    Custom R5-D4 and R2-D2

I had an absolute blast here! I had not been to Disney in over 15 years and as a longtime Star Wars fan I had to go to Galaxy's Edge. Specifically to build a droid! There are 4 base models (BB, R-series, C-Series and A-LT). Since Ive been a fan since 1977, I chose R5-D4 from the first movie. You go to a conveyor belt to choose your parts. I spied all the correct ones and put them in my basket. Then made my way to the assembly area. I got it together in about 5 minutes. It's pretty much plugging in parts and screwing the legs on with a motorized screwdriver. Then they activated him and paired him with the remote. Not bad for $100! I opted for the backpack and personally chip. The whole price was about $189 The droid interacts with beacons staged throughout Galaxy's Edge and beeps in response Later in the day, I bought a prebuilt R2-D2 to go work him This is a fun experience for kids of all ages and well worth the cost if you're a true fan!

Droids are a big part of the Star Wars universe. Here at the Droid Depot workshop at Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, you can build your own Astromech Unit. The cool thing is that you can assemble it in your own style. The Droid Depot has a conveyor belt full of parts that you can choose from to build your own BB-series or R-series unit. There is a display that helps you assemble your droid in the proper sequence. There are also employees on hand to assist you if needed. Once your droid is assembled, it will paired with a remote control and then powered up. It is fun to watch the kid's faces light up as their droid comes to life. It is just over a hundred bucks to build one of these driods. I personally haven't built a droid, but I watched my nephew build one. He had a fun time choosing different parts to make his own version of R2-D2. Reservations are suggested if you don't want to wait.

DROID DOES! Okay that may be an old school slogan for Verizon Wireless, but it's still applicable here I think lol Because this Droid Depot does what it is meant to! You can build your very own (cute, little, baby) droid robot! It moves, lights up and makes noise and everything. How freaking cool is that!!!! It's super customizable in that you can pick what colors you want and some shapes of the types of hardware (I think the pieces are called that lol), and build away! You can't beat that for $100! Pretty good price if you ask me. The inside of the droid depot is fun to see, because there are parts going around on conveyor belts and fully built droids too for inspiration!

Had a pretty good time making a droid. My mom was able to make a droid with me as well. We both had a pretty good time. They have a pretty nice selection to choose from. Will be coming back on the next trip to make a droid. The Cast Members were pretty helpful. It's a pretty nice experience to do at Galaxy's Edge.

My family had come at 7:30pm on Monday and did not realize there were suggested reservations. I checked the reservations and there was one available 30 minutes later. There were 2 guests who came while we were in the "stand-by" line. We waited apx 15 minutes. I opted for the basic $99.99 droid. My son was excited to pick his droid parts; the CM was helpful spot checking his parts were complimentary to each other. Depending on the leg length you may need the extender, etc. The next station is where you will assemble and use a low power electric screwdriver to assemble the legs. Great for kids! The CM brings the droid to life and will pack it into what I dubbed the Build-A-Bear box. Overall great one of a kind experience. No cast discounts BUT if you have a pass, there are discounts available!

Everything is themed and curated to fit the Star Wars universe specific to the droids seen throughout the movies and various show series. The selection spans so many of the sagas told, and I was truly impressed they had something for everyone. Love that you can even sign up to build your own droid - how cool! Definitely a service I plan to do one day, and I've heard they are worth the somewhat hefty price tag. Don't forget they are eligible for magic key discount to save a little!

The Droid Depot was another fun experience at Star Wars Galaxy Edge. The kids got to pick out a droid to build and it was a nice experience. It is kind of pricey. The experience here is much different than the lightsaber build. You walk up right into the shop. At the time we visited, reservations were needed. The cast members are there for build assistance. There isn't a storyline or presentation like with the lightsabers, which was kind of a letdown. Overall, it was enjoyable.

Want to build a Droid the size of an extra large Brawny Paper Towel roll? And spend hundreds of dollars doing it? Well then, come here! I know things at Disney are expensive, but given this is a remote-controlled Droid and a small one at that for hundreds of dollars, it's not worth the money. As you can imagine, everything is extra, and everything is like cheap plastic. It rolls and moves its head, but that's about it. I won't deny picking up pieces and building it from the conveyor belt to the fake gadgets where you and assemble your Droid and test drive it are unique, but it's the equivalent of some remote controlled thing you can buy at a toy store. Droid is basically the size of an extra large Brawny Paper Towel roll. You're paying for the customization and the experience. You can build your own BB8 or R2D2, but honestly, after we did and brought it home, we realized we're paying for the experience and not the quality. The store is okay, small, and it's 3 stars for a good but not exceptional experience or store.

