Boxers are high energy, lovable clowns! We contacted a couple of rescue groups, but I found that working with Boxer Buddies was wonderful. I gave Penny information about us and our experience with dogs and she suggested some dogs that might be right for our family. One of the dogs she suggested was Dempsey, a 3 year old deaf girl. I had never had a deaf dog and neither had my husband, but considering that we have both had a lot of dogs in the past and a lot of luck training, Penny thought it might be a good fit. Penny set up a time for us to meet the owners of other deaf dogs to learn about living with with and training them. After a home inspection we finally got to meet Dempsey and we fell in love. She is so funny and sweet! We have had her 2 years and are so happy with her! Boxer Buddies does not have a shelter, all dogs waiting to be adopted live with families and other dogs. This means that they really know that dog before giving it to someone. We knew the ins and outs of Dempsey's behavior (she doesn't like other female dogs, she likes cats, hates the mop) before we even met her. BB also go to shelters to rescue boxers! I can't recommend BB enough! If you are a boxer lover, it is the best place to adopt!

Immediately, she was so empathetic and cared enough to listen to our grief, asked questions, and was genuinely sorry for our loss. After talking for a bit about the breed and her process, we knew we wanted to wait for two WilletteRagdol ragdolls. I had been doing research and was in contact with other breeders, but going with Bette and WilletteRagol felt like the right choice immediately. While we waited Bette was very communicative about the timeline and kept us informed of any updates. She also listened to my ramblings about my late boy often! I texted her so often since first contact that I should have paid her a counseling fee. She cares for her parents deeply, as they will be caring for her kids for their entire life. The day we got to pick our two babies was one of the happiest of my life! We ended up picking a blue bi-color boy, and a blue mitted girl from different litters so they lived in different rooms. I was worried about them not bonding since they weren't from the same litter, but Bette knows what she is doing. In between picking the kittens and pick up day we received weekly photos or videos, which was greatly appreciated and kept us sane while waiting for pick up day. By the time pickup day arrived, the wait had turned out to be just right for us--we needed time to grieve the loss of Frank, and by then, we felt ready for our babies. We picked them up on Sunday, and the experience was so pleasant! Bette and her husband Rick were so kind and informative, at this point it was like meeting family since I've been contacting so much. The folders they give are also filled with information so left very few questions. You can tell how much they care for each of their kids from first contact, but especially by the way they said goodbye. Such love and care is put into each kitten! We're on day 3 now and they are adjusting beautifully. It did not take them long at all to start warming up to us and they were rubbing up against us within an hour of being home. Bringing home two was the best decision because they are such buddies! It's lovely seeing their relationship between playing and cuddling up together. And they have such different personalities, it's funny to interact with them and watch them interact. I still communicate with Bette with questions and pictures and it is so nice to have the support to know I can text her and she will happily answer. We are so honored to have been chosen and to be able to be these perfect babies' parents. My heart feels so full for the first time since losing our late boy and we are so in love already. The wait is absolutely worth it! Soon after the puppies were born, Just A Touch Rescue swooped in and took the mama and her puppies into their care. A few months later, we were fortunate enough to welcome one of these puppies into our home. The people of JATR know what they're doing when it comes to adopting out their dogs. While the website says the process can take up to four weeks, we brought Josie home 8 days after submitting the application. They have a very thorough screening process that involves a home visit, calls to two personal references and a vet reference. They're pretty serious about the vet reference and won't adopt animals to any first time pet owners. We were able to meet Josie before the adoption and get all of our questions answered by her foster mother. This was extremely helpful because it allowed us to keep her routine as familiar as possible and also allowed us to anticipate certain behaviors. Even after the adoption, we received follow up emails checking in on Josie to make sure everyone was settling in nicely. Just A Touch is truly a great organization run by hard working and caring individuals. When we decide it's time for Josie to get a brother or sister, Just A Touch will definitely be our first stop.

When we decided to adopt again, we were excited to find a little Boston Terrier mix @ JATR; she had previously been hit by a car and lost her right front leg, we felt she would be a perfect fit to our family. We sent our application in on a Saturday. We began looking into what it would take to adopt a 3 legged dog~ we would have to be careful about her jumping off of furniture and we considered purchasing a doggie wheelchair to allow her to have a normal gait if our vet felt she should have one. I volunteer for an all cat rescue and I understand what the adoption process is like. By Wednesday I started to realize that nobody was going to get back to us. I emailed JATR and also contacted them via facebook~ no response. I noticed they removed the little dog from Petfnder. The lack of a response is what upset me the most. I can understand if the dog had already been adopted; just let us know. I understand that rescue organizations are overworked and sometimes things fall through the cracks, but I contacted them 3 times. We hope to someday find another dog, but I won't apply for another dog from JATR. UPDATE: We adopted a wonderful little dog from Friends of Homeless Animals~ not only did we receive a reply to our inquiry immediately, we were approved for adoption the next day!! We brought her home on 30 May 2012~ a great experience! Much better than Just a Touch Rescue.
