wine experiment was Matt’s passion project, but it became a family business pretty quickly. Sundee elevated her wine knowledge and started pouring at wine walks and other events as we got busier. Our daughters even get involved with proper work now and then.

One observation I did have relates to the elevator experience. It has been two years since my last visit, and unfortunately, the elevator's video system is still not functioning. I remember when the observatory first opened, and the video played during the ride up--it added an engaging and memorable element to the experience. Without it, the ride feels noticeably less enjoyable. Interestingly, others seemed to feel the same way. I mentioned how long the video system has been out of service while riding up, and a couple riding up with us--visiting from Australia--commented that it would have been nice to have something to watch during the ascent. As an alternative, it might be a wonderful opportunity for the elevator operator to share a few interesting facts during the ride up. A brief, engaging introduction--highlighting that this is the tallest building in Seattle, along with a bit of history about its construction and facts about its tenants--could really enhance the experience and help pass the time in a meaningful way. Additionally, with all three video screens currently not working and visibly cracked, addressing this issue would make a noticeable difference. Either repairing or replacing the screens--or even temporarily covering them--would create a much more polished and welcoming feel for visitors and help elevate the overall experience. There's also a café w/ bar upstairs, making it easy to relax and spend some time enjoying the scenery. One of the biggest advantages is that you get incredible panoramic views of Seattle including the Space Needle itself, which makes for some great photo opportunities. We got lucky and it was a beautiful afternoon and were able to watch the sunset from there. Between the views, the atmosphere, and the overall value, this ended up being one of my favorite stops in Seattle.

This was about 30 minutes after opening and the small parking lot was completely full. Cars were parked haphazardly all along the street, making it difficult for two way traffic (we had to drive on the grass). Luckily as soon as we pulled into the parking lot a car reversed out. Score! Picking is hectic but organized. They give boxes out at the main stall and have a flag system to mark how far down the row has been picked. The problem is that most people didn't actually use the flags. On the other hand, it's not like the rows were picked very well in the first place. We started at a random one in the middle and there were still plenty of huge and juicy ripe strawberries even on the first couple of plants. We ended up filling our entire box, weighing in at 8.25 pounds by around half way down the row. At $4.75 that was almost $40 in strawberries! The employees said that they would rotate to a second field of strawberries later in the day for more fresh picking. The strawberry variety of the day was Puget Crimson. Since this was the first day, the cream of the crop were still available, meaning huge, juicy, flavorful, ripe strawberries all over. Puget Crimson typically seen at farm stands and markets are medium and small size; these were massive, with the larger ones averaging over 35 grams a piece. Nicely sweet too - I measured a mash of five strawberries at 10.9 brix and a second at 12.1 brix! This particular variety has a decent amount of acidity, but are all full flavored, unlike the first pick of Sweet Sunrise I had a couple of weeks ago, which were huge but somewhat watery. They are deep red/crimson in color, especially for the extremely ripe ones, and mostly conical, although we found a small number of mutants, one looking like 4 or 5 strawberries fused together! Check out is easy. Pro-Tip: there are two checkout lines, one on each side of the stall. The line furthest away from the pathway to the strawberry fields seems to always be shorter. In my case, only 3 groups in line instead of 20+ groups. Warning: these strawberries are planted on top of very sandy dirt, which sticks to the strawberries. Even after soaked and scrubbing, dirt still sticks onto the skin! I will definitely be revisiting Duris Strawberry Farm next year for their first day of strawberry picking!

GPS got us there the back way but once we found it, I have to say it's very easy to find.

We spent a good 2-hrs here which included getting lost and finding other street entries into the botanical park from a school and from other busy street corner at the bottom of the park. Nice and shaded, quiet little creeks, plenty of seating for those that were inspired to journal, plenty of elderly people using this time to exercise and stretch. We enjoyed the different areas like the swinging bridge, the Japanese garden and even the little cafe they have there. Fairly priced items and plenty of tables to enjoy a refreshment and snack. By the time we were done, the gift shop was already closed. So I took the opportunity to drop a donation into the box instead.

Drum Roll Wine is so much more than a local business to us it's become a part of our family. Matt and Sundee have created a space that feels warm, welcoming, and genuinely community-driven. From wine walks and game nights to meeting new friends and feeling like we truly belong, this place has been a constant source of joy in our lives. Plus they're dog and kid friendly! Their wine is incredible, yes, but it's the people that make it unforgettable. We've celebrated some of our biggest milestones here, including our gender reveal and baby shower, and we couldn't imagine those moments happening anywhere else. Matt and Sundee pour their hearts into what they do, and it shows in every conversation, every event, every glass.
