Sad to say, the wrong facility was chosen for the services. the details were not "taken care of". they acted like we all knew what we were doing, where we should be at what time, who should sit where... it was awful. Then we realized that the memorial cards hadn't been put out for the wake. next morning they still weren't out, when I asked about them I was told "not sure where he put them" !! the cards didn't get put out until people were leaving the funeral home to go to the cemetary. No limo for the family. One of the staff (one of the owners maybe) acted like she had better things to be doing. She should have been doing them instead because she certainly did nothing to help ease this painful time. there were counter tops that hadn't been cleaned. I could go on but I've said my peace.

My step dad passed away on a cold winters night in 1995 after a long illness. After a hospice nurse confirmed his death, Douglas Funeral home was the next place we called. Within an hour, in the middle of a cold, snow blown winters night, they came and took dad away. From that point on they were very understanding and patient. They handled everything and were great. The cemetery was supposedly relocated here from its original location in 1680, so the age of the graves varies wildly. Mr. O'Brien never returned my phonecalls - even though his answering service said he would…read more Repeatedly! He also completely dropped the ball on my father's Veteran plaque from the VA. He never sent the appropriate paperwork to the VA to make it happen. He told me he had sent everything in - and that claim turned out to be a complete lie. When I contacted the VA personally - they never heard from Mr. O'Brien or anyone else regarding my father's death. So I took care of ordering the plaque myself, sending the paperwork in, doing all the legwork, etc., - then coordinating with the cemetery officials to have the plaque installed. Basically - I did Mr. O'Brien's job. Families who experience a loss shouldn't be lied to - nor should they be expected to do the work they are paying the funeral director to do. My advice - chose someone else for your family's final needs. Mr. O'Brien obviously has other things on his mind besides doing the job he claims he does. Pathetic customer service.
