This is where you go if you want your loved one's soul to be sold to the devil.
From my experience, Mike Ahearn doesn't do anything unless it's for money and to benefit himself. His protégée, Rick, seemed to genuinely care about the passing of my brother. He wanted to do everything he could to help. Apart from the financial and paperwork aspect, we dealt mainly with Rick in regards to the legwork. He said he would follow up on things or find out certain information for us and he would come back with an answer. Then when it got time for Mike to get involved, he would say the exact opposite of what Rick had said we were allowed to do. It seems that Rick and Mike were not on the same page. We later found out that Rick left Ahearn Funeral Home.
Then, whenever we tried to call Mike to get follow-ups on certain things we would end up going straight to a call center. We could never get a hold of him directly. The call center took my phone number and he ended up calling someone else's # looking for me!!!! Either there was no communication or someone can't take a proper message in business. Come to find out, the call center isn't even located in the funeral home itself. I couldn't tell you where it was located. He had given us his personal cell # to call for emergencies. Since I wasn't able to reach him on his work #, I had tried his cell phone and he had actually responded one time to NOT contact him on his cell phone because he was on vacation and that I needed to call his work # instead. But the point was that I couldn't get him on his work #.
When we were going over the paperwork with Mike, we were very clear on the details of my brother's death and his personal information. MONTHS later, we finally received the death certificate after we had made an unreasonable amount of follow ups. It turned out that Mike had been holding onto the death certificate for quite a while before releasing it to us. We also saw that my brother's death date on the death certificate was completely wrong!!! I just couldn't believe it. We followed up with the Town/County that issued the death certificate and they said that it wasn't uncommon to get the wrong date and that this has happened before with Mike. They said that all we needed to do was to call Mike to come into the Town/County office, have him pay a fee and that they would then process the correction before issuing us a new death certificate. They said it wouldn't be difficult and that Mike was familiar with this process. We told them that we had difficulties throughout the entire funeral process getting in contact with Mike and would prefer if the Town/County office could contact him on our behalf instead. They obliged and ended up having the same difficulties that we had. In fact, the lady at the Town/County office was appalled that Mike was blatantly ignoring her phone calls as he dint' respond to her until after multiple follow ups. Weeks passed by before Mike actually made it into the office to make the correction.
It was already a very sad and traumatic time for my entire family, but to add to the stress of an uncaring funeral director made for a sour experience. I would NEVER recommend Ahearn Funeral Home to anyone, not even to my worst enemy. There are better places out there where your loved ones will be taken care of. Mike Ahearn was all business and no compassion. By the time we realized what a joke this guy was, we were already too far into the process to switch to a different funeral home. The only reason we had gone to Ahearn was because a friend of a friend had highly recommended Ahearn but it was the worst decision that we could have ever made.
The bald white man on Ahearn Funeral Home's website is the one and only Mike Ahearn. Steer clear of him. read more