A fun place for Star Wars fans and kids. Galaxy's Edge already blows my mind with the special attention to detail, but shops like this are unique and family fun. We caved in and bought our five-year-old the experience to make her own BB8 droid. The staff is accommodating. We didn't make any reservations and it wasn't crowded. We picked our droid parts from the conveyer belt. Then we assembled our droid at one of the stations. There was a technician available if we needed any help, but for the most part, we could follow the picture instructions. Afterward, you have the option to add a personality chip. We got a blue and yellow one (my daughter loved their droid noises). We paid $130 and $15 for each personality chip. If you come with the mindset that you're paying for the Disney experience, prices like this are to be expected. I, personally, don't think it's worth $130. We immediately tested out our droid outside of the store. My daughter loves it!

One of my favorite experiences at Disneyland was building my own droid. Located in Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, you'll see droids in front. Using my Genie+ through the Disneyland app, I booked this experience without a problem. You'll be asked for your credit card information but you won't get charged until your appointment. It starts at $99. For a few, you can get a carrying case (backpack) and personality for your droid (if only it was that easy to buy personality, I would've bought some for a few people). You can bring 1 guest with you. Sounds, moving parts...I was super distracted when I got here. After you confirm and pay for your reservation, you'll be given a basket for you to put in parts of your droid. There's a conveyor belt with all the different parts in different colors. You grab 4 pieces whether you're building an R-unit or a BB-unit. No, you can't mix and match R-unit parts with BB-unit parts - just think for a moment how that would even be possible. My friend and I both built a BB-unit each. And our guests were our helpful assistants. And if you need more assistance, the staff here would gladly offer you assistance. It takes about 30 minutes from start to finish to build and box your droid - depending on how easily distracted you are. Your droid comes with a remote that looks like a game pad. You control how it moves and make sounds. If you take it everywhere with you in Galaxy's Edge, it can interact with other droids and certain parts of the area. I've seen people letting their droids roam around - these are brave people. I don't want mine to get dirty so, no. It was $99 well-spent. I can now have it interact with dogs and have a fun time.

I'm not sure if they just thought I knew what I was doing, or didn't care much, but this was the one place that made me feel weird to be an adult, which is really too bad because the Lightsaber experience was so cool about it. The extras, like the personality chip are really fun, making the droids react differently to locations around Galaxy's Edge. My "rascal" droid enjoyed being around the Millennium Falcon and eateries, and nervous around the First Order. It was fun being able to take the droid around, even just hearing him beep from his backpack. Overall, very cute. It was also late, so I'm hoping that's all it was with the staff. Still very much enjoyed building.

If you're a Star Wars nerd you're gonna love this place! I totally geeked out on the build a droid experience. Reservations are required so plan ahead! I build a BB8 series droid. To start the build a cast member provided a sheet with droid style options, and you pick out your design and colors. Once built the droids react to different areas in the park depending on the area you are in. I will definitely be back to build an R series unit.

Attendant powering up the droid! Some exciting!

If you love Star Wars and you have kids, Droid Depot is a MUST at Disneyland!!! If you don't have kids, it's still a MUST, lol! Such a wonderful experience! We didn't have reservations, but when we walked in, they let us right to the front to buy our droid-to-build. First, you walk up to pay and choose either an R2 or BB that you'd like to build. FYI - if your child is young (three years old), then they recommend building the R2 since the BB's head is delicate and can break off a lot. Then, you walk up to the conveyor belt. My son chose his droid parts on the conveyer belt and placed them into his basket. Afterwards, you take all your pieces and walk up to the building station (an attendant will help you to your station too). At your building station, you put the pieces together using the tools and "screes" they give you, and the attendant on the opposite side of your station will assist. After completing your droid, the attendant will then magically make the droid come alive and provide you with its remote control - super cool!!!! My son (and us adults minus our newborn who was asleep) had an absolute blast!

Ask the Community - Droid Depot

    Do the droids last long?

My sister has had hers a few years and hasn't complained. Every part is replaceable though if there's ever a problem. (Probably for a fee), but if there's anything wrong while still at the park, they're pretty good about trading things in. We saw… Read more

    Are the droids heavy?

no, light weight, we did purchase the lil back pack for easy carrying. Other wise they come in a cardboard carrying box, like build a bear. no bag or box our weighs 3.5 lbs .

What is the range of the droid? In other words, the distance between the remote controller and the droid?

I wanna say around 10 feet , my bb8 did well around Disneyland

Can the droid be shipped after building it to avoid carrying it around the park? Any idea about the cost to do that? Thanks.

Droid Depot will hold for no charge until park closing.
