My first lesson with Bob went really well. We scheduled 2 hours for $120, and it was well worth it. Prior to the lesson I had only driven a handful of times with my father, and frankly I didn't really know what I was doing. Let me tell you, having a real instructor like Bob makes a difference. When I first got into the car, Bob asked me to start the car and start driving. I expressed that I wasn't really sure what I was doing, and that I'd need more careful instruction. Bob could tell I was nervous, and he was able to talk me through the process of starting a car and what to look out for. Soon enough we were on the road! Here are some main points: 1. Prior to the lesson, I knew my speed control sucked. This is because I had no idea what to look out for, or what I was really doing when I make a turn. I know it might sound ridiculous, I really appreciate how Bob explained how to make proper turns to me. While turning is a simple action in of itself, I gained a lot of confidence in my driving now knowing how to execute a turn properly. The same is true for lane changes. Before my lesson, I always slowed down to make a lane change. It is a dangerous thing to do, and Bob was quick to diagnose why this was happening. He explained to me an acronym that broke down a lane change into four actions, and that I was trying to do each of these actions all at once. He then methodically asked me to practice several lane changes while incrementally working on performing each action in their proper sequence. It really helped, and I have a lot more confidence in my driving now. 2. After the first hour of practicing driving on regular roadways, we went onto the freeway. By this time, I already felt very safe and reassured by Bob. Like I said, I had already gained a lot of confidence in my driving, and I knew I could rely on Bob. I'd really like to emphasize the common theme of my lesson: before my lesson, I had no idea what I was doing - after my lesson, I had confidence in what I was doing. It turns out that most of freeway driving can be boiled down to speed control and safely changing lanes. The freeway was a piece of cake with Bob! He also showed me how to take banked and looped exits properly. That part was pretty fun. 3. After the freeway, towards the end of the lesson, we practiced parking. Again, he was very helpful and insightful in giving explanations on how to execute parking properly. To reiterate: before the lesson I didn't know really what to look for when parking - I'd just guess at when I should start turning my wheel. But with Bob, he thoroughly detailed what I should look for. Very helpful! Throughout the lesson Bob was ready with his pen, drawing explanations and pictures to illustrate his points. We had a break halfway in the lesson, where he discussed how I could improve my driving. At the end of the lesson we reviewed what I should focus on, and discussed my plans for taking the driver's test. When I first saw his reviews online, I was quite impressed. I contacted him immediately to set up an appointment, and it was really worth it. Bob is an insightful and supporting instructor. I am relieved that I don't need to contact an official driving school because some of the reviews I had seen online were strange. I think you get more than your money's worth with Bob - all of the positive reviews are true. I highly recommend him, and I hope he gets more business. read more

Bob is the most patient driving instructor I have worked with. For context, In 2025, While I was training for driving lessons, I came across Bob's profile on yelp, but I ultimately went to another driving school with an ill-tempered and impatient instructor. Though I got my license, it left me a huge fear for driving. So when I met with Bob to practice driving for my job again this year, I decided to try with Bob. the first thing I notice is that he is softly spoken, and his instructions calmed my nerve a lot. He helped me become a confident driver from a student fearing the yells of instructors. When I make mistakes, he will quickly help me correct them without making things stressful, which actually helps me learn better. He calmly instructed me to change many bad habits and taught me many tips that are tremendously helpful in the long run. I regret not learning with him when I first started! I genuinely believe anyone who is learning with him would be in good hands. No joke, if I have future friends who need to learn driving, I will be recommending him. Bob is an amazing driving instructor. Off the bat, Bob gives a great first impression in his very fast response times answering any question you may have. Having only had practice driving through friends and family, Bob gave extremely helpful pointers to help fine-tune the things I knew, and help strengthen my weak points in my driving. When it came to preparing for the test Bob made it as easy as possible; taking me on multiple runs of the course as well as alternate routes, helping me build habits in my driving that test administers are looking for, and even helping in the DMV process leading up to the test, not to mention the day of the test you meet an hour or so earlier just to get some practice beforehand. Now having passed the first try, I can't recommend Bob enough for anyone working on getting their license. Bob has the patience of a saint. He is full of positive energy, I have never felt that he got even slightly agitated or anxious when I made a mistake. I passed the test on the first try - his tips helped a lot. He gave me a list of things I should look out for(speed, headchecks, etc.) at the end of each lesson. His explanations made things to look out for easy to remember. His tutoring prepared me perfectly for the test, he took me on several possible test routes to practice - I felt fully prepared for the test, and had minimal anxiety. Bob knew the answer to any question I asked him - he really knows his stuff. I feel fully comfortable driving anywhere - I have gained a lot more skill from these lessons than just what is needed to pass the test. I passed my test yesterday at DMV Clairemont with only two minor mistakes! After my previous driving instructor said I was going to fail, I turned to Bob for a 2 hour lesson and it completely changed the way I drove. I was able to gain confidence as well as skill. He is an amazing driving instructor who has a lot of patience and puts 500% into every lesson. His knowledge of the course as well as the DMV guidelines enabled me to succeed despite a picky examiner. He also let me to rent his car on the day of the test as my mom's car needed to be repaired. He showed up early in the morning of and was there with me the entire test process. He sacrificed the morning of his birthday because my test date happened to coincide with it just so that I could succeed in getting my license. Definitely the best driving instructor!! I heard about Bob from one of my friends, and I decided to schedule a lesson with him after comparing 3 different driving instructors. He responded my messages quickly and arrived at my house on time. During the lesson, he literally practiced every details that would possibly show up on the real behind-the-wheel test with me. After each lesson, he writes out things that need to be noticed and improved when I drive. I always feel that time passes quickly when I take the lesson since he's such a nice person. Before my real driving test, he took me to testing spot and practiced, and he let me drive around the road to get familiar with the testing environment. I am very happy that I took driving lessons from Bob so here I am to tell about my experience, which was very good. Bob is very helpful, patient and a good instructor. I took my driving test just an hour ago and passed. He explains the rules very well and also gives situational advises (like what to do when certain things happen for example, if traffic lights go out or if there is an ambulance etc). The practice sessions were very helpful which I realized when I was giving the actual behind the driving test. Bob is an extremely patient and relaxed instructor. He helps build your confidence if you are just starting out driving or perhaps are even uncomfortable with certain situations. Everything about my experience with him was perfect. What is unique about Bob is that he holds a conversation on things you can work on while driving without being rude or "pushy". He has you do movements you struggle with to get comfortable in successfully accomplishing those movements. Bob also has the option to use his car for the drivers test! I have a driver's license from New York but have not driven in more than 10 years! Who drives in NY, anyway? In California, it is unavoidable that one must drive some times. I took 5 lessons from Bob and I learned a great deal from him. He is able to communicate his observations so that as the driver, you get to understand what is his thought processes on the road, traffic lights, signs, other vehicles, and pedestrians. It is a great way to learn and his approach is educational. As a student, you just have to listen carefully to what he has to say and you will get the most out of it. Bob is simply the best. I grew up in a religious community where women aren't allowed to drive, and therefore I reached the age of 28 without a driving license. I failed my first three behind the wheel tests, and was so traumatized and nervous, and thought that I'll never pass. I took two lessons with Bob before my fourth test, and passed! Bob is super professional, pleasant and calm. He gave me many tips which my previous driving instructor hasn't, and wrote them down for me. I got my driver's license on my first try. I only took 2 hours lesson with him because I already had driving background in foreign country. In those 2 hours, Bob told me all the tricks and fixed my weak spots. He guided me through the actual test route.
