As with all our taster menus, we opted for the accompanying wines too. Each course of food was delicious and very well presented. The wines certainly played their part in enhancing each dish. We haven't been here for a normal evening meal, but I would imagine that would get 5 stars too! I digress.. La Belle Epoque was easily the best wedding evening venue that I've had the pleasure of drinking too much at. The gorgeous design was filled with beautiful flowers and the architecture offered dining rooms, lounge chairs and sofas as well as a well-stocked bar and a diminutive yet purposeful dancefloor. All this in a town-centre, original old wooden building. Every course of the wedding meal was exceptional. A starter of sharp goats cheese tart was surpassed by an amazing tasting selection of lamb before a stellar creme brullee topped off a set of courses that would've been amazing just for one couple, let alone served simultaneously to 100+ people. The great food didn't end there, as luxury mini mince pies were dished out with fresh tea and coffee before much dancing and casino fun led to midnight snacks of superb lamb burger sliders. Those sliders!! To top the whole night off the local wedding DJ turned out to be 'Our Billy' from Bread (TV). He never told us that but we worked it out.... on one of the three times he played Barbara Streisand.

Being located close to the Manchester United training ground, some of the players are regulars and acting from a tipoff from Gemma, I asked and the maitre d' did show me the table where Alex Ferguson likes to sit when he visits Gemma had enjoyed a molecular style tasting menu on her visit but the Sunday lunch menu is much more conventional and described as their take on a Sunday roast - it's good value at £23.95 for 3 courses We were offered a lovely selection of bread and I had a cheesey one that I had to resist over-eating in order to save space for my main meal I started with a deconstructed Caesar salad. All the components tasted nice on their own and in combination but I could have done with a little more dressing to bind the dish together. My sister's rilette of salmon was paired with watermelon & apple salad and she enjoyed it For mains, my sister went with the beef and Yorkshire pudding while I had the lamb. Can't fault the cooking of the meat - we were told it would come pink (perfect for us) For dessert, I couldn't turn down the vanilla pannacota which came with a divine white chocolate sorbet while my sister turned to comfort food - rice pudding with rhubarb though it did lack the advertised lemon ice cream Overall, an enjoyable meal and dependable Sunday lunch, which earn The Alderley a solid 4 stars for now. (NB: This is the second part to the review that I started yesterday...)…read more The sommelier was certainly not stingy with the wine for the wine pairings, a consequence of which was me having the dutch courage to ask for the chef to come out for a chat, get my menu signed (see what you've done Yee Gan!!), and arrange for a kitchen tour for me and my 12 year old step brother. Chef Holland was very happy to chat to us and answer all of George's question - a really nice guy as well as an excellent chef. The following day he also signed some recipe books for us featuring some of his dishes which I will be trying to recreate at home! This restaurant was opened by Alex Ferguson in 1994 and he is also a regular customer. My whole family being massive Manchester United fans, this was also very exciting for us and the maitre d was happy to show us his regular table and let us pose for photo's!! We were the last people to leave the restaurant, hugely sated and a little tipsy, but feeling that I had just experienced the greatest meal of my life so far. I would be very surprised if Chef Holland is not awarded a Michelin star very soon.

Though it looks like an odd location to be based, adjacent to one of the busiest main roads in south Manchester with little parking, there are a fair few workplaces and office workers in the vicinity. Now that I know they're good (the sandwich was really fresh and tasty), I'll be one of their returning customers for sure - it's a great excuse to work from home more often ;)

The staff were all very welcoming, and we were all really impressed with the friendly, efficient service. The menu was full of English comfort foods...and they executed everything beautifully. Just look at my photos to get an idea...I tried the goats cheese and caramelised onion strudel, which came balanced on potatoes and perfect ratatouille. If you ever find yourself in this part of the country, it is definitely worth popping in here for some lunch! *Pro tip: It sounded like they get very booked up in the evening, so ring ahead to ensure you get a table!!

It often gets scrutinised for being a bit pretentious with the crowd it attracts, but I have to say I prefer the crowd of didsbury locals - this place is always filled with a nice crowd and attracts no trouble. You can sit outside under the heated area, inside at the main bar, or in the restaurant/dining bit. Each area is always busy, with a bustling atmosphere and traditional decor. I ordered the Butternut Squash Risotto for my dinner which was the wrong choice - I should have gone for the burgers which a lot of my friends went for, and they looked amazing. The burgers came with a nice looking ciabatta bun, and were fully stacked with meat, salad and cheese. My risotto was very standard., The butternut squash was a little bit hard, and I didn't really feel full or satisfied after it. At least I had buckets of sweet potato fries to pick at from everyone elses order afterwards, which were home cooked and delicious! Quite a pricey place to come for lunch and a drink if you expect it to be a typical 'pub/bar' type place. But it is west didsbury after all. First off we had haddock and chips x4 on the first night and with mushy peas, curry sauce and a couple of bread rolls it was tasty, filling and just a great example of a proper British fish and chip shop. The batter was light on the fish, the chips weren't too greasy and at £21 for all this it really was a good value meal too. We returned a few days later when we wanted some chips to go with our homecooked steaks - another good decision - yum! They also do donner kebabs and other greasy specials but this isn't really my area as I try to stay away from anything this contains 'mystery meat!'
